Chapter 17

The next morning, a vine lowered me to the ground. The sun peeked out from behind the horizon, filling the world with light once again. The treehouse behind me dissolved into dust and the vine withered.

I sat at the base of the tree, contemplating how I was going to handle my life in this world. I had a feeling I could make a huge impact. I had only spent a bit more than a month here and my plants were already enormously powerful.

However, making an impact might not be such a great idea. It looked to me like this world was doing fine on its own. I might have good intentions, but that was no guarantee my actions wouldn’t bring about a calamity. The Wright Brothers just wanted to fly. Their inventions were still turned into war machines.

Besides that, I didn’t want to become arrogant either. Chen Wei was already calling me a Grandmaster, whatever that meant. I’m sure others would be as willing to kiss up to me. It’s quite easy to become arrogant if praised too much. All the more reason not to show off my plants too much.

I reached into my pocket and picked out the biggest seed I could find. The size of the seed didn’t affect the quality or size of the end product, I chose a bigger seed out of habit. I always picked out bigger seeds when starting on big projects.

It was just a quirk of habit, but I liked it. I played with the seed absentmindedly while thinking about other things. I threw it into the air and caught it again. I passed it from my left hand to my right and back again. I pushed it between my palms. Finally, I put nearly all my mana into the seed.

Nothing happened, and I grinned.

New Cultivator skill unlocked : Prolong

Prolong has reached level two!

At level two, you may prolong two seeds at a time!

I smiled.

Most of my seeds had to be used shortly after creating them. Otherwise, the modified seed would quickly revert back to its normal state. This new skill let me prolong the life of my seeds to forever. In exchange, the mass majority of the mana went into the prolonging.

I put the prolonged seed in a wooden box and headed towards the town. I walked past the gate and found Chen Wei waiting.

She noticed me walking toward her and bowed, “Good morning, Grandmaster Jin. Are we leaving now?”

“Yes, but before that, please take this.” I handed her the box, “If you ever find yourself in a life or death situation, put this box at your feet and crush it. A shell will grow out and protect you. It won’t delay your death by very much though, and you won’t be able to move, so don’t rely on it too much.”

She accepted the box. “Thank you,” her voice shook, “I owe you twice as much now, how will I repay you?”

“I don’t know, you don’t need to. Just give me something in the future, I guess.”

“Yes sir, I will!” she said.

We walked out the town until we reached an open field where nobody was around to see us. We stood there while I tried to think of a faster transportation method. The Twentytacle Trap was a Brian at defense, but worse than a Vincent when it came to transportation.

I threw three seeds out. The first two turned into wheels and the third turned into a body, connecting the two wheels. The wheels weren’t like the wheels you would see on a car, they were elongated versions of them, kind of like that thing at the front of steamrollers.

I threw out two more seeds, which turned into vines that could turn the wheels. The entire thing was gigantic, many times larger than a normal car. The wheels alone were taller than me. I climbed on to the body and motioned for Chen Wei to follow me. I planted a Twentytacle Trap on top of the car just so that I had something to defend us in case of a surprise attack.

One last problem though, I expected this new vehicle to go pretty fast. It was going to get windy for the passengers. An idea flitted through my head. “As if that would work…” I whispered.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

I took out another seed and it turned into a mostly clear block, like glass. “No way…” Clear wood?  How was this even possible? Then again, none of this should have been possible.

I walked to the center of the trap and created a hinged clear dome for us to sit in. Two more seats popped out of the ground. I took one and she took the other. Monster trucks be damned, veggie trucks are way better.

She pointed in a direction and we set off.
