Interdimensional or time travel was never an invention from the imperium of man, even after thousands of years of research and trial and error, it is still impossible for humans to time travel for even a second to the past or the future. But not for Minka Infinite, ever since she discovered something that has been left by her father, not for long has she already understood how time travel works and found a reliable way of doing so.
Most people who possess time travel ability have been using it for either greed or strategic war purposes but not for Minka. Just like her mother, she's not really into any of these things, at her age, the things she wants to do are more like having fun or finding nostalgic events. Compared to other girls who are into fashions, Minka prefers to wear something more traditional, and even in the Academie instead of using the standardized las gun that was distributed by the school, she prefers an old-fashioned bolt action rifle that was invented ever since the dawn of human civilization. Despite using a museum displayed weapon, she still ranks top in every test that has been done by the school and she has been deemed as the new future rising star. But Minka doesn't really care about any of those titles or the so-called bright future that's ahead of her. Instead, she poured all her efforts and energy into studying the device from her father, and in the end, she finally achieved a rather 'safe' way of time travel and finally made it work.
"Are you really leaving us?"
"Sorry, but this is my life. Good luck and please, take care of mom for me."
"But... You can't leave... we still have a family."
"Emi..." Minka hugs her little sister one last time and steps into the rift machine. Behind her is the crying voice of the person she loves the most.
In the middle of the night, a green orb suddenly appeared outside the bar of Fane Dreyer who once fought Monika, and instantly took her down after one move. Now he has moved his establishment back on the planet of Terren, but his bar is still a hub for travelers across the universe, they borrowed an interdimensional phase shifter to fool the local authorities, only those who are invited are allowed to be in the bar. That is except they are on the period for hiring.
This is exactly why Minka decided to choose this place for her destination, she needs to find a place to settle and of course earn some money to even begin her adventure at a different time. The reason she could not use her credits is that she technically hasn't even been born yet thus it shows no record on the bank or in any system of the Imperium. And the cash credit from her time is unrecognizable because of the past recessions and the renewal of currency on this planet. The first thing she noticed is the change in the air, it smelled different, not in a good way. She looked around, this world is very similar to hers, and yet she did notice a few differences, but out of her hunch she still prefers to act carefully. Minka frowned a bit and then steps into the bar.
"Can I see your manager please?" Minka asks politely to the receptionist of the bar.
"What's the reason?" The receptionist asks. When she saw this light brown wavy-haired girl step into the bar, she thought this was another girl who's invited to the party for the rich guy on the second floor.
"I saw a job application from the poster on the wall, it says that you need a new bartender for the alcohol stand. It also says that you will also provide a place of living if the applicant deems it to be spectacular." Minka smiles, her limed-colored eyes look like two crooked moons. It makes her look pretty but also gives out a bit of a swagger.
"That's right, but you see, you need to be deemed as spectacular." The receptionist emphasized the words spectacularly: " Can I see a CV or something like that? Or did you have any previous experience of the same type of line of work?" The receptionist looked at Minka in a curious way.
Minka doesn't really say more, she grabs the glass of water on the table and starts moving around it on her arm and shoulder, even when the glass is facing down the liquid is still not pouring out. Eventually, the receptionist is amazed by the moves from Minka.
"Are you a psyker?" Because this is the only explanation of the water in the glass wasn't falling off even though the glass was upside down.
"Yea, but hey, try this out." She hands over a simple mix of hard liquor and fruit juice, when the receptionist tried it, her expression changed because of how good it tasted. When she looks at Minka again, Minka's smile is like the warm sunshine in the middle of winter, it brings warmth to others.
"I guess you'll pass even without the boss interviewing you, but you do need to change your clothes. This isn't 120 years ago." The receptionist points at Minka's clothes.
"Fine…" This caused Minka to feel a bit uncomfortable because she likes what she's wearing but guess you're gonna sacrifice a bit of your identity if you want to earn those credits.
"By the way, what's your name?" The receptionist asks while holding a pen.
"Minka Springfield. Spring as the season and field as the battlefield." Minka is a chronic liar as well, apparently, this is not the first time she's using this fake name.
"Nice name, your dorm room is 106, you can start tomorrow. Glad to have you onboard." The receptionist then hands over a key to Minka.
At night, Ria and Elaria decide to get themselves hammered at the local bar, and it just happens to be the bar Minka is working in. The reason they chose this bar isn't really because of the quality of the cocktail, it's just simply because the owner of the bar doesn't really care about earning so much money, so the price of the alcohol is lower than most of the bars in this city.
The reason Ria and Elaria are now working together is that due to the injury from Nova, Elaria has been assigned to the regiment to Ria for both combat missions and off combat training.
"What can I get for you both officers?" Minka politely asks.
"Just the cheapest mix you can do, we are here to get hammered not to taste the cocktail," Elaria replied with an annoyed tone.
"Coming right up." Minka ignored the bad attitude from Elaria, she just wanted to get those credits not here to enjoy her work.
A few minutes later, Minka puts two glasses of 'fire water' on the counter. Elaria and Ria are both amazed by the taste of the cheap cocktail: "These tastes surprisingly good. How did you make it?"
Minka replied while preparing other orders: " Just some simple high degree alcohol with a bit of lime juice. But I'm glad that you liked it."
"Are you a professional mixologist or something like that?" Ria asks.
"No, I'm just a traveler who needs to earn some money," Minka answered without making eye contact because she still has other orders to deal with.
After a few more drinks, Ria is getting tipsy while Elaria is in perfectly fine shape, probably because of the regenerative ability that's helping her to break down the alcohol in her body.
"Do I… know you somewhere?" Ria asks Minka while squinting her eyes.
"Eh… I'm not sure about that officer… I come from a small village, and I don't have any friends here..." Minka pretends to look sad and shy. Just like her father she's also a natural liar and deceiver.
"Do you know anyone called: Monika Terra? Yea, now I kinda remember it now." Ria sips another drink: "But your expression doesn't really fit with her. It's more like someone I hate."
"Alright…?" Minka knows exactly what Ria is talking about, but now it's always good to not draw any attention. She quickly wraps up her work and goes to the kitchen for both avoid further contact and also find work to do.
Then Elaria and Ria proceed to leave the bar and gone to somewhere else. After serving a few dozens of drinks more, Minka finished her shift and proceeded to go back to her dorm. With her currency calculation, she still needs to work a few more months to get enough money to get a decent establishment, maybe it is time to consider also a daytime job as well.
Minka buries her face in the pillow after taking a bath. She's exhausted from work, apparently, she tries a bit too hard while working. But this is her personality, either she doesn't do anything or makes sure everything is perfect, even if it's the smallest detail of the tasks.
The second day, Minka travels to the other side of the Lokar and finds a job in a coffee shop, this is the only place where the owner doesn't really give a damn about the identification documents. The reason the owner took in Minka is simply because of Minika's refined look and of course her charming smile. Other than that, Minka also agreed to get reduced pay at the moment.
'Compromise' is one of the lessons she learned when she was a kid. Minka was not the only child, she also has a small sister who's seemingly more serious and mature than her even Minka is the older one. But Minka was kind to her sister, even while eating Minka would rather give the bigger share to her little sister despite even being hungrier than her.
In the afternoon, Minka is collecting the used cup from the table and suddenly she hears some voice she's familiar with. This kind of startled her a bit because there are only a few people that she knows around this time.
Monika pulls Trazyn into the coffee shop with a big bright smile. Because this coffee shop has introduced some new types of rose cake which Monika desperately wants to try out, but Trazyn on the other hand cannot stand the smell of the rose cake because the amount of sugar they add in there is just unbearable for him. Also, after reading the ingredient list, he has deemed that this thing is somewhat toxic towards the human body.
"Welcome...Mo… I mean lovely couples!" Minka is blushing badly, she couldn't really hide the excitement of seeing Monika and Trazyn. They are the reason that she's here, but she can't just go there and introduce herself as their daughter from another timeline.
"Yea, aren't we lovely?" Trazyn pulls Monika closer because he doesn't want Monika to lay her eyes on the menu. He knows that Monika will order a table if she sees it.
Minka giggles, but soon she hears the manager start coughing behind her back. In an instant, Minka drops the used cups in the kitchen and rushes towards Monika and Trazyn's table: "So, what can I get for you two?!" Minka's voice sounds a pitch higher than her usual self, this makes her voice sound a bit different than how she looks. At least this is how others think about her.
"Are you alright?" Monika looks at this strange waitress who sounds weird and acts also weird.
"Yea! I mean… sorry if I sounded a bit excited, something important happened to me earlier." Minka adjusts her voice and tries her best to present a straight face.
"Good for you… So, I would love the whole list on the menu." Monika points her finger at the menu where the new rose cakes are.
Minka and Trazyn made eye contact but surprisingly both of them took it fairly easy instead of overreacting. While Minka is telling the kitchen about the order, Trazyn noticed something weird from Minka.
"Honey, do you think you've seen that waitress from somewhere?" Trazyn asks.
The only thing that's on Monika's mind is all of those rose cakes she can get: "Hm? I don't think so. Should I?"
"I think I've seen her somewhere. But I'm not sure about where it was exactly though." Trazyn turns his head at Minka, but Minka hides her head behind the counter.
"You've been alive for millions of years; I think you've definitely seen someone like her before. Besides, we are here to eat the rose cakes!" Monika is hyped.
Trazyn just shakes his head, maybe Monika is right. But Trazyn is not someone who easily forgets things. However, right now, he's more focused on making sure his girlfriend doesn't pass out because of the amount of rose cake she's going to eat.
After 40 mins of rose cake eating marathon, Monika finally couldn't eat more. She rests her head on the table and starts snorting lightly like a big red cat in the afternoon.
Trazyn sees this chance and calls Minka at their table: " What can I get you, handsome?" Minka winks.
"Have we met somewhere before?" Trazyn asks Minka with a serious tone.
"I don't think so... I think you are making a mistake..." Unlike while facing Ria and Elaria, Minka seemingly lost all her ability to lie.
"You sound like you are threatening me or something, also I can tell that you're lying, if I were you, I would tell me the truth right now. Instead of letting my lovely companion ask you the same question." Trazyn's eyes are undeniably also threatening.
Seeing Monika is half in a coma due to sugar overtake, she let out a sigh and looks at Trazyn in a sorrowful and yet comforting way: "Well… you and I are related… like...related."
"Are you saying you are like an offspring of mine or something? By this logic, let me guess, you somehow acquired the Necron time travel device and made it work. Then you use it to travel to the past for… working in a coffee shop?" Trazyn is a bit disappointed: "But do you also know that you cannot actually come from a timeline that you existed?"
"No!... I mean... meeting you and mom in this coffee shop was just a small coincidence… For your second question, I realized it when I arrived here. But this time-traveling thing is personal." Minka lowers her head but still remains in eye contact with Trazyn.
Suddenly Monika grabs Trazyn's hand: "Traz… I feel so sleepy…can you please take me home and…." She then yawns and puts her legs on Trazyn's lap and wraps her arm around his shoulder then proceeds to fall asleep again.
"As you can see, I need to deal with this beautiful creature. But from time to time if you wanna talk. Just give me a ping." Trazyn gives Minka a small pendant and pads her shoulder. It is good to know that whoever you are with at the end will have a result together.
Minka nods and collected the fees from the food, internally Minka's happiness is inexpressible, she was just holding the pendant until the owner of the shop shouts at her. She quickly finishes her coffee shop work and prepares for her night job.
When Trazyn gets into Monika's house he releases Monika on his back and tugs her into the blanket. This is the first time Trazyn has visited Monika's house ever since he got back. It is not the cleanest room in the world, but it surely is somewhat tidy. While looking around randomly, he encountered a small diary on Monika's desk. It doesn't really seem new, which means that Monika has been having it for a while now.
He checks Monika in the other room, she's sleeping with a smile on her face like a child. Trazyn then slowly closes Monika's room door and starts opening the diary. Just as he starts reading the first line, he suddenly feels a breeze of cold wind blowing behind him.
He slowly closes the diary and turns back. But it wasn't Monika but Nova who suddenly appeared in this room: "So, now you are trying to peek into my sister's diary without even asking?" Nova sits on the sofa at the back while crossing both her arms and legs.
"Ah, Major Nova. It's been a pleasure meeting you. How's your wound?" Instead of being shocked, Trazyn quickly changed into a smiling face: "What can I do for you on this nice, beautiful day?" Suddenly a flash of lightning strikes across the sky and outside starts raining.
"It's lieutenant colonel Nova." She's still not on good terms with Trazyn, even though Trazyn technically saved her life and he's also the boyfriend of her sister: "Actually, the reason I'm here is that there's something I want."
"Oh?" Trazyn suddenly became interested. He thought Nova was here to have one of those 'how much she hates Trazyn' conversations. He's glad that he's wrong.
Nova suddenly drops her act and leans her body forward: "I want to know everything about the demons of old and their location." Nova's eyes are full of anger and cruelty.
Trazyn sort of guessed what Nova wanted even before they started the conversation: "How about instead of every demon, I give you the person who's responsible for the whole incident?"
"Why? You are friends with the other demons?" Nova's primary job right now is to cleanse the daemons from hell. But for her, daemons and demons are the same things. They are all enemies of imperium and the people that harmed her family.
"If you meant it in a bad way…. Then you can take it as a way to protect some former friend of interest." Trazyn is choosing his words very carefully now. He doesn't want to piss off Nova but also avoids letting her get the information she wants: "Beelzebub. She's the person you are looking for. And there's another demon called Justice, but I already killed her because she harmed Monika."
"This...Beelzebub… where is it?" Nova refuses to refer to any of the demons in human terms, especially after all of this. Nova's voice is shaking, there's too much anger in her, anyone who dares up against Nova will be utterly annihilated.
"In the abyss, she was banished by Lucifer a long time ago for treason. But somehow, she's now roaming free while working with the old subordinate of Lucifer. If I am going to know where she's hiding, then I will need to ask for help from Lucifer." Trazyn said it without his sassy tone.
"Fine!" Nova stands up from the sofa while stomping the floor. The shake is so hard that the glass on the table just rolled off from the table, but Trazyn managed to catch it before it smashed on the ground. It is one of the favorite cups that belongs to Monika.
Trazyn examines the glass cup, and he suddenly feels something bad is going to happen. Something so bad that it would tear his world apart. Before he pays the visit to the ruler of hell. He needs to talk to someone, someone that's from another timeline. Because he refuses to believe that a time traveler would encounter him without a proper reason.
The second day while Minka is trying to enter the coffee shop for work, Trazyn calls her and signals her to talk in the back valley: "What's up?" Minka asks while smiling sweetly.
"For real this time, why are you here? I don't believe that you would come after going through all of those troubles and just decide to settle in a coffee shop." Trazyn drops his sassy act and starts talking in a serious tone.
"Well…. I also have a night job." Minka dodges the question.
Seeing this, Trazyn takes out the credit card which belongs to Monika: "If you tell me everything you know about the incoming event, I'll give you this. With this, you don't have to work a day for the next ten years."
"Gladly!" Minka is just like her father: "The reason I am here is that I want to change something that happened around this period. I am here to prevent you from taking away mom's power."
"The power of crimson daemon?" Trazyn failed to understand the reason, he needed to take it away due to the debt he owed to Orikan.
"Yes, but I can't really tell you more, or otherwise it would affect the way you approach things. The only thing I can tell you is that do not take away mom's power and everything will be fine." Minka is already thinking about all the things she can get with her mom's credit card. The first thing she's gonna get is one of those ultra-sweetened rose cakes.
"You gonna tell me about your name?" Trazyn crosses his arm.
"Ah, my bad. The name is Minka Infinite." Suddenly an old-fashioned 'Springfield' infantry rifle appears in her hand, and she salutes Trazyn with a perfect imperial soldier gesture.
"So, you are a soldier." Trazyn kind of expected that.
"Yea… I fell in with my mother's step... She was a bit disappointed when I graduated from the Academie…" Minka is on to something.
"What's wrong between you and Monika?" Trazyn and Minka proceed to move to a park bench.
"We didn't really get along after she knew that I joined the military without even asking her… I wanted it to be a surprise but apparently, she didn't want me to join in the first place." Minka sounds a bit depressed, apparently the details might not be so pretty.
"Is that why you decided to go to the past or a timeline that's in the past of yours?" Trazyn asks.
"No, it's what came afterward. But I can't tell you, because it might change the time continuity and some details in the timeline. But just as I said, keep mom's power and all will be good." Minka said all of that in a serious tone. But then she puts her arms up and does a relief stretch: "It was nice to talk to you anyways. Now we are going to do some shopping!" Minka is happy that she doesn't have to work anymore.
"Who said that I would even come with you?" Trazyn said coldly.
Minka's cheek suddenly turns red, and she starts to stare while pouting at Trazyn in a pissed-off way. Which happened to Monika when Trazyn refused her request to buy a box of overpriced custom-made rose cakes. Seeing this, Trazyn just shakes his head and lets out a long sigh: "Well, you got me there… let's go."
While they were walking towards the shopping mall Trazyn noticed that Minka knows the place exceptionally well. It is as if she's born and raised in this place: "Have you been to Lokar?" Trazyn asks.
"Yea, the layout didn't really change so much over the decades, I guess even it's from a different world the designer for the city layout is still the same. Mom didn't really take me here very often, but my aunt did." Minka's eyes are just as if not even more beautiful than her mother's.
"Nova? She's the type of person who would take you out?" knowing Nova, she's definitely not the one that has fun.
"Hey, auntie Nova isn't a bad person at all, she's just a bit defensive about her own family members. That's all. Besides, I'm talking about auntie Erin, she and aunt Noel are the best couple I know." Minka said while fixing her eyes on the nice stores on the way.
Trazyn doesn't know anything about Erin yet: "Who is this Erin you are talking about?"
"Wait... you haven't met her yet?... Ops... spoiler alert." Minka suddenly looks a bit embarrassed.
"This won't mess with time continuity at all?" Trazyn asks.
"Na, it's fine because it's so minor. Ha..ha…" Minka leaves out a bit of a faint smile.
Trazyn noticed the similar traits Minka has to Monika but physically speaking, Minka is more physically... Mature. While Monika is athletic looking and has a bodyline that almost makes her look like a piece of art, Minka is radiating more energy, while her form is also great also apparently whoever made her decide to add a bit more color during the design.
Then they arrived at the shopping mall. Minka cannot stop looking at all of those items in the showcase, she's like a little kid whose dad is taking her to the toy store. After a few hours of the shopping spree, they finally leave the store.
Suddenly, Trazyn drops the bags on the floor and looks nervous and shocked, the person he sees is no other than Monika Terra herself. She crosses her arm and leans on a wall. Her eyes are staring daggers at Trazyn.
"Hey...hon.." Trazyn feels the stare from Monika, every second is like an eternity. While Minka is hugging Trazyn's arm like nothing is happening: "Why are you here?"
"My credit card company called me and said, there's a group of unusual purchases that happened this afternoon. So, I'm here to find out the source." Monika's expression didn't change while talking. Her face doesn't really show any emotion at all. That's what Trazyn scares the most: "Who's this?" Monika doesn't want to guess; she prefers to let Trazyn tell her the truth.
Minka gives out a bright smile and reaches out her right hand in front of Monika: "Hi! My name is Minka! Nice to meet you! Trazyn has been taking care of me very well. So, you don't have to worry about anything!"
Monika didn't shake hands, she scanned Minka with her eyes, she can tell this is the girl from the coffee shop, not only from the similar look between her and Minka but also the reason of back then she was looking at her chest more because Monika was a bit jealous about the cup size of Minka's. She then looked at Trazyn who's hiding behind Minka's back, she already got her own concluding going: "Oh? Glad that Trazyn has been taking care of you very well. Funny that he hasn't taken me to do some shopping for ages." Monika smiles a bit. But it's not anything related to happy emotions. It is something worse.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
"I can explain this hon, this is a huge misunderstanding." Trazyn holds Monika by her shoulder.
Monika just shakes Trazyn off and walks off back home. Trazyn stares at Minka: "If this makes me lose her or anything like that. I will make sure that you will die painfully." Trazyn is angry about what Minka did to escalate the situation.
Minka suddenly activates her crimson daemon ability and puts away all of the things that she bought and looks at Trazyn seriously. Trazyn is shocked, he did not know that Minka also has the ability of the crimson daemon: "Dad, trust me. You will not lose mom, she's angry now but you will fix it at the end of the day."
"How can, you be sure?" Trazyn's tone turned from anger to confusion.
"Because in many ways… I am here. Also, mom told me a similar story when I asked about the past, except that it was just a student from dad instead of me." Minka winks: "Well, we all had a long day, hope to see you more in the future though… of course after you fix your relationship with mom."
Trazyn then is off to chase Monika while Minka looks at the sky and suddenly teleports away when no one is looking.
"Wait!" Trazyn shouts at Monika while she's angry walking. Her slender figure while angrily walking looks still as beautiful as it gets. Then he grabs Monika's hand and looks at her in the eyes: "Please, just let me explain what just happened."
Monika chuckles and continues walking after slipping her hand away from Trazyn's grasp. Trazyn then proceeds to stop Monika from the front: "Please, this is all a huge misunderstanding."
"Are you gonna explain it or keep repeating the same thing over and over again?" Monika finally stopped walking.
"That girl, Minka, is... How do I put it...special, whatever, it is hard to explain. I did it because I needed information from her." Trazyn butchered the chance that he would be able to explain himself.
"Oh? She's special? Then why don't you go and chase her instead? Why would you care about a common stranger like me? Do you know what's funny? You were using my card to buy all of those things from her while you barely even took me out on anything. I had to push you out to get you to come with me to do things together!" A bit of teardrop comes out of Monika's eye. She then proceeded to walk away. Monika hates people who are disloyal and lie to her. She's more pissed because that girl looks almost familiar to herself and linking to what Trazyn did, Monika already has her own explanation.
Trazyn then holds Monika by the arm and spins her towards him: "You might not believe this, but that was our…. Daughter."
Monika's face has some visible change of expression: "What more ridiculous excuses are you going to bring? Just admit that you like someone else now and so we can get over this." In Monika's story, the period that Trazyn was gone is because he was with Minka for the past whole year.
"I am not lying! Why in the world would I ever leave you for someone else? You are making me look like a monster!" Trazyn chuckles while holding Monika firmly, he doesn't want her to leave anymore.
The reason Monika is reacting like this is that she was having a bad day at work and suddenly, she finds out that her love might be cheating on her. But Trazyn's explanation did work as well. Instead of being angry, she's more confused than before: "So… this girl. You said she's, our daughter?" Monika couldn't really believe the words she had just said. Not because she never thought about getting one with Trazyn, it's more because of the biological difference. Sure, Trazyn might have created a human body, but it never seemed like it was remotely able to achieve giving birth to another life.
"Yes ! You finally believe me; I was so scared that you would get mad at me and…" Trazyn suddenly paused his talk.
"And what? Dump you?" Monika smiles in relief. She thought she's the one getting dumped but it doesn't harm to toy with Trazyn more a bit: "I almost did unless you are going to take me out to do some shopping!" Monika hugs Trazyn tightly.
"Of course…. Anything you want." Trazyn hugs her back tightly as well. Today's events are like a rollercoaster for him.
"I want the custom-made rose cake you chickened out last time," Monika said
"Of course, anything you want." Trazyn nods.
"I also want the limited-edition ones that are only for royalties." Monika is still making her list of demands.
"That… would cost almost a few hundred thousand of credits..." Trazyn has some credits, but it was from years ago when he was bargaining with the local human.
"I want it!" Monika said it loudly while making her face look exactly like Minka when Trazyn refused her shopping request.
Trazyn shakes his head, he chuckles a bit because of how funny his life is. In his millions of years of unending life, he for the first time feels: fulfilled. Which is the feeling he's been looking for ever since he collected the first item for his gallery.
"Hey, Traz." Monika whispers lightly.
"Yes?" Trazyn replies lightly as well.
"I want to meet her."
"Does this mean you forgive me?"
"Do you think of me as a person with little to no trust in others?" Monika smirks: " Of course, I did! But maybe next time you should chase me faster. I was just walking...and it took you like a good minute to chase me...You should really focus on your physical body instead of teleporting around."
"I love you."
"I love you too." Then they shared a deep kiss. Just as Minka said, Trazyn didn't lose Monika, and on the contrary, their relationship is stronger than ever.
On the next day, Monika, Trazyn, and Minka are finally going to meet up with each other. But on the way to where Minka lives, Monika is constantly looking at her back. She felt like something was following her. But every time when she had the hunches, it was just nothing. Not even a piece of leaves or a random animal crossing the street. As a veteran, she decides to trust her instinct but on the other hand, she wants to meet up with Minka.
Minka is sitting across from the couple while having a big bright smile on her face. This is what she's wanted for a really long time. But Monika's face does not show any expression that's remotely related to happiness. She had that feeling again and it is seemingly very close to her.
"Honey, this is Minka. She's our daughter from another timeline." Trazyn introduces Minka.
Monika tilts her head sideways and looks at Minka from up and down. Suddenly, she chuckles coldly: "How long are you going to keep up the lies?" Apparently, Monika doesn't believe it at all.
"What do you mean?" Trazyn is a bit confused about Monika's response, this is the first time she has talked like this, or at least to Trazyn.
"You actually think I would buy your bull crap? A daughter from another timeline? Do you really think I'm a child?" Monika just shakes her head; it is a mix of both anger and ridiculousness.
"After all we've been through, this is the thing you worried about." But Monika's unconvinced gaze made Trazyn look away.
Just Trazyn about to say more, Minka sighs at him to stop. Instead, she's going to talk to Monika: "I'm sorry if Trazyn is being a bit rushed about my identity. Let me introduce myself again. My name is M-" Suddenly Monika slams her hand on the table.
"I don't care. Why don't you tell me, who is the one that came on the other first?" Monika still thinks that Trazyn is cheating on her with Minka. When Monika is pissed, she will most likely resort to violence.
Seeing this, Minka realizes that Monika can't be convinced at this point. She let out a long sigh and changed her strategy: "It was me who came on Trazyn, the night we spent with each other was beautiful. We had a few drinks, and we started to ki-" Suddenly Monika swung her sword and split the table in half.
Trazyn however just has a shocked expression. He did not expect that instead of calming Monika down, Minka would try to provoke her: "Minka, I think you are making a mistake."
"Trust me, let's just get this over with." Minka shows no fear on her face, even when she is facing the crimson reaper herself, a military legend who single-handedly cleanses half of the planet from the chaos threat.
"Leave, before I change my mind." Monika is staring at Minka as if Minka took her life away. Anyone who would even face Monika under these circumstances is already being sentenced to death.
"You can't stop true love!" Minka said it loudly. And suddenly a sword flies past Minka's cheek, some of her hair has been cut off by Monika.
Monika points her sword at Minka, it is the sign that Monika is declaring a duel with Minka. Trazyn is just sitting down on the chair again while facepalming. This is terrible. How did he let this situation escalate like this? He asks himself.
Minka replied with a nod and suddenly a lance appeared in her hand, Monika was surprised that there's someone else possessing the ability of crimson daemon. Monika then dashes as fast as lightning and disappears from plain sight. This is her signature move, due to the combination of her clocking device and the natural agility Monika possesses.
Minka on the other hand didn't really respond with a similar strategy, instead, she stabs her lance on the ground and holds it with both of her hands. Suddenly, out of thin air, Monika dashed towards Minka, but her lance projected out a barrier around her and deflected Monika's move.
"I do not intend to fight you," Minka said with a serious tone.
"Then, leave." Monika decloaks herself while holding her sword.
"That, I will not do. But I do hope we can resolve this matter peacefully." Minka is still channeling her protective barrier.
"You mess with my man, now you will pay for that." Monika never showed this part of herself. She might be a cute and kind-hearted person most of the time, but she's not pretty when people are getting on her nerves.
Minka regrets her decision about provoking Monika. But the deed is already done, she has to fight and somehow defeat Monika.
In Monika's head, she's not really doing all of this because of jealousy. Hell, it is one of her childhood dreams to meet her future daughter. The reason she's been acting like a jealous vengeance psycho girlfriend is that she sensed they are being watched right now. The feeling started the moment she saw Minka. Her instinct and years of training tell her that she cannot talk to Minka unless she's sure that it's absolutely safe.
Both of them didn't use hot weapons or any explosives. It is just sparring between two capable fighters. After almost half an hour of constant conflict between the blade and the lance, they finally drop their weapons due to tiredness.
Minka sits on the ground while wiping sweat away with her sleeve: "Are we continuing fighting or are you ready to talk." She's a bit mad because she spent all of those efforts to come to meet Monika. Yet the only thing responding is with shouting and force. She's not a weak person, but when your mother hates you to the guts in front of your father it surely isn't something easy to process.
"You. Piss. Off." Monika's voice is full of anger and hatred.
Hearing this, Minka just retrieves her weapon and starts running away while weeping. Trazyn looks in that direction and has an 'unbelievable' expression when he turns to Monika: "Are you happy now?" He shakes his head in disappointment.
But out of all of this, the person who's harmed the most is Monika. Her heart is actually bleeding but this is the only thing she can think of in this situation. She needs to protect Minka from the unknown threat that she has no idea about.
"What do you want now? You just hurt the person you actually should care about the most in this world." Trazyn doesn't sound mad or anything like that. He's more shocked that Monika would even say something like this in front of him.
Monika didn't reply to Trazyn, she just ran off towards where Minka went. It didn't really take that long until Monika found Minka in an alley near the garbage can. She's sitting on the ground while hugging her legs and burying her head in her skirt. She's sobbing silently and her body is shaking.
Monika slowly approaches Minka and sits on the ground beside her. She's doing this because the feeling that she's being watched is gone: "Hey…" Monika said it in a light sorrow tone while slowly putting her hand on Minka's shoulder. She could feel the shaking of Minka's body, every shake is like a dagger stabbing on her heart. Monika is never a mean person. It is going to be hard when Monika needs to explain that her action is to protect Minka while actually, it hurts her badly.
"Go away!" Minka suddenly released a burst of the psychic blast, it suddenly pushed Monika to the ground.
Monika's heart almost stopped shaking because she's afraid that it might attract the watchers again. But it didn't. Monika moves next to Minka again: "I am so sorry for hurting you…. It was never intentional… I said all of those horrible things because I thought it wasn't safe." Looking closely, Monika can tell the resemblance between her and this girl. She can even tell some details that make her look a bit like Trazyn, well the body that contains Trazyn's mind, for example, the eye color is more yellowish rather than the emerald, green that Monika has.
Minka didn't reply to it, she's just sobbing. She glanced at Monika for a second, she's still very mad at Monika. She suddenly stands up and starts running away again. At this moment, Minka doesn't want to see or hear anything from Monika.
Seeing Minka run away again, Monika duck sits on the ground, she feels strengthless and sad. Just when she stands up again, she suddenly hears something flying towards her. She managed to dodge the first unknown attack with her reflex, but suddenly a second attack pierced her shoulder and started pulling her down into the deeper side of the alley.
Monika tries to break the chain that's pulling her, but it was no use. She then got hit on the gut by the person at the end of the hook. "Phyrexian!" Monika instantly recognized the half flesh, half mechanical body structure. The attack is hard and fast from the phyrexian, despite her attack being limited Monika still managed to fight off the intruder.
Suddenly, the phyrexian released a surge of intense electric shock on the chain, and Monika was paralyzed. She's still trying to dash away even though it means to rip off one of her arms, but her legs just won't respond to her anymore. Just when the phyrexian picks up Monika and starts heading towards the sewer, three gunshots are fired from the entrance of the alley, and Monika gets dropped on the ground.
Monika turns her head while her body is unable to move, she sees Minka in her shooting stance with a glowing yellow right eye.
The shot hit the phyrexian hard, but it was not enough to kill it. Phyrexian starts charging towards Minka, but she does not flinch, she shoots the phyrexian on its knees then the phyrexian collapses unable to move.
"Disgusting." She then points her gun in front of the forehead of the phyrexian and pulls the trigger.
Then comes the awkward silence between these two. Monika is lying on the ground unable to move and she still has that hook on her shoulder, it is not particularly lethal, but its sure hurts like hell. while on the other hand, Minka is just standing there looking at Monika with a mad expression: "I'm thinking whether I should remove the hook or step on you instead." Minka still has a bit of a tear on the edge of her eyes.
"It is no way to talk to your mother like this," Monika said while she's trying to move her arm so she can lift herself up.
Minka chuckles and starts removing the chained hook-on Monika's shoulder. After some basic bandaging, Monika can finally stand up from the ground, then Minka hugs Monika tightly, while Monika is enduring the pain, but she still hugs back Minka as tightly as well.
"I'm sorry for saying all of those bad things towards you…" Monika apologies.
"It's fine... I read your mind anyway, so I decided to play along. But I want the custom-made rose cake you let dad buy, for my on-point stage fee."
"Maybe we can share it instead…" Monika also wants to try it, it is not easy to get one: "Also, it is rude to read people's minds without permission."
"Fine!" Minka releases Monika and grabs her hand. Then they started to walk back to where Trazyn was.
Unsurprisingly, Trazyn is just sitting on the bench and reading a book. Then he noticed that Minka and Monika were walking towards him together while holding hands: "Well, well, well. What happened between you two?" Trazyn can also finally see how similar these twos are when they are standing together and having the same happy expression.
"Doesn't matter! We will tell you until you give us the custom-made rose cake!" Minka has her smile again.
For the next few days, they have been hanging out alongside each other. It didn't take long for them to really bond, as they are family, in a way. Not now but at some point, in the future. They have been doing stuff together for various occasions and including today: "Checkmate." Again, Trazyn has won the chess match against the team of both Monika and Minka.
"This is boring…" Monika rolls up her eyes and lays back on the couch. The reason she's doing it is that they are in Nova's waiting room and there's really not a lot of things to do besides playing chess.
"Emm..." Minka is thinking about a strategy to beat Trazyn: "Maybe I should lose my bishop to save my pawn?" Minka blinks in innocence.
"You know, I can't tell if you are playing dumb or actually dumb." Trazyn is tired of winning. He's more annoyed about what is taking Nova so long to come out.
"Rude!" Minka crosses her arm. But while they are arguing, the door suddenly opens, and Nova walks out with her usual resting emotionless face.
"Hey, lieutenant colonel!" Trazyn still isn't comfortable enough to call Nova by her name.
"Save your banters, I'm not in a mood to chitchat." Nova gives a cold glance to Trazyn. Then she turns to Monika who's on the couch while holding a piece of fille: " What you've got for me today?"
"We found where Noel is, but before I handed in, you need to promise me something." Monika suddenly stands up and looks Nova in the eyes: "Please, do not harm Noel. She didn't know what she was doing."
Nova shakes her head disappointed and lets out a short sigh: "Of course I will not harm her. She's wanted by the Vermillion family. I can't really do much unless I get their approval." Probably this is the one thing that's good about Nova. She will always put mission before any of her emotions.
Nova then noticed Minka who's apparently a bit mad about what Trazyn said to her a few seconds ago: "Who is this new girl?" Nova asks Monika.
Monika can tell that her sister doesn't really have any opinion about Minka. Guess it's for the best. She then introduces Minka as her friend instead of her daughter. It might seem weird because physically speaking Minka does look more developed than Monika. Even they are about the same age in this period. And at the end of the day as long as Minka doesn't mind it is all good.
Nova then takes the file away and goes back to the office. The first thing she does isn't read it but have a bit of rest while she can. She just got a call from no one else but Leonard Terra. He needs Nova to do something for him and apparently, it isn't easy. Nova also wants to resolve the Noel issue as soon as possible, but she can't afford to anger her own brother. Nova was always right, without her there wouldn't be a Terra family.
Every time when Nova is frustrated, she always opens up her drawer, there's a photograph in there. A photograph when it was taken before all of the bad things happened in her life. It is a photo of her family with her parents, Monika and Leonard. It was after a picnic trip on the outskirts of the capital city. There used to be a small garden there but now it has been replaced by a bus center.
For many times Nova has proven to be not the perfect soldier as she seemed as, for example when she's alone with Maverick, she becomes all soft and kind. With her sister, however, it is more complicated than that. Before Trazyn appeared in her life, she and Monika were in constant teasing relationships with each other. Or more like Nova constantly teasing Monika but Monika always takes it as an insult. Then comes Leonard, Nova doesn't want to have anything to do with him. But oddly enough, when both Nova and Monika were in primary school, it was Leonard who took care of both of them. Monika doesn't remember at all, but Nova does.
After thinking about her past, Nova seemed to be a bit more relaxed, she puts her arms up and stands up while stretching. From the look, Nova looks like one of those girls who are at the best time of her life, but the cracking sounds coming from all over Nova's body while she's stretching reminds others that this is the military legend who's cold-blooded and with terrifying precision.
Unlike Monika, Nova isn't really the communicational type, especially when she's operating a mission. Without even alerting a sleeping cat on the top of the building, Nova sets up her sniper rifle and starts adjusting the scope and the trajectory. To be fair, she doesn't need to do any of that, because, during her training, Nova could fire an armor-piercing sniper cartridge without even needing a weapon. She can use her psychic power to fire the bullet with even her bare hand and changes the trajectory with her mind. But she decided to stick with the traditional method. Maybe Nova is a traditional person after all.
After a muffled noise, a few seconds later a car crashed onto the fence on the highway. It was a long-range snipe of a car that's going 120 km/h. Nova then uses her scope to check for survivors and for some reason a little boy climbed out from the wreckage of the car. He seemed lost and confused probably because of his age. "We've got a survivor. It is a five-year-old boy. He was not shown on the list." Nova calls Leonard on her headphones.
"Finish your job, Nova." The other side speaks with a cold tone.
"But…" For once Nova hesitated. Indeed, she's a cold-blooded soldier but all of those killing is for the imperium. This is different, right now she has the option of not killing him, but she would be forced to do more missions like this. But killing the boy would mean that she's committing murder.
"Finish. Your. Job." Leonard's voice starts to sound frightening.
Just when Nova was about to pull the trigger, the boy suddenly wandered onto the middle of the highway. In a blink of an eye, he got run over by a car. Nova saw the whole thing on the scope, there was blood everywhere. She's shocked, both of her eyes are focused on where the accident happened. She leaves the sniper rifle and takes out her visor. She needs a breather. There was no sound because Nova is far away from the scene. But she somehow could hear the noise of his body splashing on the extremely fast car.
Nova sits on the ground while looking at the sky, she feels dizzy. It is strange that she has killed thousands of people over her career but not even once she felt anything like this. After a few minutes of silence, she finally said: "Mission complete."
While Nova is putting her sniper rifle back into her weapons case, her mind snapped again. This time she could hear the boy's cry when the car crashed. She drops the case on the ground and holds her head while on her knee. The boy probably was a young psyker. That's why she could hear the scream and the pain he was experiencing. It projects out like a shockwave and Nova could receive it.
Later, Nova didn't go home or go back to the military barracks. Maybe for the first time in her life, she felt fear, hopelessness, and death at the same time. She's walking like a zombie, just simply repeating the walking animation. For some reason, she arrives at Monika's house. By instinct, she just knocks on her door. But the person answered isn't Monika, it is Minka.
"Hello, lieutenant colonel!" Minka beams out with energy.
Nova remembers Minka, but she's not here for her. Instead of even saying goodbye, Nova just walks away like how she came, completely lifeless and seemingly bothered. Suddenly she feels a grip on her hand. She turns with her intimidating look.
Minka holds Nova's hand and looks at Nova in the eye: "Come in, we should talk about this." Without even waiting for Nova to reply, Minka just pulls Nova into the house.
"I don't need help!" Nova breaks off Minka's grip, but her body isn't leaving. Because she indeed needs help.
"Nova… Trust me I can help. That's one of the reasons I'm here." Minka holds Nova's right hand with both of her hands.
Instead of being stubborn like Terras always does. Nova breaks into tears: "I can't… I can't do this anymore..." This is the mission that breaks Nova's emotions. She just can't hold it anymore. Now all of those deaths and the scream of her victim start coming back to her. As if all of them came back and haunt her when the boy died. For some reason she bursts into tears in front of a stranger for her, Nova wouldn't do this with Monika because she can't let her know that Nova is not as strong as she seems.
Minka hugs Nova lightly and slowly puts her hands on Nova's head, this is one of the missions she needs to do. Suddenly Minka's eyes are glowing in golden light, the light outlines the structure of Minka's eyes. But Nova on the other hand suddenly stops tearing and slowly falls asleep.
Minka gently puts Nova on the sofa and brings a blanket, and then she rushes into the toilet. In the toilet, Minka is vomiting extremely hard, and her face is just like Nova's when she came in. After a few more minutes, Minka cleans her mouth and washes her face. Just within a few minutes she looked aged a bit and her hair was a mess.
When she came out, Nova was still sleeping on the sofa like a child. Minka forces out a smirk, Nova looks harmless when she's sleeping. Then Minka proceeds to the fridge and takes out a piece of rose cake. She lost everything she ate due to the visit to the toilet. so now she needs to regain some energy.
Then Minka slowly sits beside Nova, she notices a small noticeable smirk on Nova's face while she's sleeping, probably she's dreaming about the kitty cat at this point. Seeing Nova like this, Minka suddenly feels a surge of exhaustion and after a few minutes, she falls asleep as well.
When Minka wakes up, she notices that she's still on the couch, but Nova is nowhere to be found: "So, rude!" Minka said while sounding a bit mad. Why is everyone from the Terra family rude? : "Am I also here to teach them manners?!" Minka is venting out the anger.
"Teach who?" Nova suddenly decloaks. She never left the house; she's still waiting for Minka to wake up.
"No one?..." Minka is a bad liar like her mother.
"Who are you? Like for real, who the hell are you?" Nova loses all of her cool because this girl in front of her looks extremely familiar and it is a pain that Nova couldn't figure out.
"I am Minka… Monika's friend." Minka makes an innocent face.
"Friend? I know all of Monika's friends and you are not one of them. For some reason, I can't even read your mind. So… last chance…. Who. The. Hell. Are. You?" Nova sounds impatient. Minka can hear the noise when Nova is making a fist with her hand. The cracking noise is not a pleasant sign.
Minka leaves out a long sigh, is not because she can't win the fight against Nova, it's just she doesn't want to make a mess of the house and get scolded by either Monika or Trazyn: " I am Minka, and I am your niece…From future."
Nova seemingly is convinced by this answer: "Why did you change my memory?" she asks, because she can notice if someone altered her memory or not.
"Because it is one of my missions… can't really tell you why because what's the fun in that?" Minka smirks.
"Ah… so your father is that scumbag." Nova knows that smirks very well: "So at the end, they actually had a result…" she backs off from where Minka is and looks at the ceiling of the house in a depressed way.
"Yea… you were not happy during the wedding apparently." Minka retreats her smirk and looks at Nova like a scared kitty.
"I can imagine that." Nova kinda likes this future niece of hers. She then reaches out her hand: "Nice to meet you." Nova finally has a non-mechanical smile on her face.
Then they shake each other's hands, just when Nova is about to leave, Monika and Trazyn enter the house: "Sis? What are you doing here?" Monika is surprised because Nova didn't really tell her anything about visiting.
"I invited her!" Minka winks to Nova: "Because I thought we need a bit more people to finish all of the food you guys are going to make."
"Yea, I just finished a lot of paperwork… so I accepted the invite." Nova smiles while looking away.
"Huh?" Trazyn doesn't look convinced at all, but he then gets stared back by Nova's gaze of death. After a few seconds, he also says: "That sounds like a good idea!" He even claps a few times because he got scared a bit by Nova.
"Alright, you weirdos..." Simple as Monika, she didn't really read out the hidden message, she just felt a bit awkward. Then she's off to drop the food she and Trazyn bought in the kitchen.
"I just can't see why I would even like this guy." Nova leans to Minka while looking at Trazyn with a mean expression.
"You never really did… but try to ignore him for the sake of mom..." Minka just grins helplessly.
"Wait, you guys already know that much?" Trazyn is about to say more but Nova's gaze again let him shut up and go to the kitchen to help Monika.
That night, they had a nice dinner. Even there are a few occasions that Nova is being a bit hostile towards Trazyn, overall, it went fine. At least it was better compared to the time when they met in Mirrodin. Later on, when Monika has gone to sleep while Trazyn is working on stuff, Minka takes out her notebook and ticks off an item on her list.
"What is that?" Suddenly Trazyn appeared behind Minka and startled her.
"Nothing!" Minka quickly puts away the notebook with her crimson daemon ability.
"Then why are you acting strange?" Trazyn leans his head sideways and looks at Minka with his signature smugness: "Come on, let's do a bit of sharing activity here. Just you and me." Trazyn then moves a chair and sits on it."
"I can't really show you…. It's personal." Minka looks away, she clearly has her reason but she's delivering it badly.
"I thought we are family…." Trazyn suddenly sounds a bit sad. And he puts his hand on his face covering the eyes.
"We are! But…" Minka is a soft person, she then takes out the notebook again and holds it with both of her hands: "I can't show it to you because it has information that you shouldn't know…"
"Like what? Secrets about the future?" Trazyn said it in a mocking tone.
"Yes, also please don't talk in that tone, it is rude." Minka apparently doesn't like people who are rude to her.
"Or what?" Trazyn is trying to find out how far he can go while trying to provoke Minka. He kinda does it to everyone he met, like the time he first met Nova and the first time he met Monika.
"Or I'll tell mom that you are being mean to me." Minka smugs: "You know what's gonna happen, right? She will get mad at you because you are invading my private space."
Trazyn suddenly can't find anything else to say, this doesn't happen often or at all. He's not mad, because at least his daughter isn't an idiot. But the problem is that she's too smart, he suddenly feels a bit uncomfortable because ever since he met Minka, she's always been a mysterious being for Trazyn. Sure, he can tell this is definitely the daughter of his but the way she does things isn't like either Trazyn or Monika. This is why he's a bit curious about the person that taught her all of that.
"Fair enough." Trazyn stands up for the chair and puts it back where it used to be: "I guess It's way past bedtime for you. Why are you still not in your bed? Young lady." Trazyn said it in a slightly mad tone.
"I'm sorry! I was just doing… my own things…" Minka lowers her head. She's playing along because she loves these role-play games: "I promise it won't happen again!" they both then burst into laughter after realizing what they've said.
Trazyn leaves Minka's room with a smile on his face, he feels happy to be part of this human family thing. When he gets out, he's startled by a pair of emerald, green eyes in the dark: "What in the world are you doing in the hallway?" Trazyn is a bit surprised by Monika's intrusion at midnight.
"What? Can't I also have fun with you guys?" Monika said it in a sarcastic way, then a long yawn left her mouth: "Actually, I woke up because you guys were too loud. The insolation of this house isn't that good."
"Why are you wearing something like going to the gym? Didn't you have better things to wear while sleeping?" Trazyn said it in a slightly taunting way, therefore it's normal that Monika keeps having that mad face and looking at Trazyn in a piercing way.
"So… you wanna go back to sleep or go out for a walk." Trazyn lightly pinches Monika's mad face, it's always a sight to see Monika's changes into her nonviolent and nonthreatening side.
Monika loosens her mad face and nods. Deep inside she's a bit jealous that Minka and Trazyn are spending a lot of time together. The truth is that Monika didn't even sleep at all, she wanted to go out and run a bit to relieve her mind. But the talk between these two just made her cancel all of that.
"You sure you don't want to wear anything warmer?" Trazyn looks at Monika in a concerning way, it is mid-November and Monika is wearing only a T-shirt and shorts.
"I'm fine, the cold never bothered me anyway." Monika clears her throat and starts talking to Trazyn in a light tone: "Hey… Traz. I was thinking that since my wounds are all healed up, maybe it is time that we get back on business."
"By business, you mean finding your friend and killing the black praetor?" Trazyn asks.
"The truth is, I've given the information to Nova, but I don't want her to be the one finishing it. It is my fault that Noel got captured and changed into that monster. I want to end it myself." Monika puts her hand on her chest and looks at Trazyn full of regret.
"Jeez, I can't imagine what you've been through while I wasn't here." Trazyn pulls Monika closer by holding her waist: "I'll always be here for you no matter what."
"Thank you…" Monika can feel the warmth radiating from Trazyn, she lied about not feeling the cold. She's freezing but she was just too stubborn to change her clothes even though she can do it instantly. Maybe deep inside she doesn't want Trazyn to worry about her. Either out of pride or just doesn't want Trazyn to burden her suffering even it is out of a silly reason.
