Chapter 52: Three Horned Bone Bear(Part 1)

Cole could only scream out as he watch the bear attacked Kan. He had noticed the monster to late and didn’t have enough time to save Kan. Kan had been attacked from behind and was thrown against a tree. He didn’t know whether Kan was still alive or not but he vowed to destroy this monster.

The monster was covered in armor made from its own bones and had three horns protruding from its skull. It was known as the Bone Bear and each bone protruding from its skull was an indication of its strength. The most horns that had ever been recorded on a Bone Bear was five, so the Bone Bear that appeared in front of Cole and Kan was a powerful member of its species.

Even though Cole saw the amount of horns on this Bone Bear, he didn’t care. Either way, he would do whatever he could to kill it.

Cole was about to rush towards the bear but calmed down and realized what he really needed to do. He needed to save Kan first before dealing with the bear. Not waiting for another second, Cole dashed towards Kan. He needed to save Kan before he bled out or is eaten. Cole wasn’t the only one to dash towards Kan, the Bone Bear knew that Cole was trying to save Kan. Considering the strength of this Bone Bear, it was not dumb instead it was very intelligent.

Cole threw a dagger at the bear but the bear didn’t even pay attention to it. The dagger then hit the bear’s bone armor and was deflected. The bear’s bone armor was too strong for Cole’s daggers to pierce through. Seeing that it had no effect, Cole focused on reaching Kan instead of fighting.

Comparing the two’s speed, Cole was obviously faster but in his enraged state he lost time due to not making a decision quick enough. So the two of them were neck and neck in reaching Kan. In mere seconds the bear would reach Kan but in that moment Cole said something.

“[Blink].”

In the blink of a second Cole had reached where Kan was at. Cole had used his skill called [Blink]. This skill allowed him to instantaneously increase his speed to the point of looking like teleportation. The only problem was that he could only use it within a certain range and had a limited use of it. He hadn’t used it earlier because Kan was out of range but the moment he was in range, Cole didn’t hesitate to use it.

Kan was laying face down in a pool of his own blood, and that was when Cole appeared right about him. Cole’s forward momentum had not slowed down at all, so he reached both of his arms and grabbed onto Kan. He was now holding Kan next to his chest as he rolled forward to lessen the impact.

Right behind him, Cole could hear the sounds of numerous trees being toppled over. The three horned Bone Bear had crashed into the trees that Kan had been lying next to. Cole knew the trees wouldn’t hurt the bear at all since it was covered in armor, but it would give them a few seconds of rest.

Cole began checking on Kan’s condition and he was in a terrible state. There were three large gashes on Kan’s back, which was profusely bleeding. There was also bruising on his chest from when he was flung towards the tree, and there was even the possibility of multiple broken ribs and damaged organs. Kan was in a critical state and could die if he wasn’t treated.

The only thing Cole could do to help Kan right now was try and stop his bleeding. Cole took out a bottle of medicine and started pouring it on Kan’s back. Cole regretted not being more wary of the forest. When they had first started training on the outskirts of the forest, he had brought all sorts of medicine just in case one of them was injured by monsters, but since they only met weak monsters he became to relaxed. He had never thought that such a strong monster would appear in this part of the woods.

The medicine that Cole had just used took immediate effect and stopped the bleeding on Kan’s back. Cole was lucky that he had brought a high level healing item but this didn’t mean that Kan was saved. It only meant that he would only live a little bit longer until he got proper help.

“URAAGGGHHH!!!”

The three horned Bone Bear roared. It’s roar was so loud and intense that all the surroundings trees shook and their leaves shivered in fear. Cole felt his whole body vibrating from the bear’s roar and even felt like he was going to pass out. Cole stayed calm and kept his senses and began to run away from the bear. What the bear did was not recorded in any of the records kept on Bone Bears. This three horned Bone Bear had just used a skill and it was the only one of its kind to have it.

Cole began running without any hesitation. He needed to get Kan to a doctor before his condition got any worse, but where would he find a doctor good enough to bring Kan back from the brink of death. Only one name popped up in his head.

‘Jane. I need to find Jane.’

The only person that could save Kan was Jane, but the three horned Bone Bear wasn’t going to make it easy for them. The bear was right behind them as they were running. Cole was weaving through the forest with no problem at all but he still couldn’t get away from the bear. The bear was bulldozing through all the trees and wasn’t slowing down at all.

In fact the bear was getting closer and closer towards them. Cole had to go around trees and that took up time, while the bear could go straight through the trees. Each second that passed, the bear got closer.

‘Fuck, what should I do.’

Cole could stay and fight the three horned bear. It would take some effort but he would be able to kill it. The only problem is that Kan is with him. In the time that it took to kill the bear, Kan’s condition could get worse. The other option was to go straight into the village and get Kan to Jane, but in that time the bear would wreak havoc in town.

Cole’s eyes turned cold and the atmosphere changed. Cole had stopped running away and layed Kan down next to a tree. He turned around and looked at the bear. The bear was rushing towards Cole with hunger in its eyes. Cole was about to be its next dinner.

“I’m sorry Kan.”

Cole turned around to look at Kan one last time. And then he disappeared. He had abandoned Kan. Kan was lying on a tree, defenseless and weak, it was inevitable that he was about to become the three horned bear’s next meal.

Seeing that the other man was gone, the bear ran even faster with drool gushing out of his mouth. It was hungry and couldn’t wait to taste Kan’s body. He had kept his distance since he could tell that the bigger man was the most dangerous out of the two of them. The bear even felt a small hint of fear for Cole, which it had never felt before in its life. Living in the forest, he was always the one all the other monsters feared, but this time he had felt fear for Cole. But now that he was gone, he didn’t have anything to fear anymore. It didn’t have to hold back it’s speed anymore and it began running at full speed.
