Afarhaven-Book#1[Beginnings]
Just a boring investigation.

Just a boring investigation.

After cleaning the bike, I went to the factory for overtime work, if you can call it that. At the entrance of the factory, I parked my bike in its usual spot and prepared to contact the owner of the factory—an old friend who I worked for when I didn't earn much as a sales representative, when Emma needed a private tutor to help her, or for buying things for the house and family trips. In short, I came to this place many times despite not being a regular employee. When I was about to inform her of my presence, I received a strange phone call.

"Huh? Who is this?"

"Hello?" I answered the call after a few seconds of hesitation.

"Yes, hello, Mr. Asher Wilson. Your son, Jack Wilson, is detained with us for a simple investigation. Nothing really serious, just a few questions. Please come to the police station to accompany him after the interrogation is complete."

What the hell are you talking about? What did my son do? Why is he there? Many questions rushed through my mind as I felt worried, but I quickly composed myself and replied, "Yes, thank you for informing me. I'll be there soon." My voice sounded calm, but I was in a state of turmoil. I had to hurry and see what was happening.

With that, he took his bike and hurried to the police station, ignoring his work assignment.

"Ah, my head hurts." Jack slowly opened his eyes after regaining consciousness. The first thing he saw was a small white room and a narrow-dressed man sitting in front of him, examining some papers without noticing Jack waking up.

Ah, a policeman. So, I'm at the police station. Jack looked around and found nothing distinctive in the room. Then he looked at himself and found that he was bound with handcuffs, his hands tied behind the chair, as if he were already a prisoner there.

Well, this is strange. Since when do the police detain an injured person without providing any care first? Instead, they sat me on the chair and restrained me. And how long has this man been here? It seems more like they kidnapped and restrained me, and they're going to torture me.

As Jack pondered this, he felt that familiar old pain in his mind. Ah, does my old friend appear when I lose consciousness? It's not like they're really going to torture me, as I've already been tortured.

When the officer realized that Jack had awakened, he left the papers in his hand on the table and looked at Jack calmly.

"Hello, young man. Well, let's make things easy. I'll ask you some questions about the incident where we found you, and you'll tell us the truth. That's all."

The officer looked at Jack to see if he had any questions before starting the interrogation. Jack opened his mouth and spoke with a weak voice.

"Uh, Can I first get some treatment? I think my arm was severely burned, and some of my ribs were broken." Jack paused when he saw the officer's surprised gaze directed at him. "Your wounds have already been treated. Although our medical tools are of average quality, such minor injuries are not a big deal. Do you have a concussion?"

"No, I'm fine. I forgot about that. It's nothing," Jack reassured himself as he felt his burned arm and realized that it was indeed fine. When he focused, he found that every rib in his body had healed.

So, the technology is modest, but the medicine here is well advanced? I didn't notice it at first because I was very focused on searching for the silly secret organizations. Then Jack remembered his broken leg and found it interesting to see such an injury before entering the hospital. But wait, if the medicine is really excellent in this world, why are there still diseases? In addition to this weak body being an easy issue to solve, I will conduct further investigation upon my return.

"So, any other questions before we begin?"

Jack shook his head in denial. "Alright, let's start then."

Ah, the medicine is good, but the police procedure is too simple. Classic questions like your name and area—despite them already knowing all these things beforehand, they still follow this approach.

After several irrelevant questions, the fundamental question finally came.

"Jack Wilson, what were you doing in the explosion ruins, and how did you get injured?"

"I was kidnapped by the criminals there, and they tried to kill me. But then someone came and threw a bomb at them, and since I was close, I got injured."

"So, who is the corpse found near you, and why was it confirmed that he was killed by a weapon?"

"That..." Jack appeared confused and somewhat frightened. He took a deep breath and continued, "To tell the truth, when I freed myself from the restraints, I tried to escape. But that person intercepted me and tried to harm me. I don't know why he didn't get injured in the explosion, but he attacked me."

"I was very scared, so I grabbed one of the weapons I found in good condition on the ground and tried to intimidate him. But he approached me and tried to take the weapon. As you know, I'm weak, so I couldn't handle this power struggle, and I

"Hmm, I see. Don't worry, you made the right decision."

Oh man, is this person either bad or cooking something up for me?

At that moment, the officer's phone rang. He answered it and nodded while listening to the call.

"Alright, I'll take care of it." He placed the phone back on the table and looked at Jack.

"Your father has arrived, and he will take care of accompanying you."

Father, are you here? I thought he was obsessed with work. Well, it's good that he cares about his son.

Jack stood up with the officer, and they walked to the reception area, where Jack noticed his father, Asher, waiting with a worried face. He approached him, and Asher gently examined him.

"Are you okay, my son?"

"Yes, I'm fine." Upon hearing this, Asher smiled kindly at Jack before facing the officer. He spoke with him for a while, thanking him for his efforts, and then he and Jack left the police station.

"Whew, your day was eventful, huh? You always find yourself in trouble. That's not really like you... Don't tell your mother, but I think it's a nice change."

Jack smiled at him. "By the way, didn't you say you were busy with work? I hope I didn't inconvenience you."

Asher looked at his son and then ahead, confidently saying with a smile, "No, I'm not busy with any extra work today, so don't worry. Oh, I have an idea! Do you want to play cards with your old man like in the good old days?"

"No thanks; I just want to rest now."

"Alright, you're the loser then. I'll bother your sister to play with me."

When we arrived home, I went straight to my room under the pretext of resting. I sat on the bed and smiled a little.

It seems they don't like searching that area, huh? Jack took out a small phone from his underwear and looked at it with excitement, whispering softly, "Alright, let's get down to real work, shall we?"
