Ch. 23 That Escalated Quickly

We spent the night trying to relax and rest. When we woke up, we immediately cleaned up and began our search for the Beedrill colony. We were as cautious as could be, not wanting to be surprise attacked. We walked in a line, Ferrothorn up front, myself a few steps behind her, and Malamar right behind me. As we walked, we saw signs of destruction.

It looked like a damn tornado made out of knives came through this area. Everything was torn up, and most of what was left of the local Pokémon was just mincemeat. The smell of rotting corpses and piss and shit from whatever released it made me gag as soon as it assaulted my nose.

We trudged our way through, trying to ignore the smells as our feet squished organs and snapped some of the thinner bones. I could tell we were getting closer to the colony because the number of Scatterbug and Spewpa bodies left mangled all around began to increase. After almost a full hour of walking through this hell, we came across our first Beedrill.

It almost immediately became aware of our presence and snarled at us, its eyes burning with hatred. It sent several Poison Stings towards us, which Ferrothorn took with no problem thanks to its Steel-typing. It then lunged forward with its stinger, most likely using Fell Stinger.

Ferrothorn used Gravity, sending it crashing into the ground before she jumped into the air and spun into a Tackle. The impact crushed the Beedrill's thorax, leaving nothing but blood and chitin left. I told the two of them to get ready for a right. I doubt that Beedrill was alone or that its fellow colony members would leave us alone.

Sure enough, a few more came from our left. Malamar and Ferrothorn handled them easily enough. While they were hyper-aggressive, they weren't very strong. We trekked towards the direction they came from, killing any and all Beedrill that came our way.

Each time a group of Beedrill attacked us, there was an extra one or two to the pack. After a few waves, one Beedrill made it past Ferrothorn. Malamar had joined Ferrothorn's side, using Pluck and Psycho Cut to slice through them. The Beedrill buzzed its way towards me, its fire-fueled eyes staring daggers at me.

It tried to cut me with what looked like a Fury Cutter. I twisted my body slightly to the right, my left leg supporting my body as I grabbed its thin arm with my right hand. I slammed it into the ground next to me, stomping down on its head. I crushed it completely, some blood splattering all over my body and face.

I had gotten into a few fights in my old world, but I'd been forced to fight like this. I never killed anything, not even bugs. I normally just used paper and a cup to move a roach or beetle outside. I let spiders be, occasionally talking to them while in the shower.

And sure, I handled meat while cooking with no problem and looked forward to my family killing a goat to cook its meat for a party. But something like this, caving in a head and seeing my feet squish a brain? If I vomited from just seeing the corpse of that Team Flare lady, this should surely fuck me up.

But I couldn't afford that. Not right now, my mind and body knew that. That's why I was already ducking under the next Beedrill's Poison Jab, dodging it while grabbing the large insect and caving its abdomen and thorax in with a bear hug.

From the pure number of Beedrill we've been facing, I think the queen was amassing an army. One that was currently trying its best to take me and my Pokémon out. We were very quickly being outnumbered by a LOT of fucking Beedrill. But there was no way we were going down so easily.

Once Ferrothorn and Malamar saw my involvement, they turned their own combat up a notch. Malamar, who could very easily take out each Beedrill with a single hit, became the Pokémon version of Achilles. He was mowing them down with Psycho Cuts, Pecks, Night Slashes, just about everything in his arsenal that didn't slow him down. I thought I also saw him use Guard Swap for some of the tougher ones.

Ferrothorn was also a complete monster against the Beedrill. I suspect a few Iron Defenses were stacked because she kept rolling around like a construction roller and making bloody pancakes out of any Beedrill unlucky enough to get in her way.

As for me, I was in my own little boxing ring world. The Beedrill were pretty weak, which explained why both Pokémon haven't received so much as a scratch and I was able to keep myself safe. Punch after punch, I bobbed and weaved through attacks while lashing out at eyes and wings. While my kicks and stomps were deadly, my punches didn't do as much damage as I hoped. I guess I need to train up my damage output.

Either way, we were demolishing the Beedrill, long past being bothered by the grotesque amounts of blood and entrails we were covered in. After what felt like hours, the queen Beedrill finally showed up.

My god, was she a monster. She towered over the rest, damn near 2 meters tall compared to a Beedrill's normal height of 1 meter. Once she showed up, the rest worked up a frenzy, trying to kill us. Malamar and Ferrothorn huddled up close to me, deciding it would be better for us to work closer to each other.

Ferrothorn did support, using Gravity to suppress the Beedrill and Leech Seed to slowly sap energy away from them. Apparently, Leech Seed also gave some of the energy to Malamar, who very much needed it. Ferrothorn also unleashed Flash Cannon for some long-distance damage while also taking hits for us.

Malamar was wiping out most of the Beedrill, using his moves to slash down any Beedrill that got too close. Any that made it past Beedrill got a kick or punch from me, sending them back out into the fray to get demolished by a Psycho Cut or Night Slash.

The queen, meanwhile, kept screeching out orders that seemed to buff up the Beedrills' speed. They became more chaotic the more she screeched, at times attacking each other as well. This single observation made me question the queen herself.

While even this type of aggressiveness could be expected from a pissed of Beedrill colony, they were very often not the aggressors. They would chase and kill anyone that trespassed into its territory or attacked one of their own, but never really crossed their own border unless an egg was stolen or the queen was attacked. However, the queen herself never did a damn thing.

To see the queen out here causing her species to get more riled up and aggressive was not normal for this world, from what I'd read at least. There was definitely something up with the queen. I guess I'll only find out by dealing with her, I guess.

We kept up our defensive offense for a while longer. Once the Beedrill numbers started to slow down, we became more aggressive with our attacks. I told Malamar and Ferrothorn to keep an eye on the queen. I didn't want them attacking her yet, I'd rather wait until there were no more Beedrill. But I also didn't want her biding her time to charge a powerful attack or something. So I went out to kill as many Beedrill as I could with Malamar while Ferrothorn had the job of beefing herself up as much as possible.

I lost myself in the rhythm of punching one giant bug after the other, soon realizing that there were only a handful left, including the queen. The queen seemed to have realized this as well, releasing a piercing scream before flying towards Malamar.

"Ferrothorn, tank the hit! Malamar, finish the rest!" I commanded, helping Malamar with his task. Once we got the queen , we could finally take her out easily. When I looked over at Ferrothorn, I saw her wobbling in place, taking hit after hit from the queen's drill-for-hands. The drills had a rusty color to them, which I believe meant she was using a Fighting-type move for each hit.

Despite Ferrothorn's use of Gravity, Ingrain, and Flash Cannon, she was hanging on by a thread. A thread I intended to preserve. I sent Malamar in, deciding it was best for myself to stay out of it. Malamar landed a Psycho Cut to one arm, removing it completely.

This only enraged the Beedrill, and it began lashing out more harshly. Its attacks kept getting stronger, and it somehow seemed to be getting bigger, albeit slowly. Ferrothorn, who was just barely holding on, couldn't keep herself conscious and fainted, causing me to return her to her ball. This turned her full attention towards Malamar and me.

"Fuck."

While Malamar was able to do a better job of avoiding hits, he couldn't land any now that this monster of a Beedrill's attention was on him. He was barely forcing a stalemate and would soon lose that. This was definitely way too difficult for us. As if noticing the situation, the Beedrill laughed. It sent chills up my spine.

That was not a sound any Pokémon should ever make. It was a deep, guttural chuckle that sucked out all hope of my survival. The demonic laugh shook me to my core and made me freeze. Unfortunately, it also made Malamar freeze. The Beedrill readied its stinger, aiming a Fell Stinger right for Malamar's chest and driving it forward.

A Pangoro then slammed into Beedrill, causing the attack to miss. This was followed up by a strong Gust of wind, which pushed it away. I turned to see a Vivillion and two Butterfree. The Butterfree both began flapping their wings and churning the wind around Pangoro, Vivillion, and Malamar. Pangoro rushed forward with boosted speed, slamming a flame covered fist into Beedrill's abdomen. This was immediately followed by a wind blade slashing off a chunk of the abdomen.

Malamar no longer hesitated, following that with a Psycho Cut to the head. The Beedrill was given no chance to retaliate as Pangoro, Vivillion, and Malamar showed no mercy and the two Butterfree interrupted every one of Beedrill's attacks with combined Psychics. It took another 10 minutes of this bullshit before the Beedrill finally went down. Pangoro struck the death blow, caving its head in with an Iron Head.

All of the Pokémon dropped onto the floor. They were all a bloody mess. Not only from being covered in Beedrill's blood, but from old wounds reopening in the fierce battle. I was shocked at how this battle went. Never in my life had I felt such fear. I could feel my sympathetic nervous system going haywire from all the stress hormones and adrenaline it was forcing into my body. However, one look at Malamar's intact body washed all of that away. Looking at Ferrothorn's ball, I was overcome by the joy of having such fierce and loyal companions.

I ran over to Malamar and gave him a tight hug, one that he returned just as tightly. After we let each other go, I pulled out all of my healing items. I was going to make sure Pangoro and the rest were also healed up before they left. I released Ferrothorn and treated her wounds as well.

She received the worst of the attacks, and because of it, received my utmost attention and care while spraying her down with potions and feeding her Leppa and Oran berries. We all rested together for a bit, sitting in silence. It was a strange feeling after such an event. But it didn't last long.
