Chapter 3 - Trial begins

Chapter 3 - Trial begins

“Where exactly are we going?”

Nick questioned Lauren as he turned his head to the side.

Both of them were walking down a long corridor, the walls had pictures of both men and women, but that was it. There were no doors leading to a room just a long hallway.

“I’m taking you to your trial. We are almost there.”

“The way he was talking was as if they were not the ones deciding what sort of trial i’ll take. What exactly did he mean by ancestors?”

Lauren looked at Nick and chuckled.

“It’s a long story, but the sort version is you’ll be visiting one of the previous clan leaders. They will then decide what sort of punishment you’ll receive.”

Soon Lauren stopped her movements as she led Nick towards a white door. The rest of the house was brown in color, but this door was unusual, considering it was pure white in color.

Lauren placed her hands on Nicks shoulder and looked him in the eye.

“Nick, do not lose yourself. Just remember what my father told you, there is only one entrance and one exit.”

Nick nodded his head.

It was a bit weird hearing Lauren have some concern for him, but he did not mind. He wasn’t planning on losing himself, he was going to finish this and save his mother.

Nick opened the white door, and was greeted by a white light causing him to shield his eyes.

When he finally adjusted, he found himself in a forest. Looking up, the sun was shining down brightly, but he didn’t really feel any heat. There was a clear path in front of him. No trees, no bushes, just a short patch of grass that created a long pathway.

Nick turned around and saw the same thing, but the path stretched towards the other end.

“What is this?”

Nick was utterly confused, he knew he couldn’t be in a forest but he also did not feel this was an illusion either. This wasn’t like school where you could create environments, this place actually existed.

He began walking forward, not treading from the path at all. Sometimes he would pass by a small lake, other times he’d find himself going through a cave, and sometimes he even walked through snow.

With each change in the environment, Nick found himself more and more confused by the moment.

He had a thought to walk back and return the way he came, but something told him that was the wrong answer. As long as he stayed on this path, he would reach the exit. No turning back.

Not knowing how long he’s been walking for, the sky turned dark. Yet, Nick felt that couldn’t be right, his sense of time made him feel that he’s only been walking for an hour or so.

Soon, Nick found himself in a cavern. He couldn’t see anything in front of him, but he knew the path in front of him would be clear with no obstacles in the way.

“So, you are my descendant?”

A voice echoed in Nick’s ear.

In this dark cavern, he saw two clear blue eyes that looked as if they were floating midair.

Those were the clearest blue eyes he’s seen, in this dark cavern those eyes seemed to bring forth light.

“I see, you carry not only one, but two bloodlines within your body. But, how did you enter this space? I’m sure I closed it off so no one can enter.”

Nick stopped walking and gazed at those blue eyes.

“I do not understand it either, I was given a trial and found myself here.”

Nick answered.

“A trial? I think I understand, but it still should not be connected to my space. Well, since you’re here, I guess this could be attributed to your luck.”

“My luck?”

“Nevermind. Come closer so I can get a better look at you.”

Nick found himself moving forward even though he wasn’t making his body move, it was like he was forced to move forward against his own will.

Soon, he was inches apart from those blue eyes, but he could still not see who they belonged to.

“To think it’s been over a thousand years and my blood still flows in the body of the living. Regrettably, its weak.”

“Who are you?”

Nick asked as he looked up.

The voice laughed.

“Guess you can’t see me.”

The man snapped his fingers and the lights seemed to turn on in the cavern.

In front of Nick was a giant boulder, at least five feet tall, and seated on top of it was a man who seemed to come from a primitive age. His blonde hair was messy, but his white skin was smooth and clear of any blemishes. He was wearing a fur vest, that seemed to be made out of bear skin with a necklace of teeth hanging around his neck.

“Welcome to my humble abode little fellow. You may address me as Zane, the God Slayer.”
