Interlude VII - The Forensic Technicians

Interlude VII - The Forensic Technicians

Two busses and four trucks are stopping outside the gate guarding the entrance to the site of a nuclear power plant. Workers in disposable hazmat suits and N95 masks wearing dosimeters are dismounting. A work crew is putting up big white tents. Another crew is running a hose to a nearby small creek. They are carrying geiger counters and multiple crates of testing equipment.

The work done, some of them don backpacks with precision GPS receivers. They look at tablets and lead a team each into the forest, accompanied by an assistant with a geiger counter on a pole. A few guards and people carrying plumbing equipment from a truck to the tent a hose from the truck the hose from the creek terminates at runs to remain.

At the spots the GPS bearers stop, metal rods are driven into the soil, flags attached to them and somebody takes out an expensive camera, starting to make photographs as if storage space were unlimited and free. The operators of the geiger counter on a rod carefully walk the environs of the rods and in a few cases stick pegs with red flags in circular formation into the ground. Other workers are unpacking metal tubes and large hammers from crates.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Crews in lines slowly walk the the environs of the poles kept in straight lines exactly oriented north to south by the GPS people. Each second person is bearing a crystal on a pole they keep close to the ground. The other half thoroughly looks at the ground. From time to time one of them lifts a hand, whereupon the whole line stops, leaving them an opportunity to look at the ground with a magnifying glass, often pickung up objects with tweezers, putting them into a bag, which the GPS bearer carefully labels.

Then a grid of wires is stretched across the location and at the intersections men with big hammers drive rods into the ground assisted by scaffoldings with integrated spirit levels. They retrieve inner rods from the outer rods, carefully label them and store them in crates.

Returning to the tents people in hazmat suits enter one side of the tent, while people with wet hair in disposable clothing emerge from the other side and proceed to the busses.

The crates holding the material results of the operation are loaded on trucks.
