Chapter 3: A New Family

Chapter 3: A New Family

In the city-state of Key lies the village of Clear View. Clear View was one of the three villages of the city-state of Key and it was the one furthest away from the capital. The closest village to the capital was the village of Night Fall and is 2 days away on carriage, the next one was the village of Iron and is 3 days away on carriage, and the last village is the village of Clear View which is 5 days away from the capital. Due to the distance between Clear View and the capital, they rarely had interaction with each other. The only interaction between Clear View and the capital are the check ups every three months. Every three months government officials would come collect taxes and materials while merchants also came along to sell and buy goods.

The origin of the name Clear View came from where Clear View was built. The village was built on the base of the mountain that overlooked the ocean. Behind the mountain Clear View was built on is a vast forest and a mountain range. The only way to reach the village from the capital or any of the other villages is to go through the mountain path. Although the mountain path is rocky and dangerous, it is still a safer alternative than the forest. Staying on the outskirts of the forest is relatively safe but as you go in deeper it becomes too dangerous. Legends say that if you go in to far in, you’ll meet dangerous and ferocious monsters. And if you don’t meet monsters, you still won’t be able to escape because something in the forest will distort your sense of direction so you won’t be able to leave.

In the village of Clear View was a house and in this house you could hear the groans and cries of a woman in pain and the worried steps of a person pacing about. The man paced back and forth with worry and anxiousness on his face. Sweat dripped down his face as he kept on pacing back and forth. This man was named Clive and the woman groaning is his wife Claire, who is currently giving birth.

“Is she alright? Is there anything I can do? Is she going to make it? Is the baby going to make? Oh god, why am I so useless. I can’t even do anything for my beloved Claire.”

“Calm down Clive. Everything is going fine so far. The hardest part is almost over. It’ll be just a moment before you find out whether your child is a boy or a girl. So just--”

“Aaaaggghh!!”

“Ok push Claire. You’re almost there, just a little more and the baby will be out. Push as hard as you can.”

“AAAAGGGHHH!!!”

“Here it comes.”

“Waaawaaaawaa!!”

“Wow aren’t you just the energetic child.”

“Is it a boy or a girl?”

“It is a healthy young boy, Claire.”

As the midwife, Jane, told Claire it was a healthy young boy, both Claire and Clive started crying tears of joy. Clive was now 30 and Claire was 29 but they had been trying to have a child for the last 10 years. For the last 10 years they tried and tried over and over again to conceive a child but nothing worked. Both of them were filled with anxiety and sadness because they didn’t know if they would ever have a child or not. It was not until last year were all of their anxiety thrown out of the window because Claire had become pregnant. Although their worry of never having a child was gone they still had to worry about having a miscarriage or a stillborn. Hearing their child cry and cry, all of their worries were now finally washed away.

“Here you go Claire.”

“Thank you very much Jane for helping me deliver him.”

“It’s no problem. We’ve known each other for years so you can depend on me for things like this. So, what are you guys going to name him.”

“What should we name him Clive?”

“I’ve already thought up of a strong name for him. Let’s name him Kaneous.”

“Rejected.”

“Why Claire. Kaneous is such a strong name.”

“Let’s name him Kandict. It’s such a proper and regal name.”

“Kandict is a dumb name in comparison to Kaneous.”

“What did you say Clive. Would you like to repeat that again CLIVE!”

“Uuuhh. I didn’t say anything Dear.”

“So Kandict it is then.”

“But…”

“No buts Clive.”

“Um. Why don’t you just name him Kan since both of the names you suggest start with Kan.

Jane suggested the name Kan and as soon as she did, the baby laughed joyously.

“Well, I guess he likes the name Kan.”

“It seems so.”

“It does.”

“Ok thank you for the name Jane. From this day onwards you are now named Kan Lock. Welcome to the family Kan.”
