The Operation (3)

"In another world, there were a people of amphibians who used a language known as the Mannar language. But here in this world and this life, Jack found someone who spoke this language, though it was distorted and corrupted in some way. Jack stared intensely at the patient and said in a lowered voice, 'You... are you a traveler? Someone who lived a life in another world and then reincarnated into this one?'

However, the patient didn't answer Jack. Instead, he continued to moan those words repeatedly, which made Jack feel angry, but he controlled himself. For this might be the first traveler Jack had encountered in a thousand lifetimes. Until now, Jack had either come across dying travelers on the brink of death or merely heard of them as legends in that world. This led Jack to believe that the existence of fellow travelers in the same world was unacceptable, making the world itself peculiar. However, in his 478th life, he had encountered travelers who were already in the same world, but unfortunately, he hadn't spoken to them much as they were already on the brink of death due to old age, only to be reborn again. In some worlds, he had found numerous travelers who lived in the same period, making him believe that the problem wasn't with the world or the travelers, but with himself. Perhaps it was a curse that prevented him from meeting other travelers. But this seemed to have changed in this world.

Another person here wasn't from this world, and of course, that excited Jack. However, the wretch seemed to have lost his mind. Jack sighed and decided to focus and understand what this companion was saying. He closed his eyes and concentrated hard on the words, trying to translate them despite their incoherence. After some time, he finally understood what was being said.

"Where am I?... Who are these people?... Am I dead? Why can't I understand what they're saying?... What are they doing to me?... It hurts... It's unbearable... Like my soul is being destroyed... Mom... Dad... I'm sorry for leaving the sea.... Aaaah!"

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

That's what he was saying, with a tragic scream at the end. Jack couldn't comprehend what had happened to him, but judging by the intensity of his words and his condition, he seemed to have lost his memory and with it the ability to think. This would be difficult, but not impossible to deal with, if he tried hard enough. Jack looked at the patient and then thought of the possibility of others like him. The numerical symbols in their names indicated that there were many more like him. This companion here was 201, meaning there were a vast number of them. Jack paused for a moment in thought, then began to laugh quietly.

"Aha-ha-ha! This will be like a revolution! Ha-ha! The travelers' revolution, you damn bastards, just watch!"

With that, Jack decided what he would do: to liberate all these insane travelers and lead them in a revolution against this place while he burned it to the ground. But in that moment, he heard footsteps approaching from the end of the corridor, making him hide. He didn't know if it was the guard's colleagues whom he had killed or someone else. After contemplating, he decided to do something else. As the group of guards approached, a person in black attire, holding the patient in his white robe, came out from one of the corners. The man looked at the rest of the guards and noticed someone with a hat featuring a star in the center, and he spoke to him.

"I've got patient 201, sir!" The commander looked at Jack coldly and said, "Your name, rank, and division."

"Maro, Third Class, Division Two, sir!"

"Hmm." The commander looked at Jack with cold eyes for a few seconds before giving a slight smile and said, "Well done." This made the other soldiers momentarily confused before they regained their composure.

Based on the soldiers' reaction, Jack thought that this commander never smiles, but he did for me. Haha, this makes me anticipate a coming reward!

The five soldiers then took the patient from Jack. The commander turned to Jack and said, "Thinking that Experiment 201 managed to cross from Division One to Division Two makes me angry... Good job, soldier. Follow me to claim your reward."

"Yes, sir!" Jack replied, following the commander to wherever they were heading, while thinking to himself, "There's a chance that it's indeed a good reward on the way, and I haven't been detected yet. Or maybe I've already been discovered, and these bastards are good at acting. They'll reward me with dissection and using my body and mind for experiments... Oh well, whatever it is, let's wait and see what kind of rewards await."

Thinking about this, Jack smiled slyly, as if he were watching an entertaining show.
