"first of all, let's start with hunting. It's an activity you'll be spending a lot of time on, specially in the school years with all the hunting missions."
Miss Grimald's sweet voice sounded out.
She'd barely started talking and she already had everyone's attention.
"You'll be hunting either alone or in groups.
Each method has its own pros and cons.
A normal hunting party usually consists of
An Assaulter, Tank, Supporter and Defender.
Assaulters are responsible for dealing damage and killing the Magical Beast. Anyone with the right kit could take this position but Fire type magicians are the most common.
a magical beast's attack are too much for normal magicians, chances are they wouldn't be able to withstand many of them.
This is where Tanks come in.
They have high a high defense and are responsible for taking aggro, busying the Magical Beast and enduring its attacks while the others finish the it. Earth is a common element for tanks.
Supporters support the team with buffs and protection, as well as ailemnts to the enemy. Water element is common in supporters as it's the most versatile.
Defenders defend the team members from the magical beast or any other threat in the vicinity.
Mages are often left defenseless when casting spells so it's their responsibility to protect them.
Most Defenders use the Air element because of its area of effect, as well as the mobility it grants.
A decent party normally has a balance of both Knights and Mages.
The above elements are what people normally use for each role, but it's completely susceptible to change based on the situation, enemy's element or physical properties, or the members' basic kits and abilities.
The reason Darkness and Light element users weren't mentioned is because of their rarity.
They're more than qualified to partake in combat and are a valuable asset to any party.
They can take any position due to the versatility of their elements, but it mostly relies on their kits and sub-elements.
Hunting in groups is a safer and more surefire way since you'll be having your teammates' support.
But you'll have to split your rewards with others so it's not quite as profitable as solo hunting."
Emil listened carefully as his teacher spoke.
Judging her character could be left for later, right now was the time to learn.
Miss Grimald wasn't giving them textbook definitions, she spoke based on experience and provided insight with her every sentence. Her words were gold and anyone who didn't listen was missing out.
"Solo hunting relies more on individual skill than anything.
This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
When solo hunting, you'll be completely on your own which makes you a more vulnerable target. You'll have to use every measure to avoid unnecessary danger otherwise losing your life would become an easy task.
Not to mention you won't be able to hunt stronger magical beasts or engage in a fight with too many of them at once.
However, all the risk does come with its benefits.
You won't need to split your reward with anybody, which generally makes each successful hunt more profitable than hunting in groups.
To hunt alone, you'll need firepower like an Assaulter, life saving measures like a Tank, quick feet like a Defender and of course, you'll have only yourself to Support you.
With all that being said, let's go over some of the most common Low-Rank Magical Beasts, the ones you'll be dealing with mostly, and go through strategies on how to fight them."
Emil's ears perked up. The part he was waiting for.
"How about..."
Miss Grimald skimmed through her tablet for a few seconds before writing a few names on the chalkboard.
"Scorching Serpents, Frenzied Wolves, Striped Hippos, Large-Winged Butterflies..."
She proceeded to write a dozen names on the board as well as some characteristics involving all of them before looking at the students.
"Today, we'll go over strategies for fighting these Magical Beasts."
...
Emil had a rough start to his day but not a rough finish.
He walked out with a lot of new information out of each class, specially the Combat Theory class. His newly gained knowledge was sure to be used when he goes hunting in the Monster Forest.
Not only that he.
He took a liking to miss Grimald. She was much nicer than his initial expectations, so much so that every Wednesday from now on was gonna be something he looked forward to.
Emil walked towards the Merit Hall with those thoughts in his mind, possibly having his first teenage crush and experiencing the spring of his youth...
He wasn't going home to sleep.
He was going to grind missions and buy some Healing Tablets instead.
His arm was almost healed. If he cultivated normally it'd take two more nights but if he used Healing Tablets he could take off his cast tomorrow.
He could just wait two more nights but he didn't want today's events with Osric to repeat themselves.
He had combat practice tomorrow and was very likely to spar with someone.
He wanted to prepare himself for that eventuality.
Thus, he forewent sleep and spent his entire afternoon grinding D rank missions and earning enough points to buy two Low-Grade Healing Tablets.
Going back to his room, he spent a couple hours sleeping before waking up to consume the pills.
"Almost..."
Emil looked at his arm after he was done using the pills.
Cultivation helped him recover much faster than he normally would've, but even one day with a broken arm was hell to him at this point.
Like usual, Emil's condition flared up at exactly 12Am and ended at 6Am.
"Huff, Huff, finally."
Emil broke his right arm's cast as soon as the pain left his body, still panting.
Moving his arms, he felt no pain from it whatsoever.
Heaving a sigh of relief, he cooled down in his bathtub before having breakfast and heading out to class.
Students had only two classes on Thursdays. For Class 1-B, it was Formations and Combat practice.
Emil's much anticipated Combat Class was here after his Formations class.
Why did he anticipate this class? Well firstly, there was no field he was more interested in than combat, so it was a given.
But the second reason was...
Two men walked in side by side.
One tall and well-built with brown eyes and hair and a friendly face.
Another short and burly, with red eyes and red spiky hair.
They contrasted each other yet strangely seemed to fit together well. it was a funny sight.
"Alright class be quiet."
The tall man clapped his hands to get the class's attention.
A few people were still talking, which elicited a reaction from the short and burly man.
"SHUT UP!"
his yell, much like Osric's, shook the entire class up.
Seeing the students' stunned faces he started laughing.
"Hahaha, that's better."
The tall man next to him shook his head before starting to speak.
"I'm Piers Nuemann, a mage and your combat teacher for the year. You can call me Mr Nuemann or even Mr Piers if you feel comfortable."
Right off the bat, Piers was giving off a friendly vibe.
The other teacher on the other hand...
"Hmph, you don't need to know my name, you'll only be referring to me as sir!
I'm gonna whip you bastards into shape this year so prepare for the worst!"
The burly man resembled Osric in many ways.
Piers placed his hand on his shoulder and gave him a look.
The burly man withstood his look for only a few seconds before caving in.
"Or, you could address me as Mr Hilith.
And don't worry, I'm not gonna whip you into shape... I'll be beating you into it!"
Piers shook his head again. He could only give up.
