On our way back I carry the guard over my shoulder with one of my hands while I keep practicing Solidification with the other.
Knowing that I have a problem with range I try to create a slingshot, however I get stuck immediately as I seem to be unable to make the solidified object rubbery or soft, instead the object just becomes as stiff as stone.
So since I can’t use a slingshot I try to think of any other simple ranged weapons that I know of.
I get an idea when I remember a sport from my old world, however I would probably need to use both my arms for that so I decide to wait with it.
So instead I just keep working on the pole, I try to make a large cylinder attached to the end of the pole like a hammer and try waving it around.
And, well, it’s shaped like a hammer, but… Well one of the reasons a hammer would be so strong is because of its weight, but this thing literally weighs as much as the air around it, making it not that good. So instead of a weapon that uses its weight to build momentum, instead I just have a big stick with a lot of air resistance, making it even slower than a normal stick.
So now knowing that air resistance is the only thing I have to worry about I instead try to make a sword by slowly thinning the pole until it gets semi sharp edges on both sides.
It’s… It's not really all that sharp, in fact the edges are about a good two or three millimeters thick.
Well, no matter how sharp it was I would never have enough strength in these plushy arms to cut through metal armor, if they have leather armor I may be able to pierce it with a thrusting attack, while if they’re someone who doesn’t wear armor at all, like goblins, I could probably cut off a lot of things with it.
One good thing though, is that even if this were to break or to get worn edges then I can just make a new one immediately.
At this point we reach the gate of the city and I spy the lizard man who helped me deal with the guard over my shoulder last time.
‘He looks really pissed off though…’
The lizard man keeps looking around, with a really annoyed look on his face, until he sees me with the guard on my shoulder approaching.
Once he does, he immediately turns around and starts shouting at the other guards, and then they all run towards me with weapons drawn, however when they get close enough to see me under the man they slow down a bit and put away their weapons.
Good day.
“Err… Yeah... good day to you too?”
He’s seemingly confused a bit by my easygoing greeting as he doesn’t seem to know what to say, but he quickly gets back on track.
“That man you’re carrying with you, I don’t know what circumstances made you carry him around but do you think we could take it from here?”
Sure, but should I come with? He kinda brought together a gang of goblins and attacked me due to having his rations cut.
“Wha…”
I must’ve accidentally stopped using Lulling Touch without realizing it as the man on my back wakes up.
“You!”
The lizard man's forehead is immediately covered with a number of bulging veins as he looks.
“I had LITERALLY just gotten to retire and start taking care of the shop, and then YOU decide to skimp out on guard duties so I had to be called back! Excuse me little fellow, but I need to grab this guy and bring him in, come to us sometime and we’ll get you a reward for getting this guy.”
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
He then grabs the arm of the guy on my back and drags him off to the gate while being followed by the other guards.
‘Yeah, good riddance.’
‘Alright.’
And so I do.
‘Nah, let’s go get the flower.’
And so I turn around and walk back towards the forest.
As we arrive and enter the forest I decide to try out the idea I had earlier.
I create a normal staff again, about as long as I am tall, and then I widen the last third of the pole to be as wide as a quarter of the staff, I then pick up a random rock lying about, put it on the widened part and…
*Whoosh*
Swung the spoon shaped object as hard as I could and made the rock go flying off somewhere into the distance.
‘Seeing that rock fly off like that, it reminds me of something… Oh shit!’
‘We forgot to get the proof of subjugation from the goblins!’
I quickly climb a nearby tree to look around for the lake, once I find it I leap from tree to tree and hurry into the cave.
‘What even is the proof for these guys!?’
At this point I get back into the wide cavern and quickly get the ears of all of the goblins, well, except for the guy whose head splashed into mush, his ear probably flew off somewhere but I couldn’t find it.
I then put the eleven ears into the pouch and exit the cave.
Now feeling much calmer I climb a tree again and look around for a clearing with a single tree in it.
“...”
Or rather I was going to do that, but then I spotted a small bit of ground sticking out in the middle of the lake with a tree and a single flower on it.
“...”
‘Is that a treant? Are they just big trees?’
I listen to her advice, create another giant spoon and throw a rock at the tree.
*Whoosh*
*thunk*
And we could hear the sound of the rock hitting the tree from over here.
Looking closely at the tree we could see some of it’s branches slowly moving down and covering the point of impact as it slowly bends over.
‘How do I even kill a tree?’
‘You mean like the spot that I hit with the rock?’
‘So the reason that it’s crouching down like that is…’
The treant’s bark then started peeling off of it, looking like a flower was blooming, followed by the inner would, eventually leaving a small, bright red stalk in the middle with a single bright blue leaf growing out the top of it.
‘I’m guessing that that’s the thing I give the guild?’
I then enter the water and swim over to the small mound, which actually felt very different from normal due to how much bigger my head was in proportion to my body, albeit not to the point where I couldn’t swim.
When I get to the mound I climb the red stalk and pluck the blue leaf, after which the red stalk starts peeling just like the rest of the treant’s body, the whole thing then quickly loses its shape and seep into the ground like some sort of liquid.
‘Uhm…’
I then walk towards the flower that I had seen while avoiding the ground that the treant had seeped into, and then pluck the flower and put it into the pouch.
Lizz then flies out of the top and hovers in front of my face while staring at me.
“Hey, couldn’t you just have walked over the water by solidifying a chunk of water? Or maybe make a small board of air and paddle over?”
‘I.. I… I didn’t think about it…’
TT^TT
“Eww! Stop it with the faces! They’re really creepy!”
ಠ_ಠ
*whimper*
As much as I like teasing her, she looks like she would start crying if I continue so I decide to stop.
‘Alright I’ll stop.’
I then walk to the water and try to solidify the water, with a fair bit of success.
*splash*
Well the success didn’t happen immediately of course, but eventually I managed to solidify some water in place to walk on. Yes solidify, when I picked up a piece it wasn’t ice, but it looked more like jelly, the water still looked like normal water, but it was hard to the touch.
Once I reached the other side of the lake I quickly send a wave of green light from the top of my head and to my feet, making all the water fall off of me.
Lizz then flies back into the book and I start walking back to the town, the sun still high in the sky.
