Within an hour of dropping Moca off at home, he felt the contingency he placed in Moco’s contact activated. Within moments he was notified of a location and the last few minutes of her conscious mind. She had been bugged, with a tracking device which alerted Kyrion to the fact that her father was the one who administered the drug and tools used to read her memories.
The fact they failed to learn anything, was a major annoyance. Though it wasn’t one he’d act upon. That was until a carbon copy of the girl he’d befriended stepped into the room, her skin much paler and certain discernible differences.
Erasing his presence, Kyrion teleported into the room.
“Shall I extract her brain? It would make things simple.”
“No, she’s still your sister.”
“You mean I’m her clone.”
“You’re all my children. Each a different Jac and Moca.”
“So what do you think is interfering with our devices?”
“I imagine the person we sent you after placed a block on that information.”
“How does that even? Oh right–Magic.”
“Yes, such a chaotic thing. Anyhow, Kyrion isn’t the only threat. We cannot allow them to discover our bases. We didn’t find any proof that he’s the one working with Alpha and Omega but he does know something. You should pretend to be Moca for a few days to gather information from the device.”
Kyrion placed his hand on a terminal, as an absurd amount of tactical information entered his head, data on various Slayer research bases flashed through his mind in an instant and he located his next quarry to have a talk. If this shard of his weren’t motivated enough to push the issue, Kyrion would. The Jac project, the loss of many innocent lives, and reckless human experimentation. Finally, the mindless culling of strong and weak Espers to maintain control over the masses. Then there was the device planted in every artificial Esper, meant to force them to die a painful death when a specific tune is played within earshot. Killing a friend's father isn’t something Kyion cared to make a habit of but in this case. Kyrion felt no guilt for his next scheme. Some people needed to die in utter despair with no hope or light at the end of the tunnel.
“But first.” Kyrion tapped the Moca clone on the side of her head and smiled as he began to unravel the mind control causing her form to start reverting slightly as confusion wracked her brain.
“Who am I? Where, why am I here?”
With that Kyrion technically Kidnapped his coffee-addicted friend and brought her to the only person he could trust.
Ander crossed his arms. “So you kidnapped a classmate because her father was attempting to pull memories from her head via unscrupulous means.”
“Correct.”
“And you thought whisking her away to another city, in a county far to the east would help?”
“Well…I kind of don’t want to make my handlers mad. Also if anything I flew west to get here and it took a lot less time than going east.”
“Kyrion, you’ll be the prime suspect if she disappears like that. Everyone with clout likely knows you can teleport.”
“No they don’t.”
Ander handed Kyrion a file, which he quickly read, then scowled. “Fine, they do. Who would have thought my dinner escapades would come back to bite me. Can I see a data drive by the way?”
Ander sighed and held out an external hard drive he’d brought from the house.
In a matter of seconds, Kyrion transferred the data on espers and his recent experiences onto the drive.
“Also Ander, you may not be into this, but there is likely a way to become like a god here. It involves giving a human a seed of your divine essence along with a healthy amount of mana to form a core. You can only teach them spells you know however, and it does reduce your mana maximum until they pay off the debt. So the bigger the investment the bigger the gains.”
“I don’t like that look in your eye?”
“Operation Santa Claus, according to these earth humans, every year a big red man who loves milk and cookies, goes from house to house delivering presents to all the good girls and boys. The power it generates could be used to get us back home or set up a two way doorway which can be used to go back and forth.”
“Sounds incomplete but, it’s a better start than we had before plus, it could make us thousands of times stronger.”
Chiyo who had stood there the whole time listening to the insanity grimaced. Unaware that they had been speaking in their native tongue.
“Why do you think giving children weapons of mass destruction is a good idea. What’s to stop them from using that power to harm and kill innocents with carless glee?”
“I have an answer for that but it's not for you. Ander?”
“To be specific people like you, also based on what Kyrion said certain restrictions can be placed on such powers until the debt is paid. It could be possible to take that power away if it’s abused.” Ander stated.
Kyrion did not know that, and opened his menu and scrolled to the restrictions and consequences pages. “Oh. Well that's fun.”
“What keeps you two from going around and killing anyone who annoys you?”
“Who says I don’t do that already?” Kyrion played dumb.
“For reasons, Kyrion doesn’t kill lightly. Because when he does, it's meant to be quick and decisive; he has a thief build with assassin lethality. Don’t let him trick you into thinking he’s some kind of peace loving druid.”
“What are you an Assassin?” Chiyo looked to Kyrion.
“I’ve been told my natural talents seem to overlap with assassin techniques. But what are you going on about?” Kyrion erased his presence without erasing his visual appearance causing Chiyo to look away from him for a brief moment in confusion.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
“Games. So, are you headed back now?”
“I guess I’ll talk to my handlers about this.”
Kyrion picked Moca back up and then teleported somewhere else.
“We could have looked after her.” Chiyo added.
“I can’t let him go down that path, hiding things from the people who look out for you is a big no no. Also, he has to explain to his people that she is now actively using magic.”
“What do you mean?”
“The level of magic she has is greater than yours, but also untrained and lacks discipline. Without guidance, she could go down the wrong path, which is something our academies are meant to teach early on. Most learn the lesson in humility through either the year-long meditation courses or out in the field. Kyrion learned his while out in the field when he lost his eye, thus doesn’t know how Drisil keeps the kids from killing each other.
“Year long meditation?“
”Other schools do something similar to keep those with power humble. From basic training meant to build discipline, to culling those who act out to set an example. Because for most schools no matter how strong you get, a professor will almost always be stronger. Though the schools that kill students are less popular for that reason.”
“That got dark fast.”
“I mean, death is a constant companion, but yes, it is rather inefficient, for the most part and a reason why there are no schools of necromancy anymore.”
“Why didn’t he respond to my question then.”
“Kyrion hates the philosophy behind your statement but doesn’t want to be rude. He may not look it but he is technically from nobility.”
“I mean, he does look the part, he just doesn’t act the part. Doesn’t seem as demanding as I'd imagine.”
“Enough about that interruption. Where are we going tonight?”
Chiyo adjusted her backpack and sighed. “Lets try for Kyoto, it’s in the Kansai region.”
“Alright, are you confident in flight yet?”
“Not yet.” Chiyo looked to the side.
Ander held out his hand and the duo flew off together.
“So… You kidnapped the U.S Branch Director of the Slayers, daughter.” Cedric stated.
“Yes.” Kyrion said matter of factly.
“Why?” Cedic placed both hands in front of his face and let out a deep breath.
“Because he was digging around inside her head trying to extract memories.”
“Can you prove that?”
“If he survives the night, I guess I’ll have to. If he dies, I won’t be the one who killed him.” Kyrion placed his finger on a computer and uploaded the information he’d gathered onto the computer within moments.
“You didn’t attack him, did you?”
“Me? No, of course not. I just partially healed one of his Artificial Espers and they likely went on a rampage.”
“Healed, how?”
“I removed the memory alteration and brainwashing along with the failsafe, then restored their memories.”
“Restored memories?”
“If it's any consolation, I did so after reading through the documents I just put on your computer, there are pieces missing of course as it would make finding my new cohort too easy, which would mean I helped you early.”
“Oh. That makes sense.” Cedric said with a hint of sarcasm.
“No…No it does not. She also has a great deal of magical power now, for reasons.” Kyrion sat Moca on the table and sighed.
“You're going to be a headache for a long time, aren't you?”
“I intend to leave in december, each day I’m not being reunited with my family, is another day I have to cause trouble.”
“So you can go back?”
“It’s going to be a lot of work, but give me the flexibility I need and I’ll get out of your hair.”
“But you're going to do it regardless.”
“I didn’t come here just because I could. Had I come later you may all be dead..”
“I see. If I may ask, why are teenagers given access to so much power early on?”
“If you must ask, the truth is we get magic around six and begin to train and learn when and where to use our magic as well as the consequences of hubris. No matter how strong you get there is always someone who can beat you. I don’t agree with some lessons taught but it's easier to, the first wakeup call is supposed to be a trip in the forest that should have ended with most of those involved, learning that.”
“You didn’t?”
“I learned that I taste delicious to monsters and need to be stronger, quicker or smarter than anything I fight. It wasn’t until I lost my eye that I had that knowledge that there were people far beyond my power. People I couldn’t find a way to beat or out think, on my own.”
“You sound cocky when you say that. Were you always strong?”
“I am a lot more crafty and cunning than most seem to notice off the bat. It's not meant to be a secret as much as it's a warning, My actions had led to someone around two tiers of power above me dying. The cost was the ire of someone much stronger. Afterwards I stayed relentless with my training, using my healing magic to put my body through extreme levels of abuse at a consistent rate breaking my body down and rebuilding it day after day, for well over four years. During the last year It became harder to properly train without moving about with enough weight over 30~ tons before I broke into the second tier of power and everything began to sprout,”
“So, what you're saying is not everyone from your planet is a training obsessed superpowered monster that can take on dragons on their own?”
“Well yes…No, what I'm saying is most people know humility. Your organizations need people with Power, give Jin a promotion after he gets strong enough to take down powerful monsters alone, then let him lead his friends that are willing to fight with him. The mechs I leave behind will be split between the Janitors, and Cerberus unless I find pilots.”
“Ok. So, what do you want?”
“To keep Moca away from her family and school for a week and a half. In response I’ll set things in motion that makes sure that the Slayers fall apart from the inside and their Esper experimentation stops while also giving you an easy and safe way to create stronger Espers without the high chance of death.” Kyrion pulled out a vial containing each of his affinities mixed within a highly concentrated mind mana base.
“What is this?”
“One drop on either the tongue, side of the head, or in the eye will awaken your brain and allow for natural abilities to form. To those who don’t want simple magic I have these, and they allow for one to get a little magic directly from me.” Kyrion placed a card on the table.
“What is that?”
“An awakening contract. I have a bit of every major affinity over time, so it’s versatile and quick to start.”
“Why is it a card?”
“Because I intend to make more.”
“Got it,we’ll keep an eye on Moca for a while but remember, she’s a student, missing classes will do more harm than good. What if she doesn’t graduate?”
“Nobody will graduate if you fail to defend this world from the first attack. I say pluck up everyone in the club that has magic and train them after school. Humanity may need their power.”
“Why are you appealing to my sense of logic, so well? It’s like you know exactly what to say to get me to do what you want?”
“Cecil is a very good friend of mine. If Bella wasn’t around I’d say we were best friends. I’ve talked him into and out of a lot of things in the five years we’ve worked with each other. If you think things through or frame your words as though you thought things through, you can slip things past him or get him to agree to things he wouldn't have otherwise. Usually because it benefits him and he’s the damage control to my asinine plans.”
“What schemes have you gotten up to?”
“Selling weapons to the other groups with small nuclear reactors that can be detonated from anywhere on the planet. Sure it wastes resources, but it also greatly damages their attack power when enemies steal or purchase it through third parties.”
“You knew what a nuclear reactor was before coming here?”
“I do now? I knew that it would blow up, with a big boom. I knew it was the fire of decay that interferes with my regeneration. But now I know its name, and that it may have been a bad idea to sell them, had quite a few not ended up in the hands of that empire.”
“He built a nuclear reactor on your planet. Why?”
“He wanted to see if magic would interact with it. Don’t tell anyone else but Nuclear energy creates absurd amounts of raw mana for brief periods of time. First fire, then a strange form of healing that seems to do the opposite, then grants anything that lives there a form of mana poisoning over time.”
“Is that how you see it?”
“Yes. It’s a good thing they didn’t get used as a weapon in this world?”
“They are a somewhat recent discovery but yes. Based on what you said, dropping these on a monster could make it stronger if it survived.”
“Oh very much so. Hmmm…If you do manage to wrangle those clubmates of mine, give Mira this key.” Kyrion handed Cedric a purple key.
“What does it do?”
Kyrion blinked slowly.
“It opens a portal into a building, when used against a wall, then goes through the door marked with the symbol of a cube, to enter a training dungeon. Also, you're going to be getting a large influx of gold soon. Prepare accordingly.”
“Gold?”
“That's all for today.” Kyrion teleported away.
