Chapter 16: The Unforeseen Sphere

Chronia sombrely poked her head out of the motorhome's raised sunroof. She glanced around at her surroundings before sighing and dropping back into the motorhome. Chronia landed on the floor before Zalina hopped into Chronia's arms.

"Honestly... I'm beginning to think he runs off to torment my heart," Chronia murmured.

"Oh, so is Zalroth your BF?" Ruiria inquired as she was converting the pull-out sofa into its bed mode. For a split second, Chronia was silent before she amusedly and over-enthusiastically laughed, arching her back backwards as her laughing morphed into bellowing.

"Of course, he's not; we're anime movie night buddies, so I can't, in good faith, watch any new anime without him," Chronia stated.

"...". Ruiria silently muttered as she stared at Chronia before she lowered the unfolded bed on the floor, "Yeah, that makes more sense for you.". Onix itched his head before shrugging as he returned to reading his Little Snake-chan's Adventurers manga.

"You should answer the door," Onix remarked.

"Do you sense someone coming?" Zalina asked as she climbed onto Chronia's shoulders.

"I see them out the window, so you could say I'm sensing them with observation," Onix remarked. Suddenly, there was a knock at the motorhome's side door. The girls looked at each other before switching between pointing at each other and themselves. Onix sighed before warping with a Persian green particle effect to the side door.

Onix pushed the door open, causing the orange potion barrier to move. The other peeked around Onix and saw the top of Malfaroth's umbrella. Malfaroth raised his umbrella, revealing Lily and Nolazir.

(Lily is wearing an oversized dark blue hoodie with white shark teeth-shaped pearls around the inside of the hood, dark blue booty shorts, and dark blue shark-themed crocks)

(Nolazir is wearing a pale blue oversized puffy sweater with a turtle neck and boots made of ice)

"Good evening, my night fairing fellows, wonderful weather we're having," Malfaroth said as he gave a professional bow while keeping his umbrella perfectly flat.

"It sure is, sublime conditions for the local snake populos," Onix replied, causing Chronia to narrow her eyes at him.

"Can't you go five minutes without talking about snakes?" Chronia grumbled as she peered around Onix to look at the trio.

Meanwhile, a chorus of scuttling howled from below as Zalroth plummeted through a dilapidated castle-dungeon-looking sinkhole. Zalroth scoffed and raised an arm out to his side. Fire mana swirled around his arm and gathered into his palm. Zalroth reeled his right arm back, with the fire mana condensing in his palm, before expanding and forming into a flaming javelin. Flexing his arm as small embers of green qi seeped out, Zalroth hurled the fire mana javelin straight downwards, temporarily lighting up the area around it as it hurtled into the darkness below.

The light of the javelin faded as it fell further and further below before seemingly fizzling out. A brief moment later, the light of the javelin exploded, illuminating the bottom level of the drop as the combustion and writhing screeches of the monsters echoed through the air. The screeching eventually seized as the floor came into Zalroth's view.

Zalroth landed on the floor with a leaf-crunching stomp. He glanced at the scorched remains-covered ground and brushed some of the remains with his foot, the bodies charred so badly that even if they retained their shape anyone would still struggle to identify the creatures. Zalroth glanced at his right hand before tightly clenching it to dispel the remaining qi embers.

"Good grief, it's getting-". Zalroth ducked before Roundhouse-kicking the scorched human-sized ant monster into the ground, launching the crispy ash on the ground into the air. Zalroth glared at the ant monster before his pupils slightly narrowed as he layed upon the azure-coloured crystals protruding all over the ant's body.

Zalroth gradually raised his foot from the ant and let his foot hang over it before he clicked his tongue. He slammed his foot back on the ant, crushing its torso and blasting the surrounding ash away from the resulting shockwave. Zalroth raised his foot from the ant before flinching upon getting a better look at the crystals the ant was made of. After covering his eyes, Zalroth pessimistically sighed as he lowered his hand.

"It really is getting worse," Zalroth murmured as he kicked the sapphire gem ant's body away. Zalroth rubbed his eyes before glancing to the side as a faint choir of voices murmured nearby.

"Are there others already in this magic dungeon?" Zalroth thought. He placed a hand on his chin and remembered something from earlier: Zalroth recalled the news on the motorhome's radio talking about sapphire fragments appearing at the scene of multiple people's disappearances locations. Zalroth lowered his hand and turned in the direction of the voices.

"Do mineral monsters even eat...,". Zalroth shook his head and heavily exhaled, "Nah... let's not think about it too hard.". As Zalroth walked off, the baseball-sized orb of light giddily fluttered behind Zalroth while making the sapphire gem ants' remains morph into crystal bananas when it floated over them.
