Katie said she would be coming over soon. So I had to finish my food. While also getting ready for company. That’s when a slight flash of light made me squint. I then had my first truly gobsmacked moment. Which caused me to slide to the ground again, staring up.
My eyes settled on a figure standing a few feet away. Long blonde locks framed a just beautiful woman. She was about six feet tall. Her skin was tanned. It was beyond professional grade of tan. Almost looking like she never needed to sunbath again in her life. Her figure was mostly hidden by a white voluminous.…wait is that a toga? What it did show of her figure. Was enough to make supermodels feel dumpy by comparison. She had clear crystal blue eyes, that twinkled.. no there were literal motes. Pinpricks of light floating through her eyes. Her off center smirk, forced me to feel about five years old again. Almost like I had spilled my chocolate milk on the floor.
That’s when I noticed she wasn’t six foot tall, but four foot tall floating two feet off the floor. My hand reached up to cradle my throbbing face, groaning I haltingly stated. "Am I still unconscious, or are you floating?” Her smile grew a touch, with amusement in her voice she said “I’m floating. I didn’t mean to startle you, i’m just not used to speaking to mortals anymore."
That caught me offguard so i blurted out. “Wait mortals? What do you mean by mortals?” Her smirk grew a touch, as she responded. “Do you want the long version? Or the short version?” I hesitantly got back up, sliding back on to my recliner asking. “How long is the long version?” She looked towards the ceiling persing her lips humming. “Hmm about 200 years or so.” I softly giggled for some reason. “Yes, short version it is.” She smiled, as she floated around the room inspecting everything. She started explaining. “A long, long time ago. This world was filled with magic, wonders, and ofcourse gods.” Pointing to herself. She continued. “Humans learned to harness that power, creating large civilizations. Constructing huge temples to the God's."
As she turned back towards me again, she looked somehow sad. She took a deep breath, than continued. “Certain groups of humans tried to refine magic the wrong way. To focus magic in an unnatural way. Unfortunately for everyone, in ways that proved disastrous. Almost all of the original mighty civilizations, were much too dependent on magic to survive. With out high magic levels they collapsed.
Slowly magic dropped to critical levels. What humans that remained with the ability to harness magic. Were then hunted down as heratics, or witches. The talent to access magic was rare to begin with. Your own race slowly killed them off, all those that had even the smallest touch of talent. You bred the majestic power of magic out of yourselves. The remaining magic in the world, slowly seaped away over thousands of years."
She looked deeply at me as she continued. "Most of the Gods from back then either left, or had to adapt to magic deprivation. The weakest ones slipped into a kind of coma.” She sighed than continued. “We the Gods that remained, have been subtlety influencing humans. We tried to turn you all back towards magic, and the Gods. Sometimes that didn’t turn out so well."
She looked down pensivley as she continued. “So we stepped back into the shadows even more. Through the ages, there were attempts to change your destiny. But we were too weak to do much. Than the wonder that is computer games were invented. It brought humans slowly back into a better mind set. To believe that miracles could exist. That fantastical things were possible. We were no longer just stories. The right mindset can unlock hidden doors. You are the first human to properly sacrifice, and pray before your kill in ages."

I interrupted “But I know allot of people who pray. I also know those that give thanks, before they eat dinner. None of them have a God..err Goddess, is it Goddess? or God? Which do you prefer?”
She smiled saying. "I prefer Goddess Mythra, or just Mythra." I nodded forcing myself forward. “OK so how come they don’t have any Gods around them?" She smirked again, saying. "Well none of them have a direct link into their brains, accessing the inner doorway." About five seconds passed, before I said. "There is a doorway in my head?” Mythra giggled a little. “Not a literal door silly, but a metaphysical doorway. It travels down the path. It allows access to the growing magic, as it returns to normal levels."
I’m sure I could have philosophicaly discussed the pros, and cons of everything I had heard in the last few minutes. Unfortunately my brain was not up to doing so. I just kind of stared at Mythra. A Goddess …floating in my living room…telling me the ancient history of my race. As expected, my mind was just fuzzy. It couldn’t process anything going on. As luck would have it, I also had a creepy look on my face. As I stared at a half naked woman, of extreme beauty. Not my best reaction.
I realized how badly I was acting, so I tried apologizing. “I’m so sorry! This is all a bit sudden. I just don’t know how to process all the new information." Mythra smiled. “It's understandable that this would be a shock. At least your not trying to speak gibberish at me. There is allot to go over, but the main issue. Is that your going to be gaining spells. You will be using magic now." I blinked. “What?” She continued like i had not said a thing.
“You have already unlocked the healing touch ability, it will come in handy in the coming dark times." That caught my attention. So I asked. “Wait, dark times? What dark times?” I was starting to feel actually scared, for the first time in my life. I did not like hearing these words. “I am Mythra a Goddess of fertility, and healing. I am not the only God seeking followers. There are those out there right now. Who are experiencing the same magical resurgence that you are. Some Gods only care about returning magic to the entire world, so they can be treated like they feel they deserve."
I interrupted. “And you dont!” Open mouth, insert foot. She replied. “To some degree yes, but not to the extreme that others will want." She stabbed me with a look. “I have never required human sacrifice from my followers, some do."
The words chilled me to the bone. Humans like to think they are good. That they are kind. That they are without sin. Unfortunately most of recorded human history, does paint a rather bloody picture. Add in real life Gods, wanting human sacrifice. Which allows those humans to get magic powers, to hurt those they considered bad. Ideology is one thing. Give a zealot magic powers. I could see the entire world killing each other, over perceived slights very easily. Just look at the whole Trump debate. It was harsh from both sides, with each side believing they were right. Give both sides fire balls. Instant chaos... or worse necromancy…ugghh.
I looked up at Mythra. "Ya that does not sound like a good time. What can I do?” Her smile lit up her whole face. No her whole body was now radiating a faint light. “I will place upon you a blessing. You shall be one of my champions. You will need to gather a force of like minded individuals. So you can promote life, and peace. What shall I call my newest champion?” I whispered my online name of ‘Obgyn’ with just a touch of embarrassment. “….It's what?” Her face looking confused. “Obgyn” I said a bit more forcefully. The look she gave me after combined unbelief, embarrassment, with just a touch of anger. “Why would you choose that name?” I looked down slightly embarrassed “Because it’s a funny play on words.” I sheepishly responded. She sighed, mumbling. “Why do I always get the weirdos?”
