Season 1: The Starcraft Commander---Chapter 33: Moebius Hybrid

The elite marines and marauders walked out of their medivacs and briefly spreaded out to cover more ground. They looked for any enemies, but all they found were broken armors and shattered buildings. As far as the soldiers could see there were no living things on site.

“All clear sir.” The captain of the scouting squad tapped the side of his helmet and reported. Suddenly he heard an ear piercing roar that seemingly penetrated his brain and reached into his soul. The man dropped to his knees and grabbed onto his head, groaning in pain.

“What is it soldier? Report in!” Warfield commanded as he heard the groan.

“Sir?” An officier said hesitantly. Warfield turned around to a computer screen. On the screen was a giant red beast.

It was a menacing monster. Its entire body radiated red psionic energy. Strangely, the entire body of the hybrid was covered with metal armor similar to the terran technology. A pair of metal wings extended out of its back. Its head was covered with metal plating. The hybrid was a combination of terran and hybrid technology. It wasn’t too happy after being nuked, but it was alive.

Warfield’s eyes widened and the armored man walked to the comm, where Jean was online. “What is it?” He hissed.

Jean glanced at him. “It’s a Moebius hybrid, a powerful weapon developed by the Moebius Corps. Extremely dangerous. I advise you to open fire as soon as possible.”

“You knew about this?” Warfield complained. His fist gripping together. “Why didn’t you tell me before I sent my men down there?” Jean tilted her head and didn’t respond. Warfield turned to the small squad. “Men! Get out of there now!”

The special ops soldiers turned around and ran back to their medivacs with full speed, slightly desperate but remembering their training. Jean frowned, unable to comprehend why Warfield was so tense. It was a dozen men on the ground. If she was Warfield she would just ignore about the stranded soldiers and order the fleet to unleash on the hybrid. A dozen collateral damage was something she could brush off.

The Moebius hybrid, floating in the air with its psi energy, disappeared and appeared right before the medivac. It formed a red orb of psi energy and threw it toward the medivac. The metal ship plating of the transport that could survive multiple gauss rounds was ripped apart. As the ship was gone, so was the chance of survival of the scouts.

General Warfield turned around as the elite scouts were slaughtered by the hybrid. Their enhanced gauss rifles and enhanced grenade launchers did no damage to the hybrid’s shield, let alone to its health, while the psionic blast of the hybrid could kill the marines and marauders in one single shot.

“Open fire on the Moebius hybrid now general.” Jean stopped the silent mourning of the good general. “General Warfield.” She urged without any patience. A general should be less attached to his men.

Warfield groaned and waved his hand. “Do it.” He said quietly. The crew members around him obeyed and passed down the order. A minute later the entire Dominion fleet started unloading upon the hybrid.

Every minotaur battlecruiser, apart from a Yamato cannon, was armed with 24 pairs of laser batteries. 12 pairs were anti air and 12 pairs were anti ground. There were 36 Minotaur class battlecruisers, which added into a total of 432 pairs of air to ground laser batteries. All of these firing power that were formerly used to bombard planets created a deadly effect when focused on a single target.

Hundreds of laser beam smashed into the hybrid every second. The computer guided batteries made sure all the rounds hit the target. The hybrid’s plasma shield, formed by its astonishing psi energy, blocked all of the hits at first and have the hybrid some time to fight back. Unfortunately the hybrid’s psionic blast that was unstoppable against ground units nearby did close to no damage to the giant ships in high orbit. The laser batteries were designed to bombard ground targets, but psionic blasts simply weren’t durable enough to fly across miles of air and still have enough energy to penetrate the layers of plating of the battlecruisers. The hybrid fired a few shots with no success.

The bombardment went on for minutes. At first the hybrid fought back, but eventually it was drained off by the continuous bombardment. The plasma shield disappeared a while later, and the hybrid could merely use its body and platings to take the batteries. But with no way to fight back and no chance of escaping, the hybrid’s powerful psionic ability merely made it a more durable punching bag for the Dominion fleet.

Five minutes later, the Moebius hybrid was already collapsing on the ground with no more energy to make itself float. Its plating was battered and its entire body was covered with scars. The hybrid suddenly made a piercing scream, as if calling for a combat or complaining about the cowardness of the terran. Jean wasn’t moved. There was a reason earth was dominated by human beings. Human beings were weaker in terms of strength and abilities in hunting than beasts like lions and tiger, but they learned to use tricks to enhance themselves. Starting with bows and arrows, human being eventually found themself with giant fleets. Here in the Corpuru sector, the terran didn’t have the protoss psionic abilities, nor did they have the raw strength of the zerg, but they could fight both superior races with their tricks. Sometimes intelligence was much more important than raw strength. Jean knew very well a thousand her with her suit and computer aid couldn’t defeat the Moebius hybrid, but now, with a few tricks, she was practically slaughtering the seemingly invincible hybrid.

As Jean was thinking Warfield wasn’t foolish enough to call off the attack. The man merely watched in silence as the beast finally fell apart from the firing. A weapon that could massacre a ground army from any race was taken out with ease.

Jean tilted her head and frowned with a blank expression. The hybrid was surprisingly weak against air units. Eventually she would hack into what was left of the Moebius network and find out why. The Moebius hybrid was designed to take down ground units. In Amon’s plan the hybrids would be supported by both the Death Fleet and the Golden Armada. The hybrid would never have to fight air units and would simply stump over the enemy ground units with the protection of the almost unbreakable plasma shield.

In the future Jean would also realize how significant the mission was. According to the Moebius plan these hybrids would be created in numerous numbers and would be in the thousands when Amon returned. The scene of thousands of Moebius hybrids charging forward into your line was never a scene a commander wanted to see. She made sure that would never happen.

“Good luck with the cleanup general.” Jean ackknowledged. She had no intention of the spoils of war. She got what she came for and there was no reason to stay with someone that despise her for some reason. Warfield nodded, and the two terran battlecruisers jumped away from the ruined planet.
