CHAPTER 153 – FALL OF THE DRAGON LORDS

HIRAYA MISTELTEIN

“No… Earvin….” I muttered in awe, my voice trembling with a mix of shock and disbelief.

Just like that, the vampire prince was felled by the enigmatic figure wielding the Eye of Deus. He had used silver weapons, their gleaming surfaces glinting ominously, to ensure that an immortal vampire like Earvin was killed for good.

“A-Ack….” Gaeun cried, but no sound emerged from her throat. Her vocal cords had been destroyed in the earlier explosion, and now, desperation in her eyes, she attempted to crawl towards the remains of Earvin.

The mysterious man then turned, his crimson eyes locking onto Gaeun who was struggling on the floor. As he raised his blade to deliver the final blow to the dying dragonoid, I pushed myself to the limit, flying as fast as I could to intercept him.

“Not so fast!” I roared, my voice echoing through the grand hall as I launched a flying kick towards the mysterious man with cracked skin. He was hurled across the room, crashing violently into the wall with a thunderous impact.

Immediately, I activated my healing magic, placing my hands gently on Gaeun’s bleeding throat. Right now, all I could do was stem the flow of blood. Gaeun clutched me tightly, her tear-filled eyes brimming with sorrow and pain.

“Ack…Aahck!” Gaeun cried again, the guttural sounds a tragic reminder of her ruined vocal cords.

“Don’t speak, Gaeun,” I said, tears welling up in my eyes as well. “Just… rest.”

Around us, the battle raged on. The Trailblazer Dragon unleashed searing blue lasers, the beams cutting through the air and piercing the hearts of thirty skysoldiers. Johnny, with his crimson Wings of Light activated, slashed through his fellow skysoldiers with his werewolf claws, each strike precise and deadly. The Warflame Dragon transformed its metallic arm into a roaring gatling gun, its relentless fire mowing down the advancing humans.

We were holding back our firepower. The confined space of the hall, filled with innocent civilians, prevented us from unleashing our full strength. The Panzer Dragon was using its energy barrier to shield a group of terrified people, its shimmering aura a beacon of hope amidst the chaos. We couldn't afford to go all out with so many lives at stake in this bloodbath.

I glanced back at the throne room. There, the King of Humanity, Arthur, sat on his ornate throne, a smile of twisted amusement playing on his lips as he watched the carnage unfold before him. The emperor was unguarded, his confidence apparently unshaken. Despite the skysoldiers pouring in as reinforcements through the shattered ceiling, no one stood by to protect their ruler.

Once I had sealed Gaeun’s wound, I scooped her up and boosted forward, heading towards the safety of the Panzer Dragon’s energy barrier. As I slipped beneath it, I saw other civilians huddled together, their faces etched with fear, and among them, the elven village elder of Yggdra.

“Please continue treating her wound, Elder,” I implored, my voice urgent.

“Will do,” the elder elf replied, his hands already moving with practiced precision. “Are you going to fight out there?”

“Yes. They need me,” I said, tapping the elder’s hand in reassurance. “Once we open up a way, run as fast as you can and take as many civilians with you.”

“Okay,” the elder said, determination in his eyes.

I reactivated my Wings of Light and soared upward, reaching the Panzer Dragon’s ear in a swift, graceful arc.

“Charlotte, Darlix, can you aim at the emperor?” I called out, my voice cutting through the din of battle.

“Yes,” the Panzer Dragon answered telepathically, its voice resonating in my mind. “Are we going to…”

I clenched my fist, feeling the weight of our decision. “We have no choice. Arthur has already started it. We have to end this.”

“Roger,” the Panzer Dragon responded, its tone grim.

The Panzer Dragon slightly turned, its two massive cannons swiveling to aim at the new emperor of humans. Inside the cockpit, Darlix adjusted the power levels on his HUD, his fingers flying over the controls with practiced ease.

“Energy levels critical. Railgun shells loaded and all green. Locked onto the target,” Darlix announced, his voice steady. “Fire!”

At his command, the railgun shells erupted from the Panzer Dragon’s cannons, piercing through the energy barrier with a deafening roar. They streaked towards the throne where Emperor Arthur sat, unmoved and unflinching. He did not attempt to avoid the impending attack, nor did he command his skysoldiers to intercept the shells. Instead, he merely smiled, a look of condescension etched across his face.

“Fools,” Arthur muttered under his breath.

As the railgun shells reached him, an invisible barrier suddenly sparked to life, intercepting the attack. The shells were then reflected back towards the Panzer Dragon, accelerating to double their initial speed.

“What the—” Darlix cried out in disbelief.

In an instant, the shells slammed into the Panzer Dragon’s head, the impact ripping through its armor and blasting a massive hole straight to the forehead where the cockpit was located. A shockwave radiated outwards, followed by a secondary explosion. The immense damage forced the Panzer Dragon to revert to her humanoid form, her powerful frame crumpling from the force.

As the explosion’s blast subsided, I saw Charlotte’s left eye reduced to a bloody mess, her face a gruesome testament to the devastating force. But she was luckier than her lover, Darlix, whose shattered remains were strewn across the wreckage.

“Ah, I can’t see out of my left eye. Darn it,” Charlotte muttered, pressing a trembling hand to her bleeding face. Her eyes then widened in shock and horror as they fell upon the scattered remnants of Darlix. “No! No! Darlix, no!” she cried, collapsing to her knees as she desperately clutched his lifeless head and shoulder.

I froze in fear, a cold dread settling in my bones. It was my command that had led to this. I had ordered the attack on the human emperor, leading to the firing of the railcannon. And now, because of me, Charlotte had lost her eye, and Darlix was dead. It was all my fault.

“How dare you, you bastard!” The Warflame Dragon’s telepathic shout echoed in my mind, filled with fury and grief.

Manifesting a flaming steel sword from its mechanical arm, the Warflame Dragon dashed forward towards the unguarded King of Humanity. With a roar of rage, she raised her blazing weapon, intent on cleaving the emperor in two.

“No! Kate!” I screamed, reaching out in desperation, but it was too late.

As the flaming blade descended, an invisible barrier flared to life, deflecting the attack effortlessly. In the blink of an eye, the Warflame Dragon’s mechanical arm, wings, and right leg were sliced off, leaving charred stumps in their place.

“Aaaaaargh!” The Warflame Dragon’s agonized cry filled the hall as she crashed to the ground, her form reverting to that of a grievously wounded humanoid.

Kate lay crippled, her right arm and leg severed, unable to stand. The severe damage had brought her to the brink of unconsciousness.

“Kate! Stay with me! Stay with me!” Mariko cried, her voice choked with emotion as she frantically began using her healing magic on Kate’s mutilated limbs. “Hold on, Kate!”

Meanwhile, the King of Humanity, Arthur, stood up from his throne with an air of unshakable confidence. He descended the steps slowly, each movement deliberate, and pulled a sleek pistol from his sleeve. He cocked it with a chilling calmness, then aimed it at the back of Mariko’s head.

“Mariko! Get out of there!” I cried out in desperation, drawing my pistol and firing Healing Arrows towards Arthur.

I had hoped Arthur’s barrier worked similarly to the Magitech Dragon’s, where reversing cause and effect allowed healing attacks to work. But I was wrong. The arrows had no effect, dissipating harmlessly against the invisible barrier.

“Don’t waste your strength,” Arthur said with a cruel smile, then pulled the trigger. The shot rang out, echoing through the hall, and Mariko dropped dead on the floor. Her blood pooled and crept towards Kate, staining her shocked face.

“Mariko!” Kate wept, her voice a mixture of rage and sorrow. “You bastard!”

“No…” I cried, my heart breaking as I lowered my weapon. Despair washed over me. How could we defeat an enemy like this?
