Chapter 2

You’ve created a new type of plant! What would you like to name it?

I ignored the message and crawled out from the fluff. I ripped a bit of the fluff from the rest. Soft as cotton, it felt like a clump of dandelion seeds. A breeze of clear, cold air wafted through. Chunks of fuzz dissolved into the breeze. It filled the air with fluff, wafting down like snow.

I looked around and found myself in a dark and majestic forest. The chatter of crickets filled the air. Giant trees of a species I had never seen before surrounded me. Branches thicker than a bus curved in spirals above me. Trees like this didn’t exist on earth, couldn’t exist on Earth. The trees were so tall they blocked nearly every bit of light from the sun. Glowing berries covered nearby vines while shining fruit hung off the smaller tree branches, giving the pitch black forest floor a droplet of light.

Wherever this was, it wasn’t Earth.

Gentle rays of light shined down through the trees. Bits of dew formed on the moss on the ground. Exotic flowers sprouted from the ground and hung off the trees. Billionaires from earth would pay a fortune to live here. I had landed in paradise.

Bolts of pain jolted through my leg. Or it would’ve have been paradise if my right leg wasn’t shattered.

A rustle from behind me. I swiveled around and saw a titanic ape-like beast two stories tall rumbling towards me. Its entire body was encased in blue crystal for armor.

It would’ve been paradise if my leg wasn't shattered and this stupid ape didn’t exist. It raised a crystalline hand and lunged at me. Very sternly, I told my good leg move, boi, fucking move.

For the first and hopefully last time in my life, I experienced a true adrenaline rush. “Boi” had received its command, “fucking move”. “Boi” carried out its job faithfully, or as faithfully as a single leg could.

The ape’s hand struck the ground with the power of a wrecking ball. The earth wasn’t dry enough to crack from the blow, but it sent a cloud of loose dirt and moss into the air.

“Boi” stumbled five one-legged stumbles before turning into a crampy boi.

Five one legged steps for one crampy boi, five giant leaps for crampy boikind.

I stumbled into a mass of vines. The vines climbed up the side of a tree until it reached the canopy. Hanging off from it were tens of thousands of berries. I grabbed the one closest to me and instantly felt a connection with it. A vague idea of what I wanted to happen channeled into the berry.

I threw it to the ground in front of the ape. The berry trembled. Countless vines, some a meter thick, some thinner than my pinky, burst out and tangled the beast. The earth quaked. A root popped out of the ground and grazed my good leg. The sea of vines pinned the ape to the ground. I couldn’t keep my balance and I fell on my butt.
