Chapter 21 - Special delivery

As I’m about to exit through the secret doorway I realize that I have no idea where the address written on the note is.

‘Wasn’t there a map on the previous delivery quests we got?’

‘Good idea.’

I then walk up to the middle of the five doors and knock.

*knock* *knock*

*creak*

“What?”

Is there a map I could use to find my way around town?

He then seems to blush, only way I can tell is due to a scar on his cheek revealing the skin beneath his fur.

“Hang on.”

Grizz then turns around and picks something up from his desk.

“Here you go, I forgot to give you this before.”

No worries.

Grizz then looks around the room and asks:

“I don’t see the package anywhere, how the hell did you move something like that?”

Erm… Secret?

“Fair enough, however I will be adding transportation to your list of specialities, if that’s alright with you?”

Sure?

“Alright, just come and tell me if there's anything else then.”

Sure, later.

He then closes the door and I exit the adventurers’ guild.

Once I’m outside I do the usual, run across the plaza, find the nearest alley, and climb to the roof.

Now on top of the roof I pull both the map and the quest note out of my pouch and sit down to try and find out where this is.

After a couple of minutes I find where I’m supposed to deliver to box and head off while having the map slightly phased into my hand so I can see where I’m going without dropping it.

When I arrive see a house very similar to the one owned by the nobles that I delivered to previously, however they were in what would be the yellow district on the emblem, while this place is on the exact opposite side of the town, in other words in thee brown district.

Since I’d only ever been in the yellow district before I never noticed this, but each district seems to also have the same color on their houses as the part corresponding to it on the emblem, meaning the inn I stayed in, as well as all the other houses I had delivered to, were yellow, while this place and every house around it were painted brown, with the place I’m delivering to being a much richer color than those around it, as well as having just as luxurious of a garden as the nobles in the yellow district.

As I exit through the alley that I had descended from the roof into and approach the house I can see that this place, much the same as the other, had a lone guard walking around outside, but unlike the yellow nobles guard this one wore brown cloth over his armor rather than yellow or fish scale green.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

‘Now here’s the troublesome part, how do I get the box out of the inventory without anyone seeing?’

I look around at the nearby buildings and see that none of them have windows pointed this way, and that there are no pedestrians in sight.

I pick up a rock from the ground and use a spoon shaped construct, which I have now made thinner so as to make it easier to swing, and throw the rock to the other side of the guard, making him turn around at the sudden sound of the rock hitting the stone steps leading to the door of the house.

While the guard walks towards the steps to see what the noise was I quickly run up a little distance behind him, and when the guard turn around again after having made sure the noise wasn’t anything important he sees me sitting on top of a one and a half cubic meter large wooden box.

And when he sees me he gets really startled, trips on nothing and falls backwards onto the ground.

While the guard is trying to get up while looking at me I take the quest note out of my pouch and hold it out towards him.

After he finally gets up fully he takes the note and looks at it, he then walks inside the house.

When the guard gets back outside he’s followed by a teenage girl wearing a light brown dress and two burly men wearing brown leather jackets.

The girl then skips towards the box while holding the note in her hands and I can almost see hearts floating above her head.

The two burly men look exactly alike one another aside from some details on their jackets, and they follow her to the box.

*heavy breathing* “This must mean he got the necklace! You two, hurry up and carry it inside, I want to see what he thought of it!”

“”Yes ma’am.””

The two men then walk up to opposing sides of the box, however they both freeze when they see my head following one of them.

Hello.

“”””...””””

Although the guard had already seen me move, it seems he was still surprised enough by the text to become speechless.

After a few seconds the girl then comes up to me and hands me the note and a small pouch.

I take out what’s inside the pouch and see that I’m now holding ten gold coins.

I put the coins and the note into my own pouch and give the one they were originally in back to the girl while trying my best to look satisfied.

She blinks her eyes a bit in surprise while I get up from my sitting position, jump down from the box and walk back into the alley.

I rush towards the guild hoping that I will get there before the midday rush, however judging by the amount of people outside the guild when I get there I understand that I had no such luck.

Sighing internally I enter through the back door again, praying that at least one of the four people working here won’t be busy, and when I get inside I decide to open the door leading to the main hall of the guild to see how full it is on the inside.

There’s people everywhere, all the seats are occupied and and the floor was covered by people who couldn’t find a seat.

Or at least that’s what I was expecting, however in reality it was nowhere near full, although most of the seats were taken the floor was completely empty of people.

‘That’s odd. Then why were there so many people outside?’

I walk into the main hall climb one of the booths, when I get onto the desk I can see Cathy sitting on an extra tall chair and looking back at me.

Hello.

“Hello.”

I then hand her the note through the gap in the window. and she starts writing things on at least four different papers.

“... Alright, here’s your reward.” She says as she pushes ten gold coins back out through the gap.

Wait, they already gave me the reward in person when I gave them the delivery.

“That wasn’t the reward, that was a bonus. If people think you did a good enough job they can give you a bit of an extra.”

Oh. Fair enough. Also how come the only person I haven’t seen sitting in one of these booths is Hugh?

“Well he’s the guild master so he only does that when he really needs to.”

...

Cathy then opens her eyes wide and slams her paws on the desk, yet just like when she was stomping the floor in anger before it doesn’t create a proper sound.

“He’s the guild master! And he’s back! We need to go talk to him, now!”

She then runs out from the booth, however unlike what I was expecting she doesn’t use the door, rather she uses the hatch that the stool came out of before.

“Follow me!” She says and runs up the stairs leading to the second floor.

Once the both us get up the stairs I see that we’re in a small room with a single door at the end of it, getting through that door we enter a corridor going all the way from one end of the building to the other with windows on both sides and multiple doors in between.

We run a small distance down the corridor and enter the first door on the right, in there we see Hugh.

*snore*

Laying on a sofa, sleeping.
