"Look at her! How pathetic she is. Being in that chamber all day long, playing that stupid pianoforte. Tell me, Elvira, why is your sister so useless?"
"Because that's what she is, Noen. Pathetic, stupid, useless vampire. I cannot stop wondering why our mother chose her for him. Why not me?" Elvira replied in anger to Noen, curling her fingers into fists.
Two of them are sitting in the front garden on the bench, talking about no one else but Darcia. Elvira's enviousness towards her sister reached no limits. Every move she made bothered her. But the thing she hated the most was that she was promised to one of the most powerful vampires in their world. Elvira had longed for him since the time she knew about him. Lullabies were written about him, and since they were newborns, they heard every possible song there ever was. Elvira found herself drawn to him. The cruelty of his character was the same as hers. She was absolutely sure that she would be the one for him.
The day of the announcement came when all the vampires living in the castle gathered to hear this excellent news. All the servants and guards were also obligated. No one could miss such a big statement. Darcia, standing beside her mother, Victorine. Elvira standing beside her father, Voltaire, who is sitting on the throne, holding his shoulder. But he always favored Darcia, even though Elvira was much stronger compared to her.
"Today we all gathered here to announce one of the biggest news of our century! Our ruler Nicodemus has chosen our daughter as his bride!" Once all the vampires in the great room heard this, all you could hear was the laughter of victory. Many other vampires tried to pursue Nicodemus, but he made his choice way before they could make any further steps. Marrying one of Voltaire's daughters meant constant protection and alliance. Of course, that meant a big fortune for the family, which they would never refuse, no matter who was the bridegroom.
The Valdis family is one of the richest in the empire. About the beauty of their daughters knew every existence. Living or dead.
Crystal glasses with special patterns and the letter "V" on the front were filled with fresh blood, waiting to be cheered on once they heard who was the chosen bride. Everyone present in that great room was very impatient.
"My second daughter, Darciana Valdis, accepted the hand of our great ruler for eternity! Not a single drop of blood will be wasted tonight, my friends. We will celebrate for a month straight! And drink blood till we are full, which might happen - never." He finished, and everyone laughed for several seconds.

Darcia almost killed herself that evening. She never wished to be married to him, and never in her mind crossed that thought. Victorine, on the other hand, couldn't be happier than that evening.
Since that night, Elvira has made her eternal life a living hell. With her accomplices.
Darcia never left her chamber due to fear of her sister and her friends. Her mother did not make it easy for her also. She needed to be perfect in any way and know all the skills that at that time could possibly be. Her mother owned her body. She couldn't even brush her hair because her mother was scared she would damage them. The servants dressed, and took care of Darcia every single day. Darcia's beauty was beyond her sister's, which is why Victorine chose her second daughter to be married to him.
Nicodemus visited the castle frequently, so Victorine hid every female vampire in that castle. She couldn't risk that he would like someone else rather than Darcia, not even her sister, who longed for him greatly.
She hated her with every inch of her being. She sought revenge one day. She planned it while Darcia was spending her evenings with him. She even tried to poison her, but the servants tasted every glass of blood or humans before giving it to them. Victorine was getting annoyed with her, trying to ruin her plans. Elvira didn't want her mother to be angry at her, so she stopped trying to kill her but never stopped harassing Darcia.
"One day, Noen, I will make her pay for causing me such agony. She will be unprepared and beg on her knees to spare her life, but it will be too late. She should just kill herself; that way she would do me a big favor." Elvira said and got up from the bench, readjusting her long black dress.
"Aren't you just so cruel, my princess?"
"Don't you like it that I am so rotten inside, my dear?" She asked him, and he kissed her hand in answer. Smirked left on her face.
"I will be by your side till the end. I will kill everyone who stands in your way. I promise on my life." Noen claimed. They had been friends for years, but this was the first time Elvira had seen this side of Noen. Noen seemed determined, and there was a glint of steel in his eyes. She loved what was coming out of his mouth. He loved her deeply, and she wanted to use him for her own twisted intentions.
Darcia sometimes watched them from her room and wished to have a friend too. Someone she could rely on. She was in the most agony, and no one knew about it. All these nights locked up with him were traumatic.
Her sister envied those long evenings when they were lonely together, but only if she knew how much her sister was suffering. Those nights with the devil. Crying for help.
Darcia longed for love from her family, but sadly, love doesn't exist for them. She erased that word from her brain because she knew she would never experience it. She could only read affection in novels. Enjoy it through her eyes-those empty words that weren't meant for her.
A broken soul that sought love, not suffering.
