3. Winter came and left

3. Winter came and left

Aspen woke up on the couch in her living room, opening her eyes she saw John holding a hot cup of tea in front of her face.

“Here you go buddy. You were studying so hard last night I found you face down in a textbook” he told her with a sympathetic smile.

“I’m sorry John” aspen said in an embarrassed tone. Grabbing the tea.

*Knock knock knock*

“Hold on, don’t worry I got it” John assured.

John came back looking at aspen in a worried manner. “Aspen someone from your Academy is here”

She dashed to her feet and too the door. A tall slender woman in a skirt and blazer was there. she had extremely white skin and wore lipstick as red and orange as a sunset. Her eyes were a deep purple with speckles of white. “Excuse me Miss Aspen Hibiscus my name is Winter and I’m one of your administrators. I have been informed by a fellow student that you aren’t taking the law very seriously and I would just hate for your pretty little head to be cut off on live tv and frankly dear, you are a very good student, so we’ll give you another chance. Your poetry class has been switched to Law and Ethics. You will be expected to start this change Monday.” Then Winter snapped her fingers and disappeared in thin air. Aspen screamed and looked around. She never saw a transportation spell ever executed successfully before.

poetry class and similar classes were only put in place for new students to help with transition and it was more like a support group then an academic class.

*Joseph, you fucking twat. why do you have to go out of your way to upset me. This is enough. * Aspen thought to herself.

“Bye John love Ya!” Aspen said. She grabbed her broom and did a small run, jumped on her broom then headed off into the air. She arrived where townhouses were lined up for miles. She finally stopped at 1233. It was an old English looking townhouse, it quite beautiful. The house huge stained-glass windows trim with black lace metal.

Bang Bang Bang Aspen furiously punched with the side of her fist on the front door of this home.

She stood there panting, her eyebrows furrowed. Sweat glistening on her chest. The armpits of her tank top started to get damp

After a few moments Joseph open the door with a smile that quickly faded upon seeing aspen expression.

“What in the fuck Joseph? You really snitched on me? I thought I could trust you!” Aspen yelled

“Aspen I am trying to help, you’ve only been here six months and you are trying to get beheaded?” He said sternly

“Well, you’re not helpful. I didn’t ask for this! I didn’t ask to be a witch! I just wanted to see my family.” Aspen replied in the same tone he spoke to her in.

“Please calm down. You need to accept your new life instead of trying to run away from it. I care about you!” Joseph said starting to get frustrated.

“Well, I don’t care about you.” Aspen said calmly. She didn’t really mean this, she was craving him to feel some kind of hurt. With one tear rolling down her face as she flew off to the sky.

Aspen felt betrayed, hurt and was growing to hate Joseph. Ever since she got to this world he was always there for her, now all of sudden it felt like that changed. She thought about this for the rest of the day. She wondered if Eden was on this to.

I’ll just have to do this alone John won’t even help me with this one, it's too dangerous for anyone to touch with a 10ft pole. I don't know how I'm actually going to pull this off without being beheaded. I barely know where to start.

Aspen thought to herself while the cold wind raced on her face making her cheeks red.

Monday rolls around and it’s 2 p.m.

aspen floats in her law and ethics and takes a seat in the back. Usually, she’d find herself front and center ready to annoyily be the teacher's pet. But she hated the thought of being in here due to unapologetically disagreeing with joseph. Ignoring the reason that the laws were put in place.

“Hello, to our new student here my name Mr. Crumble” he said loudly towards aspen

She gave a quick nod and smile.

The chalk board looked like this

President

Faction 1.Faction 2.

“So, you might be thinking to yourself if I were to do like a time spell how would anyone know, some cause everyone to be frozen. Well... faction one is a group of 5 witches that are immune to others magic, they also monitor what they call high risk witches.” Crumble paused and looked at aspen.

She rolled her eyes and started picking at her fingernails. “Now the question you might be asking is how to they find these so-called high-risk witches? Well, that’s where fraction two comes in. I’m sure you’ve seen all the cameras around all the shops the sidewalks and maybe Even around your favorite ingredient shops. faction two has a group of witches they have watch these cameras all day and night. They also take Anonymous calls 24/7. Faction two is way larger and holds about 30 witches in its faction. They also deal Directly with laws that aren’t punishable by death, such a thieves for example. They look over these crimes and decide what is, in their eyes far. Usually, they do something called forgiveness. That’s where they take your powers away for a week, a month, 6 six months. Really however long they seem fit to the crime.” Crumble said and then stopped to observe the class. He was a tall man in 60’s and his long grey bread fell to his belly button, he kept a stern face. Rumors floated around the academy that he was kicked out of one the factions and was forced to teach this class for the rest of his days because he hardly ever smiled, and his face seem bitter. When asked about it though he would just reply “Young adults sure do have wild imaginations”.

It took thirty minutes before aspen saw Joseph sitting in the front of the class, her skin boiled with rage.

wow absolutely ridiculous she thought.

Was this just a way to get more time with her? or did he do because he really cared about her? This was a mystery to her. Whichever the outcome she didn’t care.

Mr. Crumble went on and on about why faction two was so important. Aspen disagreed with this. It seemed to her that faction one held the most importantance, seeing as they are the main jury in any court case. Maybe if she could learn the law in great detail, she could work her way around it. So, the class started to seem like a blessing in disguise and definitely wouldn't have the effect joseph was hoping for. Instead, this just encouraged Aspen's disobedience to the law.

"Faction two authorizes what ingredients and potions that are sold by merchants. They also go through any books that are sold. If one creates a new spell or potion it has to be prepared and performed in a room where they watch and review from a double-sided glass window. Then they spend thirty days reviewing it. Either banning it or approve it, if it gets approved, they will then send it to faction 1 to approve it. performing this before approval results in forgiveness and automatic denial. They will also send a group to raid one's house removing all ingredients of the potion. If it's a spell they will wipe it from your memories and anyone's memorie you may have talk to about it and will raid the home looking for any place you may have written it down. Only Faction two decides what is taught here in the academy." Mr. Crumble said with sitting on his desk with leg hanging off it and his other foot firmly on the floor on supporting his leaning

faction two is micromanagement with a title Aspen wrote down in her notes with a sigh.

Then Mr. Crumble wrote down legal terms and its definition. Allowing his students to copy them in their notebooks.
