Ch. 13 Training Montage

"Kay!"

"Flor."

"Ferro!"

Inkay and Ferroseed were on the floor, panting heavily while Florges floated as if she were asleep. Yesterday she had agreed to help Inkay and I. We started immediately. Florges used some of her weaker moves to force Inkay to hold back. Inkay's training consisted of piercing through a Vine Whip with Peck. The main focus was on making sure Peck just barely pierced through, which was more difficult than I thought it would be. Every time Inkay failed, he took a point blank Disarming Voice that was just enough to ground him painfully. With that, Inkay trained hard to avoid the painful sound. As for Ferroseed, her training mostly consisted of jumping a very specific distance or getting pelted by Magical Leaf for failing. Though I felt bad, I thought this would be great for them. It's almost like being able to apply False Swipe to just about any move. More importantly, they would be able to attack people without outright killing them. Two for one combo.

While they trained, I did my best to continue my own workouts. While I didn't have any weights, I could do a shit ton of push-ups, pistol squats, inverted rows, etc. I was mostly going for endurance; making sure I could exert my strength over long periods of time would definitely be useful on long adventures. I also did some basic fighting exercises. Nothing too fancy or organized. Just wanted to get quick punches in, a few 1-2 and 1-2-3 combos on a tree to make sure I could at least do something in defense. I would have to get a fighting type if I wanted to truly spar with a Pokémon.

After a few hours of their training, I had Inkay and Ferroseed come in for some good ol' Gravity training. I was able to handle an extra 5x gravity, while Inkay and Ferroseed worked out under 50x gravity. Ferroseed was having trouble increasing the power of Gravity, but she was making huge progress in duration, area of effect, and creating small spots of increased gravity. At the moment, she could use Gravity for about two hours in an area of about 3 m2. She could only cut it down to a spot about the size of a chair, which was still useful for trapping a Pokémon under. I really wanted her to get to the point where she could increase the gravity of just an arm or leg. Something to really mess up an opponent's rhythm.

Last night I went back to the PokéCenter for a quick healing and to sleep. I checked my supplies and restocked a few things before handing in the last of the Pokémon to the Breeding Ranch to finally finish the task. They gave me a large tip for the quick completion. I guess it really pays to get shit done. I also received a voucher for a discount on any Pokémon baby or egg, valid for the next year. Definitely something I'll take advantage of.

With the fresh supplies, I was ready to live in the wild. It was currently 4:47pm, a little late for dinner. I set up a fresh fire downwind from the garden, a pot of water in the middle of being boiled. I added some fresh meat, potatoes, a Cheri berry, a Bluk berry, and carrots. The Cheri berry gave it a bit of a kick while the Bluk berry helped make the broth thicker and sweeter. A simple, but good, recipe. I made a large batch of soup, or stew given how thick the broth was, to share with Florges. I don't think she, or the Flabébé line, eat meat, but I'm sure she'll enjoy the broth and berries in it.

Inkay and Ferroseed, who had stopped training and started playing with some of the other Pokémon around, sped over once they got a whiff of the food. I poured them a large bowl each, adding some dry Dark-type food into Inkay's bowl and a chunk of steel and aluminum to Ferroseed's. I also served a few small bowls of berries, potatoes, and carrots for the younger Pokémon, at least the ones that were willing to try it. Florges stayed away but didn't stop any others from approaching for a meal. I guess a meat stew is fine if they don't eat the meat.

I ate what was left, adding some more salt to mine before finishing it all. I pulled out my sleeping bag, setting it up for me to sleep. I stared up at the stars as Inkay and Ferroseed continued playing with the others. The happy sounds the creatures made put me in a very good mood. Sleep soon washed over me as I let myself get lost in the black sea of tiny lights.

When I woke up, Inkay and Ferroseed were cuddled up around me. I slowly let myself fully awaken, letting the rising sun do its job. Once I deemed it bright enough, I checked my phone for any messages. Seeing as there were none, I got up, waking my sleeping monsters in the process. Inkay gave a big, raspy yawn, still very tired. Ferroseed just hummed in annoyance before bouncing over to the approaching Florges. It was currently 4:53am, training started at 6am. I prepped breakfast while Inkay and Ferroseed talked with Florges. They apparently had something planned because Inkay had a serious expression and Ferroseed looked very determined.

After breakfast, both of my Pokémon rushed out into the flower field, starting their training session. Both were giving it their all, which seemed to be what Florges had wanted. They improved much more rapidly than yesterday. They might have had a breakthrough in their own methods, or they just needed to rest in order to stimulate whatever hidden training boost they received. Either way, I was happy. As for me, I was still practicing some fighting movements. Again, nothing professional, just the basics I needed to whoop ass when someone thought it was a good idea to put their hands on me. Back home, that happened more than a few times.

As I was practicing, a Floette came up to me. It seemed to be interested in my workout, so I asked if it wanted to join. It happily joined me, trying to mimic my movements. Without any feet, it couldn't exactly follow me. But it tried its best until it got tired. Once that happened, I decided to take a break. I shared some water with Floette and then an idea struck.

"Hey Floette, would you like to help me train?"

"Flo, flo. Floette!"

"Awesome. I need to get better at dodging attacks. I know a lot of you don't really like to battle or fight in general, but do you think you can help? You can use a weaker move and try to weaken it a bit more. I just need to get better at dodging and reacting to attacks. How about it?"

Floette looked a bit uncomfortable at first, but it gave me a resolute nod at the end. These Pokémon were much nicer than the Litleo.

With that, I began my own difficult training. I was hit by a few Tackles, and though they hurt, it was like getting tackled by a bigger guy. Thank god, or Arceus, for Floette's weak attack and the fact that it can restrain itself a bit. I was slowly getting used to the feeling of being Tackled by a Pokémon. A Vine Whip also landed, feeling quite exactly like a whip. However, Floette's Grass Knot was a whole new level of pain. I know in the games that Grass Knot was based off of the opponent's weight and that it was classified as a special attack. The pain it resulted in felt like an attack on my soul. It took several minutes to get myself to focus on my surroundings. It was almost like a bruised bone, except I felt the pain on a deeper and more intense level.

"Floette, that is a great move to test my reflexes. But let's save Grass Knot for the future, okay?"

"Ette!"

Once I rested enough, I got back into the dodging training. Each attack hurt way more now, probably an after-effect of being hit with a special move. After a full two hours of this, I had to stop. My body was too beat up to continue. I'll take solace in the fact that I was able to tank Pokémon attacks, weak ones, but Pokémon attacks nonetheless, for two hours. I doubt a regular trainer themselves could actually take me down. I really should figure out what the fuck is up with my body at some point. Maybe Calem could help me out. He seems to be interested in my activities, so might as well make use of that interest.

Inkay, Ferroseed, Floette, and Florges joined me for this break. It was only 7:30am, so we still had quite a bit of time. I talked to the group about random things, from my first day here (disguised as my first day in Kalos) to the reason I trained the way I did. I told them that while battling is an effective form of training, adding in weight and Gravity training would take advantage of the amazing physiology most Pokémon seem to have. I also mentioned that I happened to have similar effects in my training. This was the reason I was able to tank Floette's attacks: my body was optimized for this world. I was able to train my strength and body to the point that I could definitely take on some weaker Pokémon in an actual battle.

After the break, we continued with our training. This became our new cycle for the next several weeks. Wake up, breakfast, train, a small break, train, lunch, train, another break, dinner, relax, sleep, repeat. The first training session consisted of learning to control the strength of their attacks, led by Florges. The second training session was Gravity/body training. Inkay and Ferroseed knew what to do here, so I didn't need to guide them. I did guide them during the third training session of the day, which consisted of meditation/learning to stay calm during some *very* annoying interruptions. Occasionally, I had to return to Santalune City for more supplies.

I put a lot of emphasis on the training because I did not want to die so soon after getting to this world. So many trainers died because they weren't strong enough to handle a wild Pokémon they wanted to catch, pissed off a group of Pokémon after trying to take something from them, didn't have enough supplies to keep their Pokémon healthy, or were attacked by other trainers. I was not going to be one of those. Though me being transported from one world to another may mean I'm getting myself involved in shit whether I want to or not, I was not planning on being a hero like Ash or the MCs of the main games. That would be idiotic and dangerous.

Anyway, we spent about a month and a half out in the wild, going back to the city less and less as I found myself getting accustomed to eating wild Pokémon Inkay killed. I soon found myself ready to leave the flower garden. I was definitely going to miss this. It was a great lifestyle; spending time with all these Pokémon, getting stronger, enjoying beautiful views every day, something I would never grow tired of. Tomorrow, I was heading out to Lumiose City. I heard that Professor Sycamore was going to give a few lectures during the week and a battle tournament after the last one. He would also be giving out Pokémon to trainers that showed promise during the battles.
