Book 1 : The lock, chapter 20 : Coiled to strike

By now, the tunnels looked quite a lot different. The 'passage' of earth gave way to a more rugged feeling. The green glow coming from the ceiling moss casting strange shadows.

The white tendrils of the fungi swaying in the wind as an ant passes by. By now, there are even a few giant mushrooms coming out of them. 2 giant trunks coming together to form a large mushroom, carrying a big hood full of spores.

Strangly enough, those bigger tendrils of fungi seemed to sway even more then the smaller fungi.

The (Attini) seemed to enjoy making glowing moss piles around them, so it was quite a weird sight.

Speaking of weird sights, a glittering group of swordwielders seems to be moving to my core.

Strange, but nothing weird about that. What actually drew my attention was the people popping out of the shadows. And the little girl carrying giant rods of metal with a top as if a snake coiled itself on it.

First fire, then earth and now metal... that's way to much of a coincidence.

Likely tomorrow will be water and then nature.

But to which purpose?

Unlike the roomshaping desaster that was earth, the damage was precice.

Trying to get it over with, I threw everything I had at once. The horde of ants getting nowhere in the straight hall as a row of glittering white armor reddelded them.

Looking closer, I saw that they shot 2 arrows at a time, each one finding an eye.

Seeing this desaster, I could only pull back. Not willing to roll over I did leave a nasty supprise in the cracks of the tunnel.

Being halfway the tunnel, the tiny girl started to plant her rods in the ground. This seemed to be a queue for the white gilltering [Samurai] to move back and make space.

After a few seconds, I could see how their hair started to stand up, but beyond that nothing seemed to happen. I waited for a good minute, until finally the tention got cut.

The white haired old man moved a bit forward and said "Touma, It is your turn"

The young duplicate of the old man unstrapped some of his swords and moved forward.

As he walked towards the last part of the tunnel, he stuck 2 of those swords in the ground. Leaving one hand on the scabbard and one on his blade.

With that strange action, he closed the last few steps to the bladed ant. As the (Blade ant) went for the neck, somehow the boy stepped passed the ant. His sword was held sideways, the green liquid betraying what it passed through.

The boy's eyes were locked on the ants rushing to him, so he did not notice the one dropping from the ceiling.

I also missed something, I did not notice when the old man split the falling ant from the middle of the tunnel. Stiking staight to the boys sword, the ant and the rocks in the tunnel from so far away.

The young boy rushed back, with the remaining ants in a reckless dive towards him.

In those 2 steps back, he picked up the 2 swords he left behind spinning and decaptitating in one smooth swing.

This must have been the closed call he ever had, judging by his shocked look. I don't agree with that, those ants were long dead, metal stars made sure of that.

Seemingly withdrawing to protect their heir, they all ran back, leaving the small girl alone.

As the ants moved up on her, her hair started to stand up, and arcs of light moved between her hands and the coiled metal rods.

With a snap of thunder, silence returned to the cave.

I am once again left alone for the night, blade shards and little stars of metal left in the corpses.

This time the box said [Gold], and had a white glow to it

Clang ...

I looked at my fungi again. Last night they were swaying a little bit in the wind, and I wasn't so sure. After all, why would the big mushroom sway the most in the wind?

No, fungi don't normally kick away sword shards!
