Every day is the same. After falling into a routine, each day tends to blend into the last. This isn’t a bad thing, but I still hoped that someday, I’d be able to break out of the cycle.
I rolled my eyes. I was having those thoughts again. One of those fleeting moments of introspection. One of those moments that only happened at the most boring moments of my life, like when listening to physics lectures.
It was a normal day in my good old high school. I was in my favorite class, physics, taking notes on Newton’s Third Law. Physics class wasn’t my favorite because of the content of the class. I couldn’t care less about the content. I liked it because of the people in the class.
“Hey Vince, you doing anything after school today?” Brain whispered.
My exasperation at myself redirected to Brian. Brian was the one who had planted all these thoughts in my head. He loved going on hour long philosophical speeches about random stuff I didn’t care about. But at some point, some of his talking points rubbed off on me.
“Nope, I was going to go home and do nothing,” I replied.
“Great. Do you want to come to my house instead?” he said.
“Sure.” We’ve had this conversation a dozens of times already. We didn’t need any extra planning.
I glanced across the classroom. The girl that I had a crush on, Jessica, was also in this class. She played with her pencil while half-listening to the teacher.
But of course, none of this really mattered. I would never go to Brian’s house again. Well, at least not the one in this world.
Congratulations, Vincent!

A blue box appeared in front of me. My back straightened and my head jolted up. I turned to see if Brian was seeing the same thing. The blue screen moved to stay in my sight. I heard a couple screams and more than a couple gasps.
“Are you seeing this?” I put my hand on Brian’s shoulder and shook him. He turned around and we both saw the panic on each other’s faces. His eyes darted between my face and something in front of his nose, something I couldn’t see.
“Yes!,” he screamed.
A new set of text replaced the text on the screen.
You and your class are about to die! You have five seconds to prepare!
Part of me was still telling me this was all part of some elaborate prank. But any thought of this being a prank vanished when the classroom around me disappeared.
My legs swung wildly, searching for something solid but finding nothing. I looked down. I hung in the sky, so high up I could see the curvature of the earth. I started to drop.
My stomach clenched and my heart seized up. The acceleration was like the drop on a rollercoaster but ten times worse. The wind roared in my ears, blocking out my own scream. A scream clawed out of my throat.
It wasn’t long before I reached terminal velocity. The shred of rationality left in me told to spread my arms out and made myself as flat as possible. It was supposed to increase air resistance on me and slow me down. But for some reason, I felt it wouldn’t help that much. No matter what I did, a belly flop from this high up into solid earth wasn’t a survivable situation.
You have teleported into the world of Halves!
All of your knowledge of the English Language has been converted to knowledge of the national language of Raisin!
This screen is also now in the national language of Raisin!
Who cares? I’m about to die!
Your soul and mana have melded into one! Good luck!
What was once a tiny green dot in the sky quickly expanded. It wasn’t really expanding, I was just getting closer to it. I soon realized it was a vast forest.
Welp, I’m going to die.
A branch slapped my leg, shattering the bone. I closed my eyes, ready to embrace death. Instead, my outstretched left hand embraced a fruit from one of the trees around me.
The moment I touched the fruit, I felt a supreme connection with the world. I was everywhere at once. I could see every tree and pebble on the planet. In that moment, I had become a God. The connection with the universe narrowed until the connection belonged only to the fruit in my hand.
New Permanent Title : Vincent, “The Cultivator”!
I knew what I had to do. My will entered the fruit and I threw the fruit down to the ground. It spread into a mass of fluff ten stories high. I crashed into it, but it was a comfortable crash. I had survived.
