Book 1 : The lock, chapter 07 : Why is fate so cruel?

My spirit gets flushed out of the crystal along with the smoke. Even with the graceless fall I am happy to have a human body again. At least I would be if I did not hear the whispers around me in the smoke.

As the white and black smoke clear up and draw more and more together I can make out some movement in the corner of my eyes. As scared as I am to watch, I can help myself and turn to watch.

Nothing, but now the giggle is comming from behind me. That was the last thing I heard before I got pushed and feel myself waking up in class again.

Achievement Touched by fate

Fate is changing and strengtening itself around you.

The heavy hand of fate has guided you many times.

The fates are working though you to restore balance,

you start to attract chaos, but with chaos comes opportunity

----------------------------------------

‘Fate has a strange way of enforcing itself, forever strengthening itself’

Aaaghhh! Why will the fates not stop messing with me? Do I really need to hear this line over and over again?

Stolen novel; please report.

I am not going back to that dungeon, I am running out as soon as Teach isn't looking!

Barely dodging a crayon that flew to my head was difficult, but the teacher's stare made it clear that I had to behave if I waned to slip away.

----------------------------------------

Now that we went over Fate magic, we reviewed what you need to know before you unlock your class.

Our local town dungeon is dormant and as long as you listen to me it should pose no real risk to any of you students.

If there are no questions, we will leave for the dungeon immediately!

Shockingly David seemed to be conflicted and working up the courage to ask a question.

"Why is fate so cruel?"

I blankly stared at the young boy, and had real trouble answering.

For the first time in many years my [teacher] class inspired me to find a way to explain my limited insight into fate.

> The fates, or Moirai, are not cruel by nature, they just have to guide eveything and twist reallity piece by piece to make fate come true.

>

> Breaking your leg could keep you from hunting for food for a few days. But it doing so you could be avoiding a fatal meeting with a goblin.

>

> All the heroes sufferded from the heavy hand of fate. Keeping you from danger will leave you weak. Allowing you to save your friend might cause your death.

>

> The fates keep the balance of good and evil. Most just mistake their guidance with cruelty.

>

> But be warned, a scorned fate has many ways to arrive at the same place. Keeping you away from the forest can be done in many ways. Breaking your leg works just as well as forgetting your bow.

I am as confused as David from this explanation.

Never have I felt [Enlighten student] be this forceful in it's guidance.

And did I just use the the word fate to explain fate?

David seems to listen, but it's clear that the young boy should have been given a few more years to prepare for his class unlock.

----------------------------------------

As we leave class to go to the dungeon I ponder about the teacher's words "The fates guide to make fate come true"

I wonder how that is any different from just messing around and doing whatever they want?

At least Teach isn't paying as much attention to me this time.

We should pass that farmer's wagon any minute now.
