Chapter 43 - To Deal with Randomness

Chapter 43 - To Deal with Randomness

A few hours later I had a bedroom on the third floor roughly in the center of the layout. I used a medium sized preset and found that I could tweak it.

Thus the bed would fit me. Next to it was a toilet room, with a huge but modern model, and a separate bathroom with both a shower and a huge soaking tub, with waterjets, that could fit three of me. Gotta treat yourself with the fancy stuff every once in a while.

On the first floor, I setup a large commercial style Kitchen with walk in Fridges and Freezers, and every type of cooking device I could think of. I had Meowser handle ordering supplies to fill it. Now I needed a Chef, cause there was a good chance I was rarely going to have the time to cook.

Outside The first batch of One Ton Ceracrete blocks were placed to become the corners of the New Defensive wall. I had pushed outward quite a bit so I would have room for more buildings and a Grove later. The Blocks had been molded Lego style, with two pips up top and two holes on the bottom. The blocks were roughly 5 cubic feet in dimension.

I started 30ft Pillar Towers just inside each corner. These had platforms at the top that were for placing the Anti Vehicle and Anti Infantry turrets. Pillar Towers came with internal wiring and Ammo feed tubes (3 of them).

When they were done I had the Anti Infantry placed on the lower platform, with the Anti Vehicle turret on the higher level so it could fire over the other. The nearly 5000 yard range meant there were large overlaps on the fields of fire, between the towers.

My Fabricator and Printer had arrived a little after that and I had a Ammo Workshop built, Which didn't need the Build Kit just 4 of my Small Construction Bots and about half an hour. Even Hooking the room into the power grid was smooth. I got the fabricator working on the larger turret ammo, including the rockets, I got the printer working on ammo for the Bots, the point defense turrets and me.

We built an Ammo Storage Building just outside with extra thick walls. This room also had quick loading stations for the Bots and ammo load tubes that ran to the turrets. I loved that.

Then I set up a Multi-bot recharging station, just inside the new defensive perimeter wall. It was sized so the Large Construction Bot could fit in the Main Bay, it had four side bays that the medium Bots could use or the Swarmer Drone. It had eight bays sized to fit the Small Construction Bots, the Razior Bots, the Mule and the pallet Drones.

The station was durable and had a large power storage cell in it, once full it would be able to charge every Bots and Drone many times over. With my current power flow that would take a while.

Not everything being dug up was stone. I started a storage zone for, the admittedly small amount of ingots of other materials. Mostly metals like copper and iron. Which was a bit strange, but hell, I'm not going to complain about more resources.

I cycled through my options again, thinking about what I needed. Oh, look I can buy Construction Bots now. So that seems to be a way to unlock new options, I'd bet there were research methods as well.

"Argh! Could be something good, in the Guild Shop."

There were only three options that held my interest. The first was something I wanted very badly, Automatic Base Construction 50 GC. Shit! Time to save the pennies. All this laying things out was great in small doses, but I could feel myself growing frustrated with constantly have to go back and build the things I had forgotten. Maybe next time?

The Second item of interest was A Call to Arms for 5 GC, huh. Maybe a rallying marker or yell to gather minions? The Third was Infrastructure Baked In for 5 GC. Hmmm. I bought that immediately.

When I bought two more pillar towers to flank were the Gates would be, the costs were slightly higher but the wires and ammo feed automatically connected to the right areas. Alright. That would save a lot of time. Also as the Bots were assisting the construction all the infrastructure pieces were done much faster than before. Nice.

There was a basement, and I turned my attention down there. Actually, there were three sub floors that were where the old water works and storage areas were. Everything was bare now, all stripped out by looters, but not for long. We could fill it with useful equipment.

We put the large waste treatment room on the bottom floor. All the waste pipes connected right up.

Also some HVAC systems with Air filtration to keep the smells in check while also heating or cooling the base. Once again the Infrastructure was immediate and the Air intakes and exhausts on the roof were already optimally placed.

On the top sub floor I filled it with nothing but grow rooms, for both plants and meat. A protected food supply was vital to long term expansion. We'd have to get the seed stock and protein growing stock, from the ISL but Meowser came through, with a large variety of options.

On the second subbasement, we placed processing rooms for the raw food. The assembly line machines were kind smaller than I would've thought. Products from here would then be channeled to the kitchen walk-ins.

This was a great merger of science and magic. Maybe we can create whole new disciplines, for manufacturing, down the road.

Night has long since fallen. But we kept working. The Bots recharged as needed and I barely needed to sleep anymore.

I was getting hungry though. Meowser had ordered a few things for me with the other supplies, so I put threw stuff together into a 10 gallon stewpot and called it good.

By Morning's light the Wall was 15ft high. This wasn't great, as I could jump over that easily, but it would have to do for now.

Each Wall was 400 yards long. It seemed like a lot to cover but with the effective ranges on our weapons it wasn't an issue.

At some point, the excavating in the mine had hit a iron deposit and the ingot supply was growing rapidly.

[ You have gained 35,000 Exp.

You have gained 5,000 Exp from Minions. ]

That derailed me for a moment. What else?

Oh, we needed a way to block off the entry point.

So I stopped the mining and had those Bots work on making a Gate out of the Iron. This would be a temporary solution, as I wanted the walls at about 25 feet before the wave after this first one.

For now though it was a sliding gate with wheels in a groove and it locked into the ceracrete with large bolts. It was about a foot thick, so heavy as fuck. I could move it, but not easily and so could most of the bots. Eh, good enough for now. We'd fix it later.

They also built a cover for the mines to keep things out. Didn't want to have to clear them after every incursion.

We then built a series of platforms so the Bots and I could fire over the walls.

Then I bought four more Razior Bots. Two to a wall. That combined with the turrets should handle most things. I would be back up where needed.

We finished a Bot and Drone Command and Control server next to my room. For now this would be where Meowser guided the Minions from, later it would have its own dedicated V.I.

I made a chair and waited up on the roof for the timers to finish. I wanted a good overview, at least at first.

The rolling is new, new is often bad or me. A double roll could be terrible right now.

Two portals appear, AT MY GATES. Fortunately on the outside of them but shit, that could be bad for the incursion.

One portal is Green a deep rich dark color, it speaks of growing things and whispers of sylvan forests.

A lithe, tall Humanoid walks through.

I could feel Kinship even from here. They were going to be a problem though. Gloomrunners Elven Kingdoms took arrogance to another level. My Elven Nature might not be enough to get them to be civil.

He was armor from head to toe, a fusion of medieval knight and space age polymers. Not dissimilar to my own. His was black with no coat of arms, no marking what so ever. He had a slim blade, probably a Mageblade, and a rifle I vaguely recalled.

All I could do was try to talk. Fighting wouldn't go well, if he had the right spells.

I ran through every detail I recalled about the Kingdom of Idaho, not much. Isolationists, extremely violent in protecting their borders. They cultivated many paranormal plants and animals.

I hoped he could be reasoned with.

The other Portal was a Deep Red. The color was a restless bloody red and held hidden secrets.

Three Gloomy Pale Humanoids slink into this World.

Threat Level: 2-5]

Could be worse. The Darkness of the World setting could have thrown much, much more terrifying creatures at me.

Ghouls were half turned humans, right? But these seemed to be deep into addiction. They craved Vamp Blood, but any would do in a pinch. My blood would be ever so sweet to them. All such creatures loved the blood of the Fae.

My Turrets and Bots had them targeted. I ordered them to hold fire. I rushed to the wall.

"Hello There!" I called down to the Strangers. "What brings you to my Base this fine day?"

I didn't even get to finish when the Ghouls charged the Elf. Oof. They got pasted by a fireball and some BK-45 rounds. Over before it was a problem. The Red Portal blinked out.

"With that meager Challenge taken care of, I believe introductions are in Order." The Knight bowed. "I am Sir Rathiel of House Darnmei, currently a free sword." He gestured first to himself then to the Base "I was offered, by a mysterious force, opportunities for Adventure and Riches should I serve the Kinsman embattled in this World."

My mind ground to a halt. I was prepared for a lot of things but not that. Oh, it would be rude not to introduce myself.

"I am Victor Simmons, one who is Guided. I would be most thankful for any aid. While I can not offer much at this time, my Power and Lands grow by the day. In the Future, those that aid me shall be richly rewarded, indeed." Argh, that was good enough I hoped. I hated formal speech. But he's a fucking Knight.

"Well said, Lord Victor!" He took a knee. "I offer service till such time as I am no longer needed. So says I." His followers echoed him.

"I accept your Service and pledge to fulfill your needs as best as I may. Rewards shall be given for Valor and Commitment." Alright not bad for winging it I hope. I felt as the Oath snapped into place between us.

The Green Portal vanished.

He couldn't betray me. Couldn't! The very nature of Fae Blood would prevent it. Hahaha!

Of course, I couldn't fuck him over either. Not that it was my way of doing things in the first place.

My new Elven Mage Knight gave a cheer. Poor Fool.
