It was a regular day for Jane. She had already gone around the village and checked up if anyone was sick or injured, so she had nothing else to do. Since Kan or the other kids hadn’t come to the clinic to play with her, she had time to herself. A hobby she had recently picked up over the years in living in the village, was reading books about taking care of children.
Although she didn’t have kids of her own, she had help delivered many babies in the village. She would go and check on each family to see if the children were fine, and naturally she became very attached to all the children in the village. She wanted to do her best in raising them when their own family couldn’t.
The book she was currently reading was called, “How to Deal with Young Boys Growing Up(Ages 8-12)”. She had read the first volume of this book a while back and it had opened her eyes up to taking care of babies. Jane was currently reading this volume because Kan was going to turn 8 years old very soon and she wanted to be prepared.
She really loved Kan, so she wanted to raise him right. She wanted to fulfill Clive and Claire’s request for her to take care of Kan, if they ever disappeared. She didn’t know if they would disappear, but she wanted to be on the safe side and read the book in preparation. As she was reading, a paragraph in the book stood out from the rest.
“During this age, boys will tend to act recklessly and emotionally. This will be a dangerous period in their lives because they will endanger their lives for their ideals. They do not yet understand that they are still weak children and are not invincible, so be ready to watch over them.”
Jane suddenly felt uneasy. She didn’t know why, but she suddenly felt that something terrible had happened. Jane couldn’t sit still anymore, so she closed her book and left the clinic. This feeling wouldn’t go away, in fact it got stronger and stronger by the second. For some reason, unbeknownst to her, she believed that this feeling was an indication that something happened to Kan.
Jane began running towards Kan’s house. She needed to know if this feeling of dread was just a false alarm or not. Running at her fastest speed, Jane reached his house in a few minutes. She stood in front of the door and tried to calm herself down. This feeling could just be a mistake and she wouldn’t want to send Claire and Clive into a panic.
Jane calmly knocked on the door and waited for someone to open the door. She waited for the door to open and it felt like she was waiting for years. The feeling of dread only grew stronger.
“Oh, it’s Jane. Come on in.”
“Claire. Is...is Kan home.”
“No, he should be at the mayor’s place training right now with Leo and Clive.”
“Ok, thanks.”
Jane was about to immediately leave for the mayor’s place but Claire grabbed her hand. Jane looked back and saw Claire’s calm and gentle face looking back at her.
“What’s wrong Jane? You can talk to me if you want to? ”
Claire saw straight through Jane’s facade. Jane had been trying to stay calm and collected but it only took Claire a single glance to see that Jane wasn’t fine. Claire could see that Jane’s eyes were full of fear and uneasiness.
“Hey Jane. What are you doing here? Looking for Kan.”
Clive had just come back and saw Jane and Claire standing in the doorway. Jane swiftly turned and ran towards Clive.
“Clive, is Kan still at the mayor’s place.”

“No, he left about an hour ago to go train with Cole.”
“Cole? The watchman at the alarm tower?”
“Yeah.”
The dread grew even more. The alarm tower was right next to the forest and Jane could only imagine what could have happened. As time passed, it felt like the dread was trying to consume her. Jane couldn’t take it and fell to her knees and began muttering to herself.
“What’s wrong Jane? Are you ok?”
“We have to find Kan. We have to find Kan. We need to find Kan!!!”
“What’s going on Jane? Did something happen to Kan?”
Clive and Claire started to worry about Jane’s outburst. What made them even more worried was what she had just said. She said they needed to find Kan with the most urgency in her voice.
“I don’t know what has happened to Kan, but I feel that something terrible has happened to him. We need to quickly find him.”
“Ok, let’s go.”
Even though Jane’s explanation of the situation wasn’t clear, Clive didn’t hesitate to listen to what Jane said. If she said that something terrible has happened, then he would trust her on it. Clive grabbed Jane and unlocked his body to 35% and immediately left for the alarm tower. Claire also didn’t hesitate to thrown down her apron and began flying through the air. This time she had better control and speed of flying through the air.
……
‘It’s hurts! It hurts! It hurts so much!’
These were Kan’s last thoughts as he was attacked by the bear and flung towards the tree. This was the most intense pain he had ever been in. Even worse than when he was poisoned.
‘It burns!!! It burns so much!!!! It’s so hot!!!’
“WAKE UP!”
‘It’s cold!!! It’s so cold!!! Why is it so cold!’
“OPEN YOUR EYES!!”
‘What is that white light. It feels like home.’
“DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE WORLD!!!”
‘That green light. It’s so warm and familiar.’
“ACCEPT THAT GREEN LIGHT AND WAKE UP.”
Suddenly Kan’s eyes opened up but he was surrounded by darkness. He panicked and was afraid that he was once again stuck in the darkness. He was still naked and the only thing that was still on him was Jane’s necklace.
The necklace was warm and made him feel comfortable. The necklace was given to him by Jane on his 5th birthday and since then he has always worn it. In this darkness that made him feel isolated and helpless, the necklace made all those feelings disappear. He could feel Jane’s warmth and kindness through the necklace.
“You have awaken.”
A voice began speaking to Kan. This wasn’t the first time he had heard this voice. The last time he had heard it was 2 years ago when he had been poisoned by George Nice. Since then he had many questions for these voices inside of him. But he had one thing to do before asking them his questions.
‘Thank you very much for saving me.’
“Don’t thank us, thank that necklace for saving you. That necklace did most of the work. All we did was wake you up. Don’t forget to thank Cole for giving you medicine.”
The voice replied back to Kan but Kan was confused at how it had talked about itself. It talked as though there were other people besides itself. Kan wanted to ask the voice about it but the last sentence the voice had spoken, made Kan remember what had just happened.
‘Is Cole ok? What happened to him?’
“He abandoned you and ran away. As we are speaking right now, it would only take seconds before the three horned Bone Bear kills you.”
‘No, Cole wouldn’t do that. We are friends. We showered together.’
“Believe what you want, but I am merely stating what I saw happened. Ok, enough bickering. We only have a few seconds before the bear reaches you and we can’t have you dying. So we will help you.”
‘Wait I still have so many questions for you.’
“I’m sorry but your questions will have to wait until the next time we meet. The moment we help you fight off the bear, the World will notice our presence and will do whatever it can to destroy us. We will have to go into hiding, so we are counting on you to save Clear View.”
‘Wait what do you mean the World will destroy you? Who are you guys?’
“Good luck, Kan Lock.”
