Chapter 29

Johnny masks his aura and sneaks into the compound like a shadow.

Once inside his eyes widen. There were countless auras; all of them vampires.

Johnny continues to explore. Suddenly, he felt a heavy pressure. Johnny's brows furrow and he goes to investigate, climbing up to look through a window. A man and a young virgin were inside. The lady's clothes have been stripped and the man was caressing her, easing her into the mood, before he devoured her.

Johnny's catches a glimpse and his eyes widen before hurriedly leaping away. That guy was on the eighth stage. Damn. He says before quickly leaving the compound.

Lucy looks over and raises an eyebrow. “How’d it go?” She asks.

Johnny shakes his head. “There’s an eighth stage powerhouse guarding the compound. We have no chance.” He says before letting out a sigh. “Come on, let’s go back. We can only hope that they won’t catch our trail.” He says, giving up on the matter.

Mary Rose frowns. “Come on, Johnny, you can take them.” She says encouragingly.

Johnny lets out an awkward laugh. “Mary Rose, I’m serious. I’ll really die if I go against them.” He says before grabbing her hand and leading her away. “Come on, let’s get out of here before bad luck really decides to strike.” He says before a thought occurs to him and he looks at his chest. “Hey, where’s my bad luck amulet?” He says, curious. Did I lose it? That’s not good. Whoever picks that up will face a disaster. Johnny thinks, somewhat worried.

In truth, Johnny’s nature somewhat offset the effects of the bad luck amulet, so he was fine most of the time. Really, most of the time, all it did was take away all the good luck Johnny would have received. But if a normal person were to wear the bad luck amulet, the effects really would be disastrous.

Johnny shakes his head, helpless. He could only leave the matter to fate.

Leo was panting heavily. His face bruised all over and his body aching.

He took a taxi here and got into another car crash. Then, Leo decided to just use his legs. But the world didn’t care, he was hit by another car while crossing the road.

Then Leo began to walk slowly, wary of everything around him. But who knew that lightning could rain down while the sky was clear?

Leo eventually made it to Saint Anne’s and Saint Mary’s, and he quickly calls Johnny. “Senior… Where are you?” He asks with heavy breaths.

“I’m driving back to the hotel, why?” He asks.

Leo felt like he was about to cry. “I’m at Saint Anne’s and Saint Mary’s. I wanted to give you back your amulet!” He exclaims, somewhat mourning.

“Hey? Do you guy’s smell Rinaldo’s blood?” A voice says from somewhere nearby.

Leo looks up warily at the sound.

“Yeah, I think I do. Where is that guy anyway? He should have been back by now.” Another voice says.

“I don’t know. But let’s find where that smell is coming from. Something could have happened to Rinaldo.” The voice says.

Johnny’s eyes widen at the news. “You have the pendant!? Damn Leo! Throw it away! You have to get rid of that thing right now!” He exclaims, worried for Leo’s life.

Leo’s eyes widen and he quickly takes out the pendant and throws it away, before quickly leaving the scene.

Two vampire’s approach the area. “Hmm. I swear I smelled Rinaldo’s blood. But it’s gone now.” One of them says.

“Hey? What's that?” One of the vampires says. He walks over and picks up a pendant with a black gemstone.

“Damn. That looks nice. I’ve never owned a black gemstone before. Hand it over.” A vampire says.

The other vampire smiles and holds it away. “No way, chump. Get your own. Come on, let’s go back inside and wait for Rinaldo. Maybe he got held up.” He says before placing the amulet on his neck and walking away.

Seeing as the pendant has been claimed, the other vampire could only let it go and go back inside.

Johnny looks at Leo and shakes his head. “Damn. You really almost died.” He says before gesturing. “Come inside and rest. You deserve it, buddy.” He says.

Leo walks in, limping occasionally before collapsing onto the couch. “Senior, what was that thing?” He asks. When Johnny mentioned it, he immediately realized that his trouble started when he picked up that pendant. As he thought of it, fear appeared in his eyes. What kind of terrible thing did Johnny make? He wonders.

Johnny lets out a bitter smile. “That’s a bad luck amulet. And not just any sort of bad luck amulet, that thing has been building up all sorts of bad karma.” He says as he takes a seat nearby. “What happened?” Johnny asks.

Leo lets out a sigh and explains what happened to him today.

Johnny’s eyes widen. “You killed a vampire? That’s not good.” He says.

“What! You killed a vampire?” Lucy exclaims from the dining table.

Mary Rose looks on worriedly.

Johnny shakes his head. “It looks like we’ll have to fight them no matter what.” He says, feeling somewhat sad. He was sort of expecting to die now that this has happened.

Lucy’s eyes widen. “Johnny! We can’t fight them! That’s an eighth stage powerhouse! We’ll all die! We'll have to run!” She exclaims. There was no way they could face off against that sort of beast. Running was their only chance at life.

Johnny lets out a bitter smile. “Running won’t be of any use.” He says as he begins to process the matter. Johnny lets out a sigh. “I have to advance in my cultivation technique. If I get to the third stage, we might have a chance.” He says, somewhat hopeful.

Mary Rose raises an eyebrow. “How can you just advance? Is that something that can be so easily done? Also, aren’t you not allowed to force your cultivation technique?” Mary Rose asks.

Johnny lets out a sigh. “That’s the thing about the dao. It understands urgency. If there’s a need, it will gladly progress the situation as required. I can make it to the third stage, but that’s probably the limit. And that would only barely give us a chance.” He says. Tonight is going to be a long night. He thinks, worried.
