After opening the door, Kan could see that the best fighters had been gathered within the mayor’s house. All of them were currently talking and discussing over the plan to deal with the attack. The mayor clapped his hands and silenced everyone in the room before speaking.
“Let’s run through the plan again. If there are any questions, please ask after i’m done speaking. First off, our plan is to run away using Claire’s teleportation. Our goal is not to defeat the enemies, our goal is to run away. The villagers will act normal until the alarm bells are signalled. Once the bells are signalled, the villagers will all gather up within the plaza and we will protect them until the teleportation is started. And once again to remind all of you, there will be traitors from the enemies side that will join us to fight. Does anyone have any questions.”
“I do. Why don’t we just activate the teleportation formation and escape right now.”
The others in the room started to agree with this opinion. ‘Why did they have to wait for the enemy to attack. They should just run right away.’ Most of the villagers were thinking the same thing.
“It’s not as simple as that.”
“Let me explain mayor.”
The mayor was beginning to explain the circumstances, but Claire interrupted him. It was better for her to explain since she was the one who created the teleportation formation.
“We can’t run away immediately because the teleportation formation isn’t complete yet. In reality, I would need another 3 years for the formation to be complete. Since yesterday, I have been rushing to complete the formation, but there’s no chance for me to finish it by today. I want to fine tune the formation as much as possible, to make it as safe as possible. If we try and activate the formation right now, I don't know what may happen. Worst case scenario, your body will be shredded into pieces as you are being teleported.”
The room turned silent as no one continued to complained about activating the formation. None of them wanted to be minced into lumps of meat as they are teleported.
“Ok, let’s get back into topic. Since we are going to teleport away from the village be ready to prepare only the necessities. Don’t bring anything you don’t need.”
The mayor continued to speak to everyone in the room. Kan watched and listen, but he was interrupted by a voice.
“There you are Kan. Let’s go, Mommy and Daddy need to talk to you.”
“Ok, Mommy.”
Kan walked behind Claire as they went to another room. Claire opened the door and there was Clive sitting on the bed preparing 3 backpacks. Two of the backpacks were larger while the third one was smaller. The one thing they all had in common though, was that they were all filled up.
Kan could sense that the atmosphere in the room was tense. The look on his father’s face was grim and he was dressed to battle. He was wearing light armor that protected his body, and his weapon of choice were gauntlets. Kan had never seen his father use a weapon before, whenever they were training he just fought bare handed.
“Hey Kan, how are you feeling?”
“Ok.”
“Good. Don’t be afraid of what's going to happen today, ok. Daddy and Mommy will protect you.”
“Yeah, Mommy won’t let anyone harm you.”
Kan felt warmth in his chest. He was happy that his parents cared so much about him, but he didn’t just want them to protect him. He wanted to be the one to protect them even if he knew he was still too weak.
“Mommy and Daddy, i’ll protect the both of you. If any bad guys come around, i’ll punch them straight in the face and send them flying away.”
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“Hahaha, that’s my son. Send all of them flying away.”
“Haha, i’ll be counting on you Kan.”
The room in lightened up just a little bit after Kan’s declaration. Both Clive and Claire were relieved at seeing how spirited Kan was.
“Do you remember your role Kan.”
“Yes, I do. My role is to help evacuate the villagers while the teleportation formation is activating.”
“Good, and what do you do when the formation is almost done?”
“Immediately go and find Mommy or Daddy.”
“Yes, and why must you do that.”
“So I won’t get separated from Mommy or Daddy.”
“And what should you do if you are separated from Mommy or Daddy during the teleportation?”
“I should first find safety and eventually make my way to the City of Fireflies.”
“Haha, close but not quite. It’s not the City of Fireflies, it’s Firefly City within the Kingdom of Freedom. What are you to do when you arrive in Firefly City?”
“Look for a house that coos at the rise of the sun and howls during the night. Or I should look for someone named Kevin Sueden.”
“Good, you remember everything I told you. Let me remind you that Kevin Sueden is a close friend of your grandfather, Jonathan. If you meet him, tell him that you’re the son of Clive Lock and the grandson of Jonathan Lock. And if he is still suspicious then show him the royal seal, and tell him that you’re the son of Claire Renner. It’s been a long time since I met Kevin, but there is one distinct feature about him, a scar on his chest in the shape of a circle. Got it memorized.”
“Yes.”
Firefly City and Kevin Sueden were both familiar names to Kan. These two names had popped up when Jane had talked about how she met Nicole. The only question that bothered Kan was who Kevin was. Maybe he was overthinking it, but was it really a coincidence that Jane had met his grandfather and Kevin. Was it just a coincidence that Jane was led to the village of Clear View. It all seemed to align too perfectly.
“Daddy, who is Kevin?”
“Well, Kevin is your grandfather’s close friend. I had only met him a few times, but your grandfather always said that if I was ever in trouble then I should find Kevin. Your grandfather didn’t trust others too much, but those he did, he trusted them with his life. And Kevin was one of those people he trusted with his life. From what I knew, Kevin was an informant who was part of an organization that dealt with every single country.”
‘An informant who dealt with every single country.’ Hearing this Kan began to think of another organization that dealt with every single country, Revolutionary Arms. The chances of Kevin being a part of Revolutionary Arms was high.
“Kan, Mommy and Daddy have presents for you.”
“Presents?”
“Here, Mommy’s present is a bracelet. Mommy didn’t have enough time to make something better, but this bracelet will help you against magic attacks. Activating the seal within the bracelet will create a barrier that will lessen the power of magic attacks.”
The bracelet was simple in design. It was an iron bracelet with a streak of blue that went around the bracelet, but Kan could feel the mana emanating from it.
“Thank you Mommy.”
“And my present is some of my condensed energy. If you’re ever in a dangerous situation, absorb some of the energy from this and you’ll be able to use the power of a combat locksmith at 45%. But be careful though, there is only enough energy for it to be used 3 times. So only use it when your life is truly in danger.”
The condensed energy was cylindrical in shape and had a golden glow to it. Like the bracelet that emanated mana, the condensed energy emanated intense energy.
“Thank you Daddy.”
Kan was grateful for the presents. Both of these gifts gave off very strong auras, but they felt very familiar. Just like Jane’s necklace, these two gifts emanated the warm auras of his parents.
But considering the timing and the situation, these gifts made him feel sad. Similar to Don who gifted the chain as a gift as part of his legacy, his parents were also leaving their legacies with him. He didn’t like it. It was like his parents were saying goodbye to him forever. He didn’t want to be separated from them, he wanted them to stay together forever, but he had to accept the gifts.
“T-thank you.”
“K-Kan!?”
“Why are you crying?”
The tears streamed out of Kan’s eyes. He couldn’t stop them.
In that moment the sound of thunder was heard and a flash of lighting was seen.
“That was some intense lighting wasn’t it Kan?”
Kan's eyes were full of determination.
