Chapter 28: New Features!

Holding her hand in front of her face, she poured mana through her arm, creating a small magic circle. Out of it came a puff of bright yellow smoke.

Narrowing her eyes at the cloud, Lucy scoffed.

“As I thought. That old bastard actually left his paralysis poison in my body after all this time. Then why didn’t he use it during my battle with that snake? I don’t believe you didn’t have the foresight to see me dying against that snake if Sora didn’t sacrifice herself. What are you getting at, Rain?” She questioned.

Although her words were nothing more than conjecture, Rainforethazzireth was a Devil of Greed. With Underkin being forced to act upon their sin, it didn’t make sense for such an intelligent devil aligned with Greed to let his contractor do something so stupid. Especially if he had a way to prevent it in his fingertips.

‘Oh, what does it matter? With this, I think I could actually use miscellaneous spells. Should I learn how to make talisman from Diana? No, maybe I should be questioning how the system can even grant me Rain’s ability when he isn’t possessing me… Did it somehow alter the contract I made with him?’

She wanted to be far more happy about the possibility of using magic properly without needing to transform but she simply had too much on her mind. Idle thoughts were pointless when she still had so much more to look over. Theorizing could wait.

“Open up the kingdom panel.”

“A kingdom quest? Are the quest classifications different now that I’ve ranked up to E? How curious.”

Selecting Destroy to clear out some more ruins, the 600 Mana they had was quickly depleted as two more pieces of the ruin were selected for removal. After that, Lucy moved to the Build option to look at the new options she had.

Humming while looking at her new options, Lucy chose to build two houses with her current resources.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“I’ll place them near the mansion, I guess.”

With the sound of magical hammers slamming into the ground and rock, Lucy moved her attention to the upgrade feature.

She selected the farm.

“Lose production, huh? So either build more or stock up.”

Having no intention of upgrading anything right off the bat anyway, Lucy nodded in understanding. The amount of resources she had right now was fine, and she just needed someone to collect them for her while she and Nell were fighting.

“Guess that’s it for the kingdom for now. What else did I get? A new shop and specializations, right? I’ll look at the new shop first.”

With her command, the Attribute shop opened up. Much like the other categories, had way too many options for Lucy to look at any with great detail.

Out of all the useful effects Lucy could buy, one caught her eye as she scrolled through them.

“That seems… Extremely unethical.” Lucy let out a small chuckle, not even bothering to mention the extortionate price.

Everything in this shop was like this, though. Even the cheapest thing in the store was 40 thousand candies.

Closing that panel, Lucy quickly moved on to the final addition to the system that she wanted to view, Specializations.

The list continued on.

Hundreds if not thousands of options for Lucy to choose from. Taking a seat while she scrolled through them, she found a few that looked interesting to her after about half a dozen minutes.

The first of which caught her eyes was Ruler. Considering that she was about to become the ruler of her own subjects sometime in the near future, there was no way such a skill wouldn’t be appealing. Despite the appeal, it was the one she was the least inclined to take. At least as her first Specialization.

For a greater half of Lucy, looking through all these Specializations, this was the one she was planning to pick. The thought of heading into one of the many demonic forests that exist and taming dozens of demonic beasts and potentially some higher forms of Underkind was a bit more than just appealing to Lucy.

With that being said, the one she finally decided on was simply something she found that much more beneficial to her, not just in the long term but also immediately in the short term as well.

“Worldly Runes,” Lucy mumbled.

A type of lost and fragmented magic that nobody in the world has retained. Once said to be the pinnacle of magic application was completely destroyed by the many different forces who couldn’t obtain them. That’s how powerful these were.

The only proof that remained in the world were the few Germanic languages, but those had nothing mystical about them. Only echoes of what was once the most versatile type of magic.

Not hesitating for a moment, Lucy chose Scribe as her Specialization. It wasn’t even a question. Even if it only gave her the method of recreating the long-lost runes in 10 years time, she would have still chosen this without even considering the other options.

The panel quickly changed to show a wheel which, just like the text implied, spun and spun without slowing down!

Honestly, Lucy didn’t really care what she got. Even if it was deadweight to her, she was simply far too ecstatic about gaining access to Runes

Another minute passed before the wheel showed the slightest sign of slowing and another two actually to stop.

As it landed on Lucy’s second Specialization, her smile grew wider.

As little as she cared for the Alchemy skill because of her being able to buy potions from the shop, the skills she could learn from this Specialization were what caused her smile to grow. If she could get her hands on Thought Acceleration it’d be infinitely more difficult to find an opening in her defenses, much less actually being able to beat her.

“I don’t think this can be called Cheat-like anymore. I’m simply hacking at this point, aren’t I?” She chuckled maniacally to herself.

“Lucille, did you manage to find drugs in the mansion? What is wrong wi-”

“AHG!” Lucy screamed, falling off of her chair at the sudden sound of Nell’s voice in her ear.

She had gotten so absorbed in the system’s new features that she didn’t even realize that Nell and Zone had finished their chat several minutes ago!
