A gasp was heard, both of us looked down at Katie. She was slowly sitting up groaning, with her hand tight to her head. “What happened? If you ever give me more of whatever I drank. I will use your entrails as party decorations." I knelt down reaching out to grasp Katie’s shoulders. “Are you alive enough to not start swinging?” A small chuckle was my only response, at first. “My whole body feels like i’ve been run over by a lawn mower."
I grinned replying. “I could try fixing that… as long as you don’t freak out." A disgruntled half growl emanated from Katie, while she said. “You know when you say ‘don’t freak out’ to anyone." Katie explained while making circles with her hands. “The automatic reaction is to freak out yes?” My head bounced back, and forth, in a sideways motion. I answered. “Would you rather argue? Or maybe get fixed?” Her voice came out in a rather whining voice. “Can’t I do both?”
I smirked knowing if she could complain coherently, than she was aware enough for me to help. I mentally pushed a healing spell towards her. At first I could feel resistance. It was taking longer, than before. It was harder than the time I had healed myself. As the seconds passed i finally forced the spell to work. I saw the glow around my hands seap into Katie’s shoulders. A sudden gasp. Now I was staring into Katie’s eyes from inches away. Her face had a very satisfying look of shock. I slowly stood up holding my hand down.
“There that should help, ready to stand again?” She grasped my hand. While she wobbled up to her feet. She glared at me communicating fluently that there had been no such wobble. “OK time to answer some questions, bucko." I made a very amusing frown in her direction. “Bucko?” Her glare returned “I could use much worse language if you prefer?” I raised my hands in surrender. “No, no, no, that’s ok. But you have to be willing to listen without interrupting constantly. You will have to believe me." The scowl returned, but she nodded circling her hands at me to get on with it.
I pointed towards Mythra “She really is a Goddess, of healing and fertility. She came here to make me her champion. Now I have superpowers. You should totally be fan-girling, asking for my autograph. That sort of thing." The look on her face as I spoke …. Ohhh priceless. I wish I had a camera handy. Then as I was finishing the look changed to one of disgust. She said "Oh please like i’m supposed to believe you have magic now." I stopped doing super hero poses replying. "Umm i’m not the only one with powers. Look at the floor around Mythra, those vines came from you." Katie turned to stare at the ground in confusion.
I felt an awareness overcome me. I saw that my little icon, of my healing spell was blinking. As soon as I focused on it. A damn tool tip popped up in my vision. Ya, no way that’s not going to be annoying or anything. Especially if it happens all the time. The little tool tip box had a message in it. [After forcefully trying to use the spell ‘heal self’ in the wrong way. You have caused the spell to evolve. It is now healing touch. It now can target self, and/or another while touching them.] Huh that was easy. I turned to Mythra. “So that’s all I need to do to evolve a spell?” She looked oddly at me saying. “What do you mean?” I pointed at my face saying. “I got a tool tip saying I had evolved my spell." She clasped her hands looking at me In joy she said. “Already? Maybe I did choose well after all. If only you had a dignified name." I grimaced saying. “So all I need to do is force my spells to do what I can’t currently do with them, to evolve them?”

She wiggled her hands back, and forth, in the universal signal for sort of. She than replied. “For some spells yes, but try working on getting new spells. Before you try evolving one spell to do everything.” I spent a second thinking, than responded “How do I get new spells?” She looked up to the sky. Mouthing unheard curse words i believe. She than responded. “By praying to me. Also vanquishing evil monsters. As you get stronger, you will intuitively understand more spells. You could also gain them while in great need. But those will be few, and far between.” I started bouncing in place as I thought of something cool. “Will I be able to level up? Maybe gain Stat points?” She looked back at me quizzically saying. “Yes ofcourse you will, how else would your body get stronger. There is no quest system like in your game. Every once in a while I will send a divine message to you. It will help guide you towards appropriate danger. While also keeping you away from those too powerful to face.” I stopped doing my mini happy dance at the word danger, a thought occurred to me.
“Umm can I respawn?” She looked at me, sadly replying. “No, but if you are exceptionally powerful. By giving righteous sacrifices of evil monsters. I can intervene once, or twice, no more. Thankfully your a priest. Eventually you will learn the spell resurrection. With this spell you will be able to revive recently passed comrades. But don’t wait to long, casting it. Or it will be to late. That is why you need a group of friends. To protect you.”
My excitement had been reduced by quite a bit… wait did she say monsters? “Did you say sacrificing evil monsters? When did monsters become a thing?” Her eyes narrowed at me like I was being particularly dense at the moment. “Did we forget already? The part about there being more Gods out there? Also many other humans are having a magical awakening?” I paused for a second nodding. “Yes i’m sorry, you did mention that. That was back before you gave me power. Which caused me to near pass out. Understandable if I forgot.” Mythra looked kindly at me saying. “I must be going now. The power i’m using to manifest here is not limitless. You will not see me again very soon. Not until you are powerful enough to have an alter built devoted to me. I will send messages now, and again. But this is your life now. You must live it…or not.” With those ominous words she faded to nothing right before my eyes.
