[Onre Litman’s Point of View, 20 Fifthmonth 726]
It was just about time for me to finally level. We can first do so at 10 on our fifteenth birthday. I had told the gang yesterday I would like to do this alone, but I wanted to take my time. I have never had an extended interactive session with my interface before. It is commonplace for Rhonda and Forrest, but I would like to relish and focus on the experience most of us find to be rare.
“Rhonda, I would like to level in a moment. The store won’t need me for a while, right?”
“No, Onre, I can handle it. I know you have been excited about this moment for a long time. If you need me for something, just holler, but I suspect your interface will guide you through the process. You can tell me about it afterward.”
“Thank you, Mom.” I gave her an excited hug and went to the storeroom, seating myself on a crate.
People say just to request to level. Okay – “Interface, I would like to level.”
Greetings, Onre Litman. You have met the requirements to be graduated to Level 1. You will be given three sets of choices. The first is optional, but will simplify the follow-up choices. Second, you will choose your Primary class. Finally, choose your secondary class. After that, you will see your Level 1 character sheet and assign 2 free points.
Aetherial Options: Mana ● | Ki ● | None ● | Select via Primary Class ●
This was the same sort of scrollable window used by my party interface. I already knew I would be a Ki user, and selected it.
Choose Primary Class: By Name ● | By Alphabetical List ● | By Hierarchy ●
Yes, I can imagine those lists would get really long if it included all aetherial options. Since I already know what I want, I could just choose both classes by name, but I’m curious about the ‘By Hierarchy’ option. I mentally selected it.
Martial ● | Adventuring Magic ● | Support ● | Crafting ●
Ki Prestidigitator will likely be under Support, so I selected it.
Defensive ● | Offensive ● | Miscellaneous ●
It is for both adventuring and entertaining. Must be “Miscellaneous”.
Ki Prestidigitator ● | Mindsmith ● | Shapeshifter ●
Summoner ● | Warlock ●
I chose the first one, somewhat surprised I didn’t see more options. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were a crapload of mana-based ones. It was unexpected to see the first two being what Forrest had suggested weeks ago. 'Interface' I should say.
Ki Prestidigitator accepted. You will be given the option to change your selection prior to locking in both classes.
Choose Secondary Class: By Name ● | By Alphabetical List ● | By Hierarchy ●
Einvigi had told us that Ki Healer was a ‘disfavored’ class. Later, in a discussion about Forrest’s classes, Teacher Dorra Marson said that to choose one of those, you needed to know its name ahead of time. So I selected ‘By Name’.
Please think the name of your desired secondary class.
“Ki Healer”
WARNING: Ki Healer is a disfavored class. Choosing it will have ongoing ramifications. You will immediately lose 4 charisma, and charisma gains beyond that point will be felt at half their normal effect.
Verify that you choose Ki Healer as your secondary class: Yes ● | No ●
I selected Yes, already knowing about the ramifications.
Lock in Ki Prestigator and Ki Healer: Yes ● | No ●
Immediately after selecting Yes, my character sheet scrolled.

Do you wish to assign your free points at this time? Yes ● | No ●
I spent a few minutes scrolling up and down and up again the character sheet. I knew I would be granted the Heal Other skill, but I was not aware of what my first two primary skills would be. First I answered its question.
“Yes, please assign both free points to charisma.”
My charisma is in better shape than Forrest’s. He only gets the effect of a half point gain each level, but I’ll get one. So its 8 value dropped to 4, leveling bonuses increased it to 5, and my free points brought it to 6. I’ve even got those earrings Forrest loaned me, but I want to see myself before deciding to get my ears pierced.
“Interface, please describe Sleight of Hand.”
Sleight of Hand is the signature skill of any prestidigitator. Observers find it difficult to track the motion of your hands. Speed and reach grow over time. Rank, dexterity, luck, and wisdom all contribute to the skill’s effectiveness. Rank F values:
Ki used: 10
Duration: 5 seconds
Recharge: 7 seconds
“Interface, please describe Stealth.”
Stealth makes you harder to see. It evolves from a skill which makes it somewhat difficult for you to be noticed in shadows to full invisibility in broad daylight. Rank, level, perception, and dexterity all contribute to skill’s effectiveness. Rank F values:
Ki: 3/minute
SP: 5/minute
Max Duration: 3 minutes
Okay, that was really interesting. I’ll tell Mom about it, then the gang at training.
