Chapter 35: Regeneration Field

Chapter 35: Regeneration Field

“I-I…”

Before Lily-Rose could continue her stutters of hesitation, Lucy burst into laughter, unable to bear how adorably easy it was to bully her.

“It’s a joke. You don’t need to think about it too hard. As long as you’re happy, you can do whatever you want. That aside, though, you’re still suffering from some internal injuries, right? Would you like me to heal those for you?”

Blushing profusely, Lily-Rose only began to sober up a bit when Lucy mentioned healing her internal injuries. “E-eh? You can do that? Shouldn’t you be limited to just your lightning?”

“Magical cheat system, remember? And uh, I don’t know, we’re about to find out! Nell, would you please transform me?”

Nell narrowed her eyes at Lucy. The tone she used to say that was the same tone that Lucy had used without fail when she was planning something reckless, “You’re not gonna hurt yourself this time, are you?” She asked.

“Probably not!” Lucy smiled.

Groaning lightly with doubt, Nell assisted Lucy in her transformation, and the group left the mansion.

Chronos’ eyes widened when she saw the amount of Mana and Health she had. She hadn’t checked her status while transformed for a while, but this was far greater than what she had expected.

Shaking her surprise, she began perusing her memories to understand what all the Runes looked like.

“So basically, if I…” She spoke to herself, infusing her finger with Manamancy as she began to draw several runes in front of her. Each rune took dozens of seconds to draw, making sure she didn’t screw a single one up.

Whether her screwing one up would make it misfire and damage her or not go off at all was something she didn’t know, and she didn’t particularly want to find out.

Regenerate. Realm. Burst. Burst. Burst.

“5 Times reinforce! Regeneration Field!” She shouted out, slamming her mana-infused fist through the runes to activate them.

Without a moment to comprehend what would happen, Chronos fell to the ground as Mana began leaving her body far faster than what should be allowed with her damaged Mana Zone.

With the flurry of notifications clouding her vision, Chronos could feel the pain she was in begin to subside at the cost of nearly all of her 100,000 plus Mana being depleted.

Getting into the Lotus position to regulate the flow of Mana inside her body, half a minute passed quickly, another flurry of notifications filling her vision.

Standing up, she assisted Lily-Rose, who also fell because of the sudden influx of Mana. “How are you feeling?”

Patting herself down in disbelief, Lily-Rose accepted Chronos’ hand and stood up, looking at her with shock painted all over my face. “The Injuries… They’re actually all gone! You’re incredible!”

“Of course I am. Anyone from my lineage has to be at least a little bit extraordinary!” Chronos agreed, not being modest in the slightest, causing Lily-Rose to giggle.

“Oh, right, I forgot! Diana said she’d be willing to meet you this weekend since you became my staff. Does that sound good?”

Lily-Rose thought about it for a moment before nodding. “Sure.”

“Okay! It’s a date then! Now! Onto the next thing! System, open the HEROES! Tab.”

This time, instead of a flurry of pop-ups, it was one large one, much like the shop panel. Several filters were available to sort, each one represented by one of the Coven emblems for simplicity.

At the very top of the numerous options was something that caught Chronos’ eye.

“There’s the Gacha. I was waiting for it. I knew it was too good to be true. Nell, you’re gonna let me do the random one, right?”

“Lucille, why? We aren’t in need of any firepower, and the kingdom doesn’t have any needs yet. Why would you ever risk that?”

“I-I agree with Nell. If I’m understanding this right, these Heroes are like the Commander-grade Xin, right? If you can’t control them, wouldn’t it be really risky for no real reason?”

“Not you, too!” Chronos pouted when Nell and Lily-Rose tried to talk her down from gambling with facts and logic. “You guys don’t understand. The gambling, it’s calling me. I need to gamble.”

Nell and Lily-Rose looked at each other, Nell with a pensive look and Lily-Rose with a wry smile. They already knew that trying to talk Chronos out of it wouldn’t work. She had this unique charisma that made it seem like everything would work out, no matter how stupid of a choice she made.

It doesn’t help that this charisma she has is being backed up by her doing tons of stupid things and barely being punished for it. Sacrificing her life to save Utopia and Sora, she gained Sentinel abilities.

Deciding to oppose two unknown Sentinels to protect an unknown half-alien, she got Lily-Rose. The only difference between this time and those is that this time, what she can gain is very clear, which made it even harder for them to talk her down.

“At least look through the ones you can get. Please, Lucille.”

Narrowing her eyes at Nell, Chronos let out a sigh and a weak, “Fine.”

Out of all the categories, Chronos began looking through the Tomes. If she was going to pick someone, them being able to manage the resources for her would be the best this early on. At least in her opinion.

Continuing to scroll through them idly, it became quickly apparent that not much was different between all the Tier 1 Tomes. Their numbers were all very similar to each other, none having a stat that surpassed 2. The only real difference was their personality.

Moving on to the Athames for a change of pace, Chronos was at least a little more intrigued..

Athames had a much higher variety in their stats. None passed 2 still, but some primarily focused on military and assassination. Others were all-rounders, being pretty okay at everything, while some had very high diplomat scores.

There weren’t any that interested Chronos, but they were there. The other categories, such as Staff and Orb, weren’t really any different, much to the surprise of absolutely no one… Except maybe Zone. If he’s aware of anything is still a mystery.

“See! They’re all boring! Can I gamble now?”

“Ooh… I’m gonna get us all killed by saying yes to you one of these days…” Nell mumbled to herself before nodding. “ONLY if we leave the borders. I’m not letting anything get destroyed because of you, Lucille.”

“YAY!” Chronos cheered.

It took them about 20 minutes of walking to leave the territory that was considered theirs, signified by a notification from the system.

Looking around, Chronos was a little surprised at how… Normal the area was. This was her first time outside of her small starting area, much less so her land altogether, and it was just a super dense forest with a big lake.

It was pretty, beautiful even. Far more so than any forest she had seen… Granted, most forests she had seen were filled to the brim with Demonic Beasts that wanted nothing more than to eat her, which might dampen the beauty a little bit, but that’s beside the point.

It was a simple beauty, and Chronos thought it was gonna be a damn shame whenever all of this inevitably got destroyed in what was to come.
