Chapter 7: Into The Unknown

Hiddey POV

Hiddey awoke from his rest just like any other day to the banging of the bell. He could already hear the Daughters of Mother banging kettles and pans to strengthen the noise and signal another day. Hiddey got up quickly putting on his cloths he left his hovel to see more goblins emerging from his hovels. He looked to the pit and he heard the stirring of the children as a bunch of Daughters were throwing pieces of meat and mushrooms down to them. A rope was thrown into the pit and a rabid battle for freedom ensured as the children grabbed onto the rope and climbed up as fast as they could many would grab and pull each other down to increase their chance of escape. Hiddey shook his head knowing very well that many more could escape if they simply worked together, after all that’s how he escaped, the clever ones would be taking the food and finding allies to help them escape. He turned around and headed to the market thinking too bad that having a companion outside the pit was suicide.

He followed the crowd close to the back to so that I could make a run if something happened. The crowd gathered around the market where Chief SttabbyStab stood with his advisor Bokeader standing close to the chief. SttabbyStab was an impressive goblin standing of four feet probably because he ate a lot of his competitors in the pit. His skin was emerald green and his cat like eyes where filled with malice and cunning. He was holding a rusty iron sword almost as big as him in his left hand. The blade was called The Glint because it was the shiniest weapon the tribe had. His advisor covered himself with a cowl only revealing his long ears and sharp nose. I wonder what he will say today, I look back at the pit and see that three children had made it out and where being shepherded to the ancient wooden temple of the Mother. Not many made it out maybe tomorrow there will be more.

SttabbyStab started talking and I turned back to him. His voice was loud and obnoxious as he talked “Today we are sending out scouts. The filthy Muggag have been trying to take the old ruins where the crazy madman is, I want to know why they are risking lives.” He looks at Bokeader “Make a scout group and send them out I want to know why the Muggag are active and why there have been less Muggag scouts on our side of the river. Send some pretty Daughters to my house.” He heads of with his elite gang back to his nest I bet he will be enjoythe Daughters companies, well damn the bastard he keeps them all for himself.

Bokeader turns to the crowd and takes out an elixir swallowing his speaks at first weakly but with every word his voice becomes louder and more confident. Probably a charisma potion, I wonder how he made it. Forget it you weren’t born lucky you’re a scavenger not an alchemist. I forget about my thoughts and start listening to him “There will be three groups one will be sent to the ruins, another to the Muggag and a third to check our lands. Those who join will get extra rations and those who do well a chance to breed.” Breeding might be fun but its not worth it I would get attached to the little buggers and most likely they wouldn’t make it out of the pit. Food is always worth it I need to eat there isn’t enough grub to go around anymore. I look around noticing that a few goblins had perked up waiting to join the scouts.

Bokeader looks from side to side and tells the crowd “If you want to risk your lives stay here, the rest back to work.” The crowd dispersed with about 20 goblins staying behind a good amount for the scout groups. We were separated into three groups each led by one of the experienced goblin hunters each level 30 or higher I heard chief is level 80 don’t know which classes but I can guess he has more than one combat class I bet it is Warrior and Berserker with the way he fights. I open the the Blue.

Hiddey looks back at the group already being separated Hiddey went to join the goblin scouts. Soon after he was put into to the Muggag scout group cursing his luck for the most dangerous job if he was sent to the ruins they could have just watched from a safe distance. With him being in this stupid squad he would have to cross the river and risk his life in enemy territory. This was bad but he mighty gets lucky and make it out of this alive and well fed. He looked to his squad leader Figgiht powerful warrior who supposedly reached lv 70 a pretty rare level only Chief and Bokeader were higher than 60. Figghit was a small goblin and had the body of a skeleton, with his left ears bitten of by a rival he is supposedly best hunter with him supposedly reached lv 50 with the Ranger class and has reached lv 20 in the Scout class. With him we might be able to reach the other tribe and survive.

Figgiht held his axe and turned to our group with a grim look as we were dismissed. He spoke with a strong but slightly amused voice “So you are under me?” He shakes his head and returns to his speech “Split up into two groups each made of six, one will be in front and the other a few miles behind them.” As soon as he is finished, he points out who will be in the first group and of course its me. I sigh and join the other five sacrifices as we are sent out first.

So, my group of dead goblins head into the forest of course Figgiht is in the second group so we have no proper fighter and we are heading to enemy territory. It takes a few hours to reach the river that separates the island between the ruins, Gargel and Muggag. The great river Wetty that has been stained by blood of both tribes since time immemorial or about last week when we lost the hunting grounds. Very bad day I cried as it meant no more deer meat.

Crossing the river is easy and know the trouble begins it will take days to stealthily reach the other tribe. We will have to leave behind markings on the trees to tell them which direction we are going. One of the younger members carves a arrow pointing north, smart following the coast will be safer we will only have to fight the Squiddies if we go that way. I head north with the group following me probably because I am the oldest and highest levelled group. I guess I am the leader for now.
