Chapter 129

Clara's gaze lingered on the final sentence of the letter, her hands trembling slightly. Wren had poured his heart out onto the paper, as though he had laid his soul bare.

This wasn't the Wren she knew. Her impression of him had always been of reservation and self-restraint. She never expected Wren to leave her a letter like this-one that stirred the still waters of her heart.

How could she not be moved? She was just an ordinary person among the masses. She too had emotions and desires and experienced joy and sorrow like anyone else.

Let alone the fact that this was the man she had loved for years.

Even though she had already chosen to let go and move on, her heart couldn't help but tremble when she learned that her feelings hadn't been unrequited all these years.

It turned out, they once had a chance to be together. So, their feelings for each other had always been mutual.

But why? Why had Wren pushed her away time and time again, hurting her like that?

Tears splashed onto the paper, blurring the ink. Clara's hands trembled uncontrollably, and she couldn't hold back her sobs. A sour, indescribable pain spread through her chest. She suddenly hated Wren.

If Wren had never come to find her, if he hadn't revealed these "truths", she could have kept telling herself that he just didn't love her. He had abandoned her simply because he chose someone he liked over her. Then, she could have let it go. But how was she going to do so now?

...

That night, Clara dreamed of many past memories with Wren.

She watched herself in the dream. Her gaze toward Wren shifted from dependence to admiration and finally to affection. It slowly fell deeper into his gentleness.

She was like a moth to a flame, diving headfirst into her love for him.

When she woke up, Clara was still clutching the letter, and there were dried tears on her face. Her eyes were swollen and aching from crying. Even without a mirror she knew her eyes were puffy.

She tucked the letter under her pillow and got out of bed to wash up. She still had classes today-reality wouldn't allow her to dwell in the past.

Last night's crying was enough. She would allow herself to let loose just this once.

Staring at her red-rimmed eyes in the mirror as she washed up, Clara decided she should apply some makeup to cover up. She didn't want anyone to notice. She reached for her phone on the bedside table after getting ready, and her gaze fell once more on the jewelry box.

She had never opened it.

Clara hesitated for a moment before opening the box. Seeing the familiar emerald green bracelet, she couldn't help but tremble slightly, her dong lashes lowering. noveldrama

Before Ivy came into the picture, Wren had always fulfilled her every request. No matter what it was, as long as it caught her eye, it would be waiting for her in her room the next day.

Even when Wren had distanced himself from her in the past four years, he never stopped sending her gifts. It was just that she was no longer his top priority.

She remembered casually mentioning the bracelet once. She had thought that Wren wouldn't take her words to heart, but he had remembered.

Yet, the more he did this, the more it reminded her of what had happened in the past.

Looking at the bracelet again, she no longer felt the affection she once had for it. She had wanted it so badly back then, but now...

She didn't want it anymore.
