Part Two
In Shadow, every member was assigned to a squad and every member had a role they had to fulfill. A structure like this was not only in Shadow, it was in other organizations as well. The basic composition consists of a tank and a healer, while the other roles can be filled with anything else.
A tank was in charge of being on the front lines, absorbing damage. While a healer took care of any wounds a member may have.
Besides those two roles, there were various other roles a person could fulfill. What role a person could fill was based on the EXO ability they had, as well as the weapon they chose.
The most common role an EXO user took up was warrior. They dealt damage on the frontline and usually used a sword. While the least common was Tamer. Tamers had a special trait of communicating with different kinds of mutated beast. Tamers would then make a pact with a mutated beast and the mutated beast would fight for the tamer.
Squad four consisted of one vanguard, two warriors, an assassin, and mage.
Although they did not have a healer in the squad, the one who took up the mage role could heal minor wounds.
Nick’s team arrived at the scene and they all got off their bikes.
It was late in the night and many of the news reporters had already left. There was only a tv crew left, but they were cleaning up their equipment.
The police force was still around the perimeter keeping civilians out.
Illiana flipped her a part of her long black hair to the side, as she approached the scene.
Illiana was wearing a black zip-up jacket that clung to her body, and some black leggings. On her side was her her katana, that was in its white sheath.
Her azure blue eyes scanned the scene before she turned around to face the other four members.
“Two at the front door, six standing guard.”
Illiana said softly as she looked at Nick.
Nick’s hazel eyes turned icy blue as he looked over the place as well.
Inside the building, there were five figures that appeared in his eyes. Each one of them was walking around.
Two of them were located on the first floor, one in the basement and the last two were on the second floor.
“Five inside, two on the second floor, two on the first floor, one below.”
Nick told the group as his eyes turned back to normal.
Illiana glanced at Darren.
Darren threw his hood over his head hiding his face. The only thing that could be seen was two light purple irises.
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
“I know already.”
Darren told her as he placed his hands on the girl's shoulder next to him. She had short light purple hair that stopped at her neck with dark purple highlights. She was wearing a tight black leather bodysuit, with black gloves. Wrapped around her waist was a utility belt which was filled with various objects.
Her name was Skylar Snow, but she liked to be called Skye. She was a senior at Demeter Academy as well as a member of the Student Council and she fulfilled the mage role.
A mage was capable of utilizing different spells to harm or disable their opponent. They could also buff their allies if needed.
A split second after Darren placed his hand on Skye’s shoulder they vanished.
The two of them reappeared on the second floor. The window was broken allowing others to enter if they were able to.
The ground was darkened in color, even matching the paint on the walls.
“I’m going to grab the others, you handle these two.”
Darren told Skye as he disappeared.
Skye knelt down and placed her hand on the floor. A purple colored energy went down her arm into the floor, as she whispered some words to herself.
Two figures appeared on the ground if one was not close they would not even see them. In this dark place, it was hard to make out these two figures. They were shadows, the kind a person had when the sun was up.
Skye closed her eyes as the two shadows moved through the floor.
When the rest of the squad arrived on the floor, Skye was leaning on the wall.
In front of her were two bodies lying on the ground with their eyes closed. They were wearing a blue uniform and had a badge on their shirt.
It was easy to tell they were still alive since their chest moved up and down.
“Search this floor first, we will work our way down.”
Illiana told them, as they nodded their heads.
This was a two-story building not including the basement, but it was fairly large.
The first floor was going to be used to chat with the guest that came, while the second floor would be used for the actual auction.
The second floor was never in use, but it was still good to look it over in case something appeared that could be of use. Sadly that was not the case, as they found nothing on the second floor.
When they made their way down to the first floor they knocked out the two police officers. On this floor was well, there was nothing they found unusual.
A young man with light blue hair opened the door that led below, but in front of him was a man.
They looked at each other for a moment before the man spoke up.
“What ar-”
Before he could finish his sentence, his whole body was enclosed in ice. Only his face was left untouched.
“What are we going to do with him?”
Skye asked.
Illiana was the captain or squad leader of squad four, so she gave orders.
“Taylor, did he see your face?”
Illiana questioned Taylor with narrowed eyes.
“Sadly.”
Illiana sighed.
The man enclosed in ice could still hear them. His mouth was covered but from the movements he was making with his eyes, he was panicking. Thinking that they were going to kill him.
“Contact Ryan.”
Illiana told Taylor, as she brushed past him and headed towards the basement.
Taylor brought out his phone and started typing, as the other three followed Illiana.
“Look here newbie, don’t ever let anyone see your face. Especially on operations like this.”
Darren told Nick.
Nick gave a slight smile and continued forward.
As they went deeper a smell entered their noses, causing Nick to blow air out of his nose.
“I believe this is what we were looking for.”
Illiana said to them as they stepped on the ground floor.
Nick raised his eyebrow as he took in the scene in front of him.
