Chapter 20 - Aqua calida de tecto cadens

I was thinking about this in the wrong way. Designing and building a shower cabin into my car with the necessary plumbing and air ducts seemed a nightmare, when I considered the task in earnest. It is also absolutely unnecessary. It is not built out of conventional materials. It will not rust or mold in a few hours. Nor does it contain electronics or upholstery that must not get wet. Well, it does contain an entertainment system and a radio, but I can choose to exclude them, which keeps them stored in some kind of storage space, I think, when I reform it from the armour.

So I get in and let water rain from the ceiling. If I add fire quintessence, the water is cozy warm. I’ve parked it with the nose slightly uphill and have included a drainage grill in the rear emptying in a little ditch I’ve dug and here I go. Clean for the first time in days. Ok, in a few months I will run out of shower gel, but that will be then, not now.

DT: Putting up that flag really rules out checking out who they are.

RP: You are right, but does it matter right now? We would not go in either way, right? And a report would also just state that they are flying the flag.

DT: Sure, but …

RP: But what?

DT: This can’t be a coincidence.

RP: Right. But there is a reason fortress towns do a health check in a monster surge and have an isolated section and are provided with a stock of cleansing and healing potions at the start of a surge.

DT: Do they already have theirs?

RP: How am I supposed to know? Another team has that contract.

Z: You smell very fresh.

P: Thank you. Your smell is also enticing.

Z: I haven’t taken a shower in days.

P: Yes. I merely stated that your smell is enticing.

Z: You little …

She actually hits me on the head. That is one of the few parts my transforming armour does not cover. The explains her choice of target. It does not explain why I have failed to dodge as crossed my mind. Now, I cannot claim that I would in all cases be absolutely adverse to a lady performing … percussive actions on parts of my body. However, if the lady in question is under a lot of stress, fears for her children, is iron rank and has a racial strength boost, then I may be reluctant. It does hurt. She didn’t do real damage, but it hurts.

I ran into the problem of too much choice. I could just pivot on one leg, hop backwards, sway with my upper body. And that was was the dodges alone. After one I could take her arm with my upper arm and brace my lower arm against her upper arm and do horrible things to her elbow. Or I could punch her arm aside and go for vulnerable spots. It turns out that whoever wrote those books was not above the good old kick to the gonads or equivalents and did not suffer from reluctance to do equal disopportunity. In fact it even covers uses of additional appendages that have disturbing Freudian implications.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Just knowing all of a sudden how to combine a pull, a low kick and a sting through the eyeball into a killing move shakes you.

I need to get this under control. I stumble away and she senses my disturbance. That is a good thing, as she does not ask to use my shower. That would have been trouble. However my vehicle is copied from a real pattern, that pattern did not forsee a need to flood the interior. It has patterns for moving through all kinds of terrains, even including a snow plow. With the right kind of quintessence, it can do sonar and radar to move at low visibility. At higher ranks you can mount weapons. You can cook coffee in it, transport cargo, turn it into an ambulance and so on.

In fact I am planning to turn it into a ritual chamber now. But there are limits. I did the water from the ceiling trick by a direct command. It requires me to stay inside the vehicle. She would not want to understand that.

Dean is addressing the crystal.

The picture you showed my with your device depicts a flag indicating that the fortress town has been closed down and locked off due to an epidemic they have yet to bring under control. We don’t know and have no way to tell whether this is a ruse or a real emergency. In this situation my team has two duties. We need to warn the Adventure Society, the Magic Society and the duke of Greenstone. As this may be a ploy to trap unwary adventurers we also need to intercept Olutha, who is on her way to that fortress in order to requisition a mount to report the loss of the rest of the team to the Adventure Society.

Lidija, Stjepan and Zora are listening to the recording. I am lost. Pavol and Karolína are showing a strange impression. Almost as if they are feeling that they ought to understand.

After a translation I volunteer.

P: I should go for Olutha right now. I can fly and teleport. Then we can decide how to proceed.

Nobody objects. Lidija does an exagerated play of pointing at me the direction of the road and saying „Olutha“. They understand. I unload some groceries. Then I unfold my wings and teleport.

Z: I have to stay with my daughter and son.

KN: As do I.

L: I actually would love to go.

KN: He was in the village!

Z: What?

KN: If this is an infectious disease that comes from the village, he may be infected.

L: Not good.

Z: Provided there actually is an epidemic.

PN: Should we all take one of those potions preventively?

KN: How am I supposed to know?

I am enjoying this. The sky is an explosion of red, while long shadows are cast on the land. Were I wholly depended on normal eyes, I might have overlooked her. But I see her path and extending my aura identifies me, which she answers to in kind. She is surprised until I show her the photo. I suspect I could learn a lot of interesting language here. She knows why I take her by the hand.

She takes it better, but her expression is not dominated by pleasure.
