2. Reasons

Aspen yawned as golden sunlight hit her bed, she started rubbing her eyes.

Her cat stretched out on her blue blanket and yawned with her.

The smell of coffee tickled her nose, she moved lethargically down her stairs to the kitchen were John stood slurping his coffee, staring out the window above the perfectly white and clean sink.

Aspen grabbed a coffee cup with only one eye open and poured.

“Do you have academy today?” John asked while raising his eyebrows.

“No, it’s Saturday, Jesus” she answered in an annoyed manner

“Oh, that’s right, I remember why I don’t talk to you before your coffee... that I made for you” John told her.

The only reason John was her roommate was because he was a regular Human. Making it harder for evil spirits sniff her out.

Usually this would be unheard of most humans hated witches. But John loved aspen and couldn’t say no to her when she asked him to roommate with her. Aspen was clueless to this fact she assumed that he was a part of those humans that fan girl witches. Most humans hated them but not all.

“You didn’t have to. I didn’t ask you to. I literally could’ve snapped my fingers and a cup of coffee would appear at my bedside” she spoke to him in a very matter of fact tone

“Wow” John said in a very elongated and loud way. “Then why do you always drink mine every morning?” He asked

“Because it’s good, Noone else makes coffee like you” aspen replied with a smile

John softly smiled back.

John knew aspen since they were kids and had been there for her as long as she could remember.

Their world was mostly a mirroring dimension, the human government casted all witches out, but not before creating the dimension. Humans could come and go as the pleased but usually didn’t because they had to have some magical ability to get in. They made expectations for government officials, although this was rare. When aspen brought John to her world, she had to hold his hand and they had all but a five-minute window to enter.

The humans gave this new world its name

“John, would you still be my friend... if I did something awful. so awful that I could get beheaded” aspen said so softly she almost whispered it.

John's eyes started slightly started watering and his face turning red.

“I do not wish to think of something like that.

And whatever it is, it won’t bring them back aspen. I’m sure those laws are in place for a reason” John answered

“Did the neighborhood have a reason for spray painting murder on my house? Did the cops have a valid reason for taking me to blood labs to test me for magic for four days straight? Did my Ex-boyfriend’s parents have a reason for telling me I’m a disgrace to God when my test results came back?” Aspen went on with tears in her eyes.

John wrapped her in arms.

"I'm so sorry, I know everything is different now and that can be terrifying, but you will always have me" he whispered.

"Thanks John." aspen said while wiping her tears. And softly smiling.

"Don't start your morning so sad and gloomy. would it make you feel better to practice you're magic on me?" he told her with a chuckle. "No, that's okay John thanks though. I think I'll go to the potion supply store and pick up some things that are required to have for school." Aspen snapped her fingers, a weak tornado surrounded her and the only thing visible were the top of her hair that was messily in bun. after 5 seconds went by, she was fully dressed out of her pajamas.

She grabbed the paper with the list of the required items and a satchel. she held out her hand and let a yell out "Ay-o" her broom flew swiftly to her hand. She then walked out the door. She put her items in her bag and flew off.

After around 30 minutes she began to land in the busy and loud streets of downtown. she searched among the roof tops until she reached a sign that read

Its walls filled with shelves of odd things she never expected to see in her life, much like some of the items on the list. in spaces apart ivy vines filled the walls and cover the entrie ceiling some people browsing the walls and shelves, some sitting on couches drinking coffee and conversating. Right as she entered a sign said

Aspen made her way to the back of the store approaching the desk where the register. a smiling perky clerk walked out.
