Chapter 3: Perspectives

Hiddey POV

The suns were setting as Hiddey stepped out of the forest he saw the village where his tribe lives. The village sits in the northern corner of the island, safely nestled on the edge of a cliff. The sea wave splash against the cliff, with seagulls flying high above the village long ago learning that the goblins would have eaten them. Hiddey slowly emerged from the treeline looking from side to and started walking to the gate with a smug grin on his face.

Hiddey banged on the rickety gate that stood almost six feet tall. With the loud banging a goblin jumped up from his sleeping position on the mud wall shouting, “What’s the noise for!” At the same time bending over to grab a hold of his bone made helmets and spear.

Hiddey looked up with an ever-expanding grin “It’s me Hiddey. I am back from scavenging.” Hiddey stood with an unearned aura of confidence due to coming up with the idea of pretending not to notice the Tallthing. The guard looked down suspiciously squinting.

“Where’s the grub?” Hiddey kept on staring at him as the rusty gears in his brain kicked into overdrive. A simple thought went through his mind he hadn’t found any food. He was too scared to look for food due to the Tallthing spotting him. Hiddey cursed the Tallthing once again.

Hiddey snapped out of his thoughts and answered “All the mushrooms were taken. The Muggag scavengers got their first.” Hiddey was desperately wishing he was right. Chief would throw him with to the kids if he found out he was lying.

The guard said with some venom “Let the Muggag choke on the mushrooms.” Turning to a group of goblin guards sleeping on the ground floor. “Open the gates you lazy bastards.” The goblin guard shout with some irritation. Hiddey was silently praying to Mother, thanking her for the good luck he was having. The gates creak open, Hiddey quickly squeezes through the gates and runs of to his hovel passing through the market. A quick look back at the gates shows the goblin guard didn’t bat an eye at him as he ran. The guard went back to shouting at his subordinates.

Hiddey reached his hovel that sat on the edge of the pit. The pit was a giant hole, shouts and screams of children could be heard. Hiddey looked at the Pitt a shiver went down his spine “I guess its feeding time for the children.” He turned back to the hovel and stepped unther the animal skin that he used as a door.

Kacper POV

I finished my project the bat looked sick with nails sticking out and a chain added simply for the cool factor. Sadly, I was an unable to come up with any good upgrade for the pads so that was a bummer. With a smile spreading across my face I look up to see that it is already evening. I notice the gigantic moon that seems to cover the sky. “Cool, but I probably should ask the goblin if I can unlock a class.” I turn around and that’s when I see him standing in front of me. “What the fuck?” I jumped back hitting my back on the edge of the workbench. With a grunt of pain, I rub my back.

The goblin tilts his head and spoke like a whirlwind of words “Apologies, should follow me I have cooked rat on the roof I prepared a nest for you.” As soon as he finishes talking, he is gone before I can reply. I sigh pick up my bat and try to follow after him. It takes me sometime as I must check every staircase and where it leads as most if not all of them are unstable and a second more important reason because I can’t bloody see in the dark, I was mucking around the bloody school. I finally open the door to the roof and see the goblin sitting in front of a fire he is holding a stick with an impaled rat kebab sizzling above the fire. With an irritated voice I ask, “Couldn’t you have waited for me?”

The goblin looks up his eyes shine like a cat which startles me for a second “You didn’t ask Tall Man. Do you want a bite?” He hands me the cooked rat “I already ate.”

I cautiously take the kebab and bite into it. The taste is vile but its better than being hungry, I slowly eat it and ask between bites “I don’t actually know your name.”

The goblin turns to me and answers "In my tribe I was known as Speak Quikly."

Halfway through a bite I look up curiously "My name is Kacper and can I call you Quikly?"

He nods grabbing a stick and he starts playing with the fire moving the soot and wood.  He looks back up after he sees me finishing the rat. Quickly asks slowly “You do not have a class?”

I nod “I have some weird class. It’s embarrassing I have the commoner class.” I look away in embarrassment throwing the stick into the fire. Quikly looks at me and chuckles.

“I will help you unlock your class lets start with your mana.” Quikly walked up to me and hit me on the head with his staff. “Mana is defined by your sanity. Sanity is hard to tell.” I notice he is having a hard time finding the proper words. “It is your minds ability to understand magic and manipulate. Mana travels through your mana veins a secondary vein that allows for the… I lack word.” I quickly chime in casting. “Yes, that’s it. Mana veins can be improved to allows for more mana to swim through. However, an overload of mana burns the veins and can stop them from getting better.”

I nod “What has that to do with me?” Quikly looks at me annoyed. He points at my arms and then at my bat.

“I can see that you have no muscle, so bad strength but smart to make weapon. I will train you tomorrow as, my bones hurt, and you do not listen to me.” Heturns around and walk to the other side of the fire and lays down covering himself with a animal skin.

“Oh, come on Quikly” my moaning is for nothing and after some time I lie down and fall asleep with the spare animal hide. With my bat close to me just in case.
