Emil had two more classes after his general knowledge class was over.
The first one was Inscriptions class and the second spell mastery.
Classes were over by 12 Am. Thankfully, meals were provided to students for free otherwise the already broke ass Emil would have to pay in Merit points.
Merit points.
They were an essential part of the Royal Academy's system.
The Royal Academy had a shop from which you could purchase cultivation materials.
Emil was headed there because of three reasons.
Emil didn't have to walk long before reaching a giant building with the words (Merit Hall) written on top of it.
The inside of the hall looked more like a five star hotel's lobby rather than a school facility.
A ceiling four stories tall equipped with massive chandeliers adorned with bright orange and white crystals, clean jade tiles that would squeak everytime you stepped on them, and walls so clear and lustorus you could see your own reflection in them.
The place was packed with dozens of students. At the center of the hall was a blue half transparent tablet with texts written on it, big enough for anyone to read them from a dozen meters away.
Emil walked up to it and inspected it.
Mission Board:
D Rank: clean the school gate
Type: solo
Reward: 20 merit points
C Rank: deliver mails to the market outside the Academy.
Type:solo
Reward: 60 merit points
B: hunt four Scorching Serpents.
Type: group/solo
Reward: 150 merit points
A: clear a pack of Frenzied Wolves situated at the dark canyon.
Type: group
Rewards: 469 merit points
Emil skimmed through the missions one by one, taking in their type, difficulty and rewards.
Students' main source of merit points was from missions.
How many points you got from a mission depended on its rank. The rank of each mission indicated its difficulty. The higher the rank the more difficult the mission and the more rewards you got.
We had five ranks of missions, from highest to lowest, S, A, B, C, D.
D rank missions involved staying within academy grounds and doing chores or running errands.
They only took a few hours to complete and were a safe and quick way of earning points everyday.

C Rank missions were pretty much the same, except they took longer because they were either higher in volume or required you to travel outside the city.
Such missions usually took a day or two to complete.
B rank missions were where things got difficult.
They normally involved helping a teacher with something, or a special knowledge in a certain field, such as alchemy, forgemastery, inscriptions, etc...
Not only that, B rank was also the difficulty where hunting was introduced.
There were no protective measures outside of the academy grounds so you were on your own when going on a hunting mission.
Hunting missions involved many risks and usually took a long time, from a few days to over a week, at least as far as B rank missions were concerned.
A rank missions were technically an upgraded version of B rank missions. They either required specialties or were hunting missions, except much more difficult.
They could take anywhere between weeks to months to complete and not just anybody could do them.
Most people would find themselves giving up either because of all the time and effort it required, or because they simply didn't find it in their capabilities to complete them.
However, the rewards were definitely worth the return all things considered.
You could get anywhere between 300 to 500 merit points depending on the difficulty, which was a huge sum.
Some missions were solo, which meant only one person could do them, some missions were group missions, which meant you could only do them in a group.
There were also mixed mission that could be completed with or without a group. Either way the rewards stayed the same.
Last but not the least, we had S rank missions.
Emil frowned and shook his head when he saw the mission. It didn't make any sense.
Was it a mission or a riddle?
The rewards were appetizing, a Golden Coupon which allowed you to take any elixir you wanted from the merit shop, but Emil didn't care.
With how vague it was, spending time on it would only be a waste.
He did memorize the description though.
Maybe he got the chance to give it a try at one point.
The mission board was one of the three things he was here to check out.
next was the Merit Shop.
Emil walked up to yet another tablet stationed at the corner of the hall and clicked his badge on it.
A list of items were spread out in front of him.
Pills and Elixirs and Potions, of all kinds.
We had two types of Pills in the academy.
Enhancement type which were called Tablets, and Combat type which were called Pellets.
Emil clicked on the Enhancement type Tablet category and the list in front of him expanded.
1-Mana Enhancement Tablet
2-Mana Recovery Tablet
3-Stamina Recovery Tablet
4-Healing Tablet
5-Body Tempering Tablet
According to the description, Mana Enhancement Tablets sped up cultivation speed.
Mana Recovery Tablets, as the name suggested, recovered your mana quickly.
Stamina Recovery Tablets recovered stamina and Healing Tablets healed wounds and injuries.
Body Tempering Tablets increased your body strength.
They were the most basic, and at the same time essential pills for cultivation.
They were made for both Knights and Mages, but the price of Tablets for Mages, just like Miss Tudor said, was significantly higher than Pills for Knights.
That wasn't the only variable to the prices though.
The purity of the pills, as well as their grade also effected their price.
The pills most suitable for Emil right now we're Low Grade pills, based on his cultivation level.
Pills and Elixirs had different levels and grades of purity.
Pills were divided into six ranks, from lowest to highest were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th rank pills.
Each person could only consume pills of their corresponding rank.
Emil could only take first grade pills since he was in the Red rank. If he took second grade pills the effects would either kill him or be useless to him.
If let's say, he was in the Ornage stage and took first grade pills, he would experience barely any to no effects at all.
Each of the above six ranks were also divided into four sub-divisions of Low, Middle, High and Peak based on the strength of their effects.
For the highest effects, Magicians had to take the pills closest to their ranks.
Emil who was a First Order Knight Apprentice was better off getting a low grade pill rather than a mid grade one.
Last but not the least, pills and elixirs also had different levels of purities.
A Pill's purity represented how much of its ingredients' effects were transferred over to the pill.
The higher the purity the better the effects.
80% purity pills were considered standard, 90% was considered high grade and 100% was considered top grade.
Anything below 80% was considered defective and unsafe to consume.
Right now, the two Pills Emil needed the most were, well. Frankly speaking anything would be of use to him with the current state of his body and cultivation.
But the most useful ones would be Healing Tablets for his broken right arm and Mana Enhancement Tablets for faster cultivation, followed by Body Tempering Tablets to strengthen his noodle-like body.
