We were to head out again on the next day on our own. What was the last time something went according to schedule. Well, yesterday, but such things don’t last.
A soldier stomps through the attic.
» Get up, be ready to move out in ten minutes, this is an emergency!
My team mates still beat me to our vehicle. I am starting to wonder what kind of police they were. They do not seem like detectives. Protective services maybe?
P: What is happening?
D: How are we supposed to know? You are the wizard. Cast divination!
We should really get a DnD round together and have the wizards play barbarians.
And this man does not deal well with being awoken in the middle of the night.
» ANY CREW NOT FULLY EQUIPPED RAISE THE ALARM IMMEDIATELY! WE ARE MOVING OUT BY SQUADS. POLICE TEAMS AT THE REAR!

Leutnant Müller’s boss has a bullhorn. I am starting to get why the locals, especially the immediate neighbors love us so much.
P: I am fully equipped.
And I barely manage to stop myself from displaying my newly assigned machine pistol. That would trigger yet another stern lecture on firearm safety, but regulations are regulations. To conserve special ammunition anybody assigned an automatic weapon to fire special ammunition must have a machine pistol loaded with conventional ammunition.
Our battle pad reports an incoming message with a distinct „ding“. We are living in the 21st century. Military briefings are coming via messaging service.
It is our turn to follow the lead vehicle. We are going northeast, which is not our standard route. Ulrike is driving, while Dejan is making sense of the message.
D: The local ritual has detected an intrusion within range of the town. We still have about 36 hours but as the military is already here it was decided to handle this with the forces available locally, if the first reconnaisance will show it to be within our capabilities. Two strike and recon teams are under way by helicopter. The military is on reserve and we are to be the looting team with all wizard and how many people, if any, they are sending by helicopter.
We have reached a country road and are accelerating
U: Does this worry you? So many intrusions and they are already resorting to forces not having trained together.
D: You are assuming that the intrusions are happening with a random distribution.
Not having gone far, we reach a field and circle the vehicles. It bears no crops, or we wouldn’t have used it. We need good visibilty especially at night. I get to stand at the triggers of an M2, barrel dutifully pointed outward, while I see nothing. Meanwhile our conspiracy nut has been selected to do the short range ritual to detect the exact position of the doorway. It does not matter if you suck at that. At so short a distance a ritual involving the door needs no coins. We are waiting for the helicopters, one of the soldiers wielding glowing sticks is waiting in the middle of the field.
