Chapter 13: Calm Before A Downpour

Chronia meekly groaned as she took out her phone (which has a cyan kitsune-eared phone case) from her onesie's inside pouch and opened contacts, which consisted of only six contacts: her parents, Marok, Max, Onix, and Ruiria. Chronia sighed and puffed up her cheek as she rested it on one of her outreached arms.

"What a bother...," Chronia murmured as she typed a message on her phone.

"Sending a text isn't the wisest choice in this situation," Onix remarked. Chronia halted her typing and removed her gaze from her phone to look at Onix before she immediately resumed typing.

"Why?" Chronia asked groggily.

"It's rather simple, really. When I left to come here a few minutes ago, my... parents... were in the middle of trying to convince yours to dispatch Master Marok to try and retrieve you," Onix remarked, causing Chronia to flinch and nervously gulp.

"... I think I'll call then," Chronia muttered as she rapidly clicked the delete button on her phone. Chronia pressed the icon of her mother's contact, and Chronia's phone made meowing noises as she waited for her mother to pick up. Zalroth and Zalina's ears mildly twitched as their senses returned gradually from the meowing rings of the phone. Chronia's phone ceased its meowing, and Chronia quietly exhaled and lowered her head.

"Hey, mama... it's me, don't threat. I'm not in any danger... thanks to Zalroth swooping in at the last second," Chronia said as her lips quivered after every other word. Chronia glanced at Zalroth and sharply elbowed Zalroth in the side to snap him back to reality.

"Wir werden angegriffen!" Zalina blurted out as she panically flailed her arms around. Zalroth placed a hand on Zalina's forehead and gently shook her head to quell her panic-filled state with Zalina making funny woah noises from the swaying.

"You've got a lot of nerv-". Zalina threw her hands against the bottom of Zalroth's chin to force his mouth shut and stop Zalroth from talking.

"Shush unoma is talking on the phone!" Zalina exclaimed adamantly, causing Chronia's mother to chuckle over the phone. Chronia covered her mouth and smugly snickered before Zalroth averted his gaze to the window; however, Chronia's attention was drawn back to her phone as her mother began speaking over the phone.

"Huh? Onix's parents want to know what happened to the kidnapper? ... well, you see," Chronia uttered as she repeated her mother's question while glancing at Zalroth.

"Just say they're not around for questioning if you catch my drift," Zalroth stated half-heartedly as he placed a hand on Zalina's forehead before tightening his grip, causing Zalina to ball her eyes out and frantically apologised to Zalroth for hitting him. Chronia unamusedly squinted at Zalroth before she deflatedly sighed.

"You get that, mama?" Chronia asked as she muttered to her phone while unintentionally positioning her phone to capture a glimpse of Zalroth, followed by an annoyed huff from the phone.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"Very much, sweetie. Now, if you'll excuse myself and your father, we will relay your condition to the Blights," Chronia's mother stated calmly to a chilling degree before ending the call herself. Chronia shivered as she placed her phone back in her onesie and slumped back on the sofa.

"Urg... she saw...," Chronia grumbled as she covered her eyes with one of Zalina's tails.

A few minutes later, in a finely furnished mansion living room, Chronia's mother set her phone on the long coffee table before putting her hands together and resting her chin on her clasped hands.

"And that's about it," Chronia's mother stated while the Blight parents quietly listened.

"We understand, and given Onix and Max voicing their preference to avoid any further arranged marriages; we shall void the previous agreement for combining our companies through marriage and allow Onix to decide on how to proceed given we already handed over ownership of our company to him," Mr Blight stated calmly and methodically.

"We look forward to the day he decides when he does," Mr Sakamoto stated before he and Mrs Sakamoto bowed followed by the Blights bowing back. After Chronia's mother picked up her phone, the Sakamoto's rose to their feet before they left the living room as Mrs Sakamoto looked at a screenshot on her phone showing Chronia, Zalroth and Zalina in the motorhome.

"I understand Zalroth, but how could Nai not tell me about Zalroth's adorable kitsune ego?" Chronia whined quietly as she rubbed her face.

"So, that's who it was," Mr Sakamoto asked. Mrs Sakamoto cocked her head at her husband, making him raise an eyebrow in the process.

"You knew about her?" Mrs Sakamoto asked calmly.

"Well, in retrospect, it's hard to notice someone when they hit you in the face at mach one or whatever speed she was going," Mr Sakamoto remarked. The duo's voices drifted further and further away until they could no longer be heard. The Blights gently placed their hands on their laps and closed their eyes.

"It would appear my attempt to acquire the keither ability of the Sakamoto's only child has fallen through...," Mr Blight murmured.

"...but at least I know where she and the other escapees from a few years ago will be," Mrs Blight uttered, "and the irony of me asking their butler to track down a missing person with keither is pretty funny.".

The Blights' bodies abruptly convulsed before collapsing onto the sofa as a pitch-black smoke oozed out of their body and gathered into the shape of a small child floating in the air.

"I wonder if I'll see one of the other Zs again," the smoke child said with a girly giggle before disappearing.

Back in Ruiria's motorhome, Onix peered out of the motorhome's side window to the dusk-filled sky and silently watched the various shaped dark clouds in the distant skies.

"I wonder when Kunao will catch up," Onix uttered mentally before he placed a hand on his chin, "I'm sure she should be able to teleport like I do by now.".

Zalina and Chronia watched the tiny snake golems racing across the mini-race course on the table whilst Zalroth read the copy of the manga: Despite Being A Coward, I Ended Up Becoming A Wanted Criminal After Accidentally Kidnapping The Princess Before Her Arranged Marriage.

"At least it's not raining over here," Onix remarked.

"Don't jinx it!" Ruiria whined pitifully as a drop of rain hit the motorhome's windshield. Ruiria slumped her shiba inu ears and pulled over to the side of the road underneath some trees for shelter from the incoming rain.
