Aspen’s toes hugged bark, her fingers gripping tree limbs. The wind was cold and breezy. She was 210 ft in the air. She was surrounded by plenty of trees, Aspens eyes were the color of honey and they slowly looked around surveying her surroundings. She could see everything from up here.
A knife hits the tree 2 inches away from her face she quickly pulls the securely penetrated knife out of the tree's bark. She bolts from branch from one to the next the leaves shaking and falling with every step. Another knife flies by her but it doesn’t get so close this time.
She starts sprinting and jumping, gliding with the wind limps to tree, grasping for air with every few steps.
She stops. The sunlight shining through leaves made her somehow peaceful. quickly remembering she must dodge and knives that may be thrown at her. Aspen looks behind her searching for Eden. sole spikes, sole spikes she chants. her feet sparkled adding shoes and on the soles, small spikes manifested. she kicks back and forth kicking the bark off making the tree's sap flow. The purpose of this was to hopefully slow Eden down if her foot hits the limp while chasing her. Aspen starts swinging from the limbs instead of just using her feet. ever few branches she would stop, and kick bark. After getting a few yards further Aspen stops to look behind. Aspen then stops a knife in midair from hitting her dead between the eyes, it hovers and spins before her. She grabs it with a smirk
"That was way to close, I need to work on getting faster." Aspen whispers to herself.
Eden carved on its wooden handle.
“You're using your favorite?” Aspen yells.
Eden’s slender body moves out from a huge tree. Her bare feet walk across tree limbs. Luckily these trees were so big that it could 50 people on its limbs without a problem, which were one thing that was different from the human world.
“Yeah, this time, I am." Eden yelled back happily. Aspen throws it as hard as she can, causing Eden to start the game all over again. This was something they did every Wednesday. It was like a game of tag and hide and seek with knifes. It helped them to feel better about walking alone at night because this way they at least had some experience running or throwing with knifes. it also gave them confidence in themselves with dealing direct messages to all the Mr. rights Nows that never got past the first paragraphs of the pointless conversations that started with my favorite book...My favorite color... and there was no cure for the relentless hate mail, they received upon rejecting them.
Stolen novel; please report.
But anger was fuel, they would not be subjected to feeling helpless all the time.
They did this for five hours before taking a seat on the forest floor and sat crisscross applesauce from each other.
“Aspen, I think I know how I can help you” Eden told her.
“If it’s anything like Joseph’s help I don’t want it” aspen said and rolled her eyes.
“No no no. I can get you that spell, I think. Not the resurrection one but the one where you go to the mirror world. Where you can get your ingredients. first you have to find the spell without anyone noticing or finding out though” Eden said before downing a whole water bottle.
“Are you sure? I don’t want you to risk your life for me” Aspen said with a concerned look on her face
“Only if I get caught. Joseph did the same thing to me last year and I got put in law and Ethics to. Learned how to get around everything, like a Ninja” Eden said then giggled.
“Why is Joseph like that? Can’t he just leave well enough alone? I also planned to do the same, it surprises me how similar we are sometimes Eden” Aspen said while letting out a big sigh and started laying down on the grass looking up at the tree limbs that were interwoven with each-other.
“His cousin died, from breaking the law. He watched him die on tv and he hasn’t been the same since.” Eden said softly.
Aspen’s let out a sigh, because now she kind of felt like an asshole. she thought of that feeling and understood him better.
Oh I wish I hadn’t of said all those things, I wish I hadn’t told him I didn’t care about him.
How awful of me
Aspen thought to herself.
“There’s thing called grapes of paradise, if you eat them, you can’t be detected. You can only get them from a certain group of witches and honestly, I’m not sure I can trust you with the kind of information that groups holds, So I’ll get them for you.” Eden said the cut her eyes at Aspen. "Do not betray me" Eden added before She called her broom, and it came swiftly from a mile outside of the forest and into Eden’s hands. She got on her broom and fell into the sky, leaving Aspen on the forest floor alone with her thoughts.
