Chapter 44 - Gone

Chapter 44 - Gone

James awoke to find himself in the same space he first met Humility. In front of James appeared Humility, only this time Humility had a weaker presence. “James, your time is running out. The forces of darkness are advancing faster than expected. I didn’t want it to come to this, but your only way to succeed is to practice the forbidden light, the first speak of origin energy corrupted by abyssal energy. You are going to have to abolish your already formed magic circle before you are able to practice. I will admit that it will be painful enough that you will wish you were dead, but you must triumph for the multitude of races out in the realms. This will be the last time you will see me. My energy is unable to recover due to interference from abyssal forces.” Immediately after Humility finished its sentence, the being disappeared, leaving James all alone in the dark of his dream. In front of James appeared a small, ball-shaped speck of floating light that brightened up the entire space, leaving a hint of darkness behind. James's dream was shining with a light brighter than the sun right now due to the speck. Once the light hit James, he felt a feeling calling out to him from the speck of light.

James's hand slowly reached towards the speck of light, and the closer he got, the stronger of a feeling he could feel from the depths of his soul. Touching the speck of light, James's head started to feel like it was splitting. The entire technique about how to meditate and use the first speck of origin energy corrupted by abyssal energy. “To cultivate the first speck, you must meditate in places with heavy origin energy or abyssal energy with a balance between the two. The best place to meditate will have access to both energy, but due to the improbability of the two energies coexisting without an outside force, don’t expect to find somewhere like that.” The next thing James saw was the ceiling of his room. His head was still pounding from the new technique he had just learned. Before James abolished his magic circle, he wanted to go back to the library and study up on the consequences and risks of doing so. James ran into his newly made friend Awin on the way to the library. Awin called out to James, “Hey James. What are you up to? Are you on the way to the free lesson every new member gets?” James was intrigued by the free lesson and wanted to question Awin about how to join it. Instead, for the time being, James told Awin, “Give me your member ID so I can call you for lunch and we can talk about this more.” Awin was visually excited but reined it in. “Yeah, of course you can!” After saying that, Awin taped his watch to James's watch. James checked his app to make sure Awin’s contact was added. After he made sure it was added, James said goodbye to Awin and kept on his way to the library.

Once James reached the door to the library, he scanned his member ID once again to enter. After entering, James asked the old librarian at the counter, “Hello, I'm looking for books on the dangers and risks that come along with abolishing one’s magic circle.” The old librarian was surprised that a new member that she saw for the first time yesterday already knew about magic circles, so she used some form of mana sense on James. Right before her mana sense managed to reach James, from the depths of his body came energy left behind by his master as a marking showing that James was her student. The old librarian was scared and immediately took back her mana sense in fear of offending the heavenly mage Merabel. The legends surrounding her send shivers down even the most experienced mage's spine. With a slightly shaky voice now, the old librarian told James, “You can find books like those in section B. You can reach the different book sections using the teleporter next to the right of the counter. One off the top of my head is book number 214 titled The Study of Magic Circles.” After saying that, the old librarian started to ignore James. Seeing the librarian start to ignore him now confused James, but he had limited time from what humility told him. Turning towards the teleporter, James started to walk towards it. Once he reached them and stepped foot inside, James was confused as to how to activate it until he heard a robotic voice come out of nowhere. “To activate teleportation, just think of the section you want to access, and you will teleport if you have significant authority.”

James thought about going to section B, and a bright light flashed, blinding him. After opening his eyes, James found himself in a new section of the library he hadn't been to yet. Stepping out of the teleporter, James started to look around for book 214 to start with and then see if any other book spoke about magic circles. While searching for the book, James felt like someone was watching him but wasn’t able to see or hear anyone around him.
