Mithra raised her hands, an iridescent glow started to form on her hands. I will admit. I didn’t know if this was a good thing, or a bad thing. But I could not for the life of me move a muscle. The glow intensified. I could hear her saying words in a strange language. I had no idea what was said. I'm sure the language was not offered at the local Community College.
That’s when a knock from the front door was heard. All went silent. Mithra gave me a very undeserved glare, In my opinion. I wasn’t the one banging on random doors in the middle of a holy ceremony. I looked at Mithra. She looked back at me. The tension was building by the second. Than Mithra sighed, saying. “Well are you going to answer the door? It’s rude not to answer.”
I jumped up, rushing to the door. I than froze with my hand inches from the lock. I looked back, and asked. “What do I say to the person outside…about you?” Mithra just smirked, replying. “You need not worry. Only those with an open metaphysical pathway, may gaze upon me." Internally I grumbled, ‘gaze upon you. Pfftt, that sure doesn’t sound conceted, or anything. Nope, no ego here, none at all’. Than I worried she might be able to hear my thoughts. I paled a bit. I looked at her, trying to mentally push my question at her. “Can you read my mind? You freeky, floaty lady." Her only response was her fingers tapping her arm…and the glare.
Not sure if that was because she could hear my thoughts, or if she was glaring at me for delaying. Well only one way to find out. So I opened the door. To get punched lightly in the face, my nose to be exact. Katie was standing there attempting to knock on the door, but only my face was in the way. “Oh sorry my bad.” I checked to see if she had given me a bloody nose. I squeezed my fingers to the bridge of my nose. Just in case I needed to keep any blood from leaking.
While I attempted to say. “Clom inn Khat." she narrowed her eyes at me. So I moved out of the way. “Did you go, and buy one of those nasty anime hologram girls?” I turned back in confusion. “Wat are u taking aboot?" My nose really was hurting. It also made my words sound funny. I gave one last check of my fingers. Nope no blood. I released my nose. “I would never buy one of those anime girls, those things are way too expensive." With an arched eyebrow she pointed into the room saying. “Than who is that bitch?”
“Umm you can see her?” I confusedly responded. “Ofcourse I can see her, you can’t hide something so obvious. How much did she cost? Did you have to pay extra for her too be so short?” Katie entered my apartment and started to examine Mythra. “Man they really cheated you, she’s only half rendered. What is she wearing? I mean seriously, a toga? Can you get any more cringe?”
From the multitude of emotions flitting over Mythra's face. I could tell she was just as stunned by the nonstop criticism. Luckily I had one good working brain cell left. It worked overtime to realize pissing off a Goddess might not be a good idea. I rushed over to put myself inbetween them.
“Katie this isn’t a hologram she’s a Goddess.” The look of concern was not warranted in my opinion. “Wow thats so sad. I didn’t realize you were that hard up. Ya know there is online porn if you really need it? It's also a heck of allot cheaper than some make believe cartoon. We really need to get you out of this pig sty. So you can meet actual women."
About that time I think Mythra had had enough insults. Her eyes changed colors. I know people say when they get mad they see red, but i’ve never seen it from the other side. She started rising in the air, crackles of electricity forming around her. Just before she could get a word out. Katie saw this. And a whole new round of insults came out. “Aww isn't she cute? She’s all offended. I didn’t know their AI was able to react that fast. Aww did my comments hurt her ity bity fweelings."
I was not sure how the rest of the night would have gone, if Katie had not continued. But I do know now, that pissing off a Goddess is a great way to get free home improvement plans started. For example: did you know that a huge hole in the roof is really expensive to replace? Fire damage to half the walls is even more expensive, because you have to pay to have it removed. I learned allot of interesting things that night.
Mythras voice came out so loudly I felt the reverberations on my skin. Somehow I also felt them, inside my stomach. “How dare you insignificant beetle speak to me in such a way?” A cascade of energy washed off of the pint sized, floating crazy lady. Half the walls around her burst into flames, but most of it went straight up. I now had a star gazing hole in my living room, also called a huge freaking hole.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Both Katie, and I were bodily thrown across the room. As luck would have it I did a double somersault… Not by choice. Which caused me to be flung just a bit harder than Katie. So my head arrived at the wall ahead of her. I found this out when her back impacted my face. Which made it bounce against the wall…again. The shear amount of head trauma I received so far this night. It was going to be an excuse I used in the future, if I had a future.
I must have a concussion, because from my position while I could not see anything. I did hear a strange sound. It had the very naughty part of my brain, going into overdrive. Definite gasps. Not so gentle moans. A strange scream was suddenly muffled. I wiggled around as much as I could, to see what the hell was going on. I then saw strange green vines about four inches wide, and about six feet long wrapping around Mythra. They somehow came up out of the floor. They also looked to have nasty thorns covering every exposed inch. Ahh that’s when I noticed that the vines wrapped around the face, and mouth of Mythra. That’s where those stifled yells of protest were coming from. I grabbed Katie's arm, turning her towards me. Her eyes were wide open, but there was no color to them. Her eyes were solid white. Katie’s face was slack, almost serene. I shook her in a panic trying to wake her. From whatever was happening.
Katie did a sort of spasm, the color slowly returning to her eyes. They re-formed back into a normal shade of brown. She was very much still out of it. So I gently laid her head down. I looked up at the Godess who was now free from the bdsm vines. “So she wouldn't be able to gaze upon you. Nope, no need to take precautions. Now she’s in some sort of coma. Now I have to worry that her actions might have ruined our whole planet." I said in a righteous voice.
Mythra went from royaly pissed off, to just mildly perturbed in seconds. “OK so yes, maybe I could have gone invisible. Or I could have moved to the back room. In my defense. I didn't expect her to be able to see me. My powers are still very weak compared to what they used to be. Do you have any idea how much physically appearing to you right now is costing me?” I didn’t, but that didn’t change the fact, I now had a comatose woman in my room. The one with multiple holes in the floor, and ceiling. Also the walls that were on fire. “Oh crap the walls are on fire!!” Mythra looked over barely twitching an eyelash. She just waved her hand, the fires went out instantly. “Now can we please get to the champion ceremony so i can leave?” I looked back, saying. “What about Katie?” Mythra still looked a bit annoyed. “She will be fine, she just used to much mana to fast. It was probably a traumatic awakening also. Those tend to drain humans fast. Give her an hour, she will be fine."
Mythra again raised into the air with her hand glowing. She pronounced “I name ….grumble… Obgyn my newest champion." A beam of light lanced towards my head. For a timeless moment the whole world froze…or I did, it’s hard to tell. Words filtered at a blurring pace past my eyes. Settling on a standard game interface from my favorite game. It showed my health bar, also a mana bar. There was also a single icon in the lower right corner. It was a small picture, of a palm with a glowing star in the center.
The timeless moment ended. I found I was sitting down against the wall looking at my lap. I don’t like to admit it. But yes, that is definitely drool hanging down. Such a dignified day I was having. I reached up to swipe away the drool. I was trying to get my eyes to focus farther than a foot away. I felt horribad, i’ve had 3 day benders better than this feeling. A soft voice could be vaguely heard “Good you survived."
…”What? Survived? That was a possibility?” I gasped. Mythra started to come into focus. She continued. “Well anyone who accepts a part of a gods power, should expect that they may not be able to survive it." I know I should be mad, I should be raving. Maybe a bit of screaming, but remember i felt like ass. She added. “The disorientation should go away within a few minutes. Since we have those few minutes. I should explain more about your abilities. You should be able to see your health, and mana bar. Plus any awoken magic spells. All you will need to do is think about using it, it will react. Its a very user friendly system. As you use them they will become more powerful, or faster to cast, or have a longer reach. It could also combine all of those things. It all depends on how you use it. At some point it might split, or evolve into a different version. Again it all depends on how you use it."
Hearing her words I wished I could heal myself. Poof I felt better… I had healed myself. This time on purpose. I focused on my new interface. I noticed the little palm icon was dark, but getting brighter in a clockwise rotation. “Huh, it’s just like my spells in game." I mumbled. Mythra Looked at me as she said. “Yes, ofcourse it’s just like your game. That was how the power bonded to you. Rather than get the pathway unlocked. Than spend years trying to work magic. We the Gods used our powers. To connect our champions to an existing power system. This way your already experienced at using it. It will save you tons of work. You won't have to experience the suffering. Of normal mages, that have to train years for what you get in seconds."
I looked up at Mythra “So I should get all the powers that my character had in the game, as long as I grind it out yes?” She nodded “Yes maybe more. Again it all depends on how you use the magic. Your power is set on your characters powers, so those will come much easier. Those not of your character are theoretically possible, but will be much harder to use. Opposing spells take much longer to gain. Those who already had a mage type character first. They will gain offensive spells faster, and easier. But will be lacking in healing spells."
