Chapter 34 - The Underworks part 7 - When a Plan Comes Together.

Almost a day later Captain Theo got me my Bots. He had decided to give me a set of four, matching Battlebots.

These bots were designed as individual units to cover all angles of fire. The favorite deployment method is to drop one into the middle of an enemy formation and go full burn on their ammo.

Let's start with the torso, an inverted three sided pyramid the bottom point connecting to the gearball socket waist joint. This was attached to a small triangular platform that the six, 4-jointed, legs attached to with their own gearball socket joints. Two gearball sockets joints for 3-jointed arms at each top corner for a total of six arms, two per face of the pyramid.

Two ammo feed slots run down each face of the pyramid, until the mid point of the face. Where they disappeared into the torso ammo storage. These ammo feed slots are transparent for some reason, but it's a neat look.

The "head" at the top, was made of a dome of Bullet Resistant Black Glass-steel. Under the dome were the sensor arrays, six cameras covering horizontal directions. One camera pointed straight up. Three pointed down, one per side of the pyramid. The only blind spot is straight under them. Usually not a problem.

Personally, I found them, while functional, to be kind of silly looking. But hey, I'd take what I could get.

They were about my height at while at rest, 10' when active. Good they could fire over my head if needed.

My biggest thoughts were just about how these are the Medium Combat Bots, couldn't wait to see the Heavy and the Super Heavy Versions. Hopefully, not shooting at me.

The Razior Ripper LMG are basically sleek angular SAWs loading .308. The receivers were attached to the Torso's ammo feed tubes by metal segmented flat tubes. Ah, made sense, built in belt feed setup.

Cpt Theo had gone above and beyond with the Drone request as well. 2 Drones, one a light and fast Mule model Loaded down with dozens of preloaded 50 round drum Mags of Incendiary Ammo.

I wasted no time and swapped out the mags in my hip pack and in my Baby. One thing that always worked on any type of Xenos was fire, with these rounds I'd burn them good.

There were also two crates of 50 napalm grenades. No, they are not really napalm, just the effect is virtually identical. I guess they kept the name due to brand recognition.

Of less interest, but still vital were quite a few large cases of .308 for the bots. I hoped it would be enough.

The second drone was KL1CK's bigger meaner brother.

"What the Hell?" I stared at its glory! Big Scary Spider Drone.

Oh and GreyCorp may just be my favorite existent Corp. First, my Lovely Armor and Now, a Swarmer of Doom! Ugh, did I really just think that? Awesome work deserves praise, I suppose.

10 spider legs, 4 multi-jointed Arms, 2 up front, 2 on it's back for loading materials into the production lines. Two Abdomens which are the production lines. Scary Spider Face with extra cameras in every direction. Badass!

Stood 10' at rest 13' in action. It was 15' wide at full leg spread, but it could if needed get through 10' of lateral clearance. Shouldn't be a problem as long as it's not slow.

Webbers are swarmer that explode leaving behind strands of very strong and incredibly sticky adhesive. They are considered very niche, but are in my opinion one of the best nonlethal options for the Swarmer Drones.

Put these two lines together, target gets stuck in place, then burn at almost 4000 degrees Fahrenheit, for a few minutes. Yup. Super Happy Fun Times!

Along with my mechanized squad, Cpt Theo sent word that the Construction Drones were done with the initial, setup for the traps, turrets and bunkers was underway. ETC 2hours. My nerves wanted to get going, I was shaking.

With Excitement!

Fear, what's that? These are happy shakes!

Oh yes! We were going to have some great times!

Visions of my new Robo-Squad mowing down enemies filled me with glee.

I might have been rubbing my hands together like a certain rich animated character chanting, "Good, Good."

Meowser slipped into the role of Command and Control over the Bots and Drones. He liked it!

"Nya!"

Now, I just have to keep him from going all Horizonnet on us fleshy folk. I really am starting to question the "Virtual" designation.

Marching order was me, Two of the Razior Bots, Mule Drone, Big Scary Spider Drone, the other two Razior Bots.

We headed to the Eastern Trap Site (ETS). I left my metallic posse at the entry point and worked my way to the Bait Room. I checked on the readiness of the defenses.

Everything looked solid. One change they made was to fill in the unneeded areas with Ceracrete instead of Welded Plates. Probably a smart move.

I set up a timed release capsule that I filled with Xenos specific rank V Honey. I had assembled and then filled up a ridiculous amount of these over the last day, I left half of them with Cpt. Theo. They should keep for a long time if them aren't opened.

We swiftly marched to the Western Trap Site (WTS). Repeat process and then to the North Trap Site (NTS) to do it again. This took maybe 6 six hours altogether.

I had synced the Bait Capsules to open in another six hours.

So we stopped at an intersection two north of the NTS and hooked up the Bots and Drones to top off their power while I munched on tasteless ration bars. Not as filling as I needed anymore. It would have to do.

Charging everyone to full took lees than two hours.

We struck off to the East, that's the general direction the Gammas had come from. It might not mean anything, they roamed as far as needed to find new prey, but it was a place to start.

Four hours later we came across a squad of Ghouls. The front Razior bots and I inflicted heavy casualties upon them.

Their return fire did diddly squat. (AN: This might be unfamiliar to younger folks and non English speakers, it means it did nothing.)

The exchange lasted maybe two minutes the surviving Ghouls running off towards the south.

Most conflicts down here are like knife fights, close quarters, almost no cover or concealment. They are over quickly as well, you barely have time time to register you are in a fight before it's done, one way or the other.

I was starting to feel sorry for the Ghouls, just a bit. The Xenos were going to carve through them like butter.

Then I remembered their cabalistic ways and said, "Fuck 'em" They deserve the Xenos. I winced at the thought. Maybe too far.

Since the capsules at the Traps should have opened. I decided to do some testing.

I setup at an intersection. A Razior bot in each corner, that meant they could cover two halls at a time as well as the center if needed.

I put the Mule drone in the charging station room. Had Meowser lock the room down.

I had the Swarmer Drone set up right in the middle of the intersection already pumping out some swarmers in standby mode. I was going to sit on the Swarmer's back. Once, I set the bait.

I produced a tenth of an ounce of Level V Xenos Focused Honey and dabbed it on the ground right under the Drone.

I didn't want them all coming here. I just wanted to see where more of them came from to give me a direction that their hive might be in.

In less than ten minutes, I heard the first screeches.

"This shall be a Day of Wrath..." I chanted to myself. I rocked slightly, eagerness building.

I kept my Kraken stowed, any misfire could damage my bots. The Avenger Mk II would have to do for now.

Plus, this was really a shake down of the bots, to see how well they could manage a swarm of filthy Xenos.

The first asshole came charging down the hall. A Ripper went Brrrr. Dead Xeno.

More started to trickle in, the Bots fire coordination was perfect, each taking turns to conserve ammo. Their aim was perfect often killing multiple Gammas in one squeeze of the trigger.

When the first Xenos crossed 75 yards away the swarmers got into the act.

Brrrr-Brrrr occasionally punctuated with soft POPs.

What would the final count be?

The answer was...

I might as well not have been here.

The Bots had laid down concentrated fire from first contact.

The Xenos had run right into it maddened by the bait, uncaring of the death that awaited them. Their usual low cunning forgotten.

When the last one fell, still 50 yards from the intersection, I admit I'd felt a little cheated.

I shifted through the bodies. They had come at us from all directions so I took a tally. More had come from the East. So East it was.

We Charged up, them on electricity me on ration bars. I topped off their ammo. Meowser hacked into the printers in the drone room to print out ammo, so I didn't have to cut into our own supplies.

You know the drones down here must be programmed to avoid contact. I still haven't seen a single one, that wasn't Underdweller Market aligned. Hmm.

I also tried loading up a Xenos corpse into the Swarmer Drones production line. It had to expunge the blood, but the rest of it the bones and chitin-esque skin even the meat was full of useful minerals. It would do in a pinch.

Huh, Draconian. I like.

The Honey lost it's potency over time, the more of it there is the longer the effect lasts. A tenth of an ounce lasted about half an hour.

The 5 ounces in each capsule should last roughly 25 hours.

That would be a lot of dead Xenos.
