"I was prepared to make this my full-time job but can't you attack AFTER I visit Sora..." Lucy scoffed.
Right after she got the notification, she dipped into a nearby alleyway and transformed before taking to the skies. As she was flying there was a number of people who took notice of her, speculating who she was and taking pictures.
Considering that the old Operators have been working in this area for a while, a girl with a completely new style and color scheme would probably become the talk of Nexus's Sentinel forum boards. Not that Chronos cared. If anything, being a Sentinel could be a good front for hiding her identity as a Witch if things went wrong.
"This is really weird." Nell mused aloud.
"Publicly, Invader attacks only happen a couple of times a month since Sentinels usually drag them into the Shadow world in time. In reality, they attack once a week if you're unlucky yet..."
"It's Tuesday and this is the third attack this week?" Chronos chimed in.
Nell nodded. "I'm sorry for putting such pressure on you despite your situation."
Nell's words made Chronos chuckle a little.
"Not like it's your fault. If you have time to think you’re in the wrong then use that time to figure out why the amount of attacks is increasing. If I had to guess, it might have something to do with this System... Either that or there's something important in this city."
"Oh? Why those two things in particular?"
"Hmm. Hunch, I guess? That's just usually how things go in stories or Anime."
While the reasoning of Chronos’ hunch was... Questionable at best, she made a valid point. A mysterious system appearing and the frequency increase of Invaders being connected wasn't a far-fetched thing to guess. The issue was actually drawing a connection between the two.
"Look! There it is!" Chronos called out, pointing at a crack in space in the middle of the street. People who saw it had mixed reactions. Most were running or driving away while some of the stupider ones were taking pictures or videos.

Rifts weren't something that could be kept secret. Technology to detect them has only started being made for the past year or so and they can only be detected after they appear meaning civilians' eyes will almost always catch them.
"They haven't come out yet. We can this time to prepare. Nell, can you pull us into the Shadow World the moment it appears?" Chronos said, landing on a nearby roof.
Immediately upon landing, Chronos began creating several magic circles around herself. Magic was a science when it came down to it. Give someone enough time to do the calculations and enough Mana to fuel their antics, basically, anything was possible, and be assured, Sentinels have a limitless amount of Mana compared to their counterparts.
On top of that, Since there was nothing to disturb her, it was the perfect chance for Chronos to simply prepare a massive spell and annihilate whatever came out of that rift.
"If I start preparing the shift now, I should be able to," Nell answered.
"Please do. Status."

As her mana slowly drained from her body, the pressure of the spell she was creating became strong enough to start affecting the mundane people, something that shouldn't really happen if they're incapable of sensing Mana.
"My stats have been growing at a nice rate. I wonder if I'm just good at this or if my stats will always increase at this speed." She mused with a smile.
You have gained a mandatory Quest! Defeat the two Invaders.
Low Class Suitman 0/1
LesserVampir Wolf 0/1
Rewards: +20 to all stats, Candies, and 2 random skill levels.
Looking at the quest she gained, Chronos's smile changed very quickly. She became a little nervous.
The fact that there were two enemies this time was one thing but she didn't like how many stat points she was getting. It was suspicious.
Up until this point, she's been getting 5 at most. The sudden jump in rewards gave her an unnerving feeling...
A part of her wanted to drag this fight out a little bit to get a good grasp on how strong she actually was but she also didn't wanna keep Sora and Utopia waiting. Assuming she wasn't pushed to her limit in this battle, that could wait till next time.
"It's opening get ready!" Nell shouted as she stood with her own magic circle being created.
Moments before Nell shouted, the rift began shaking violently, causing even the stupidest humans to start running away. The fact that Chronos's Mana was beginning to become potent enough for normal people to feel probably also helped.
Adding on some finishing touches to her magic circles, a large murky red wolf along with a familiar grotesque humanoid wearing a suit appeared, the wolf noticing Chronos basically immediately. Unfortunately, it was far too late to matter as every magically inclined entity present got forcefully dragged into the Shadow world and moments later...
"Keravnós"
A massive stream of lighting shot toward the two, completely obliterating the surrounding area for several meters. With how flashy the explosion the impact caused, Chronos was surprised at how little damage it actually did.
"Holy shit you can actually do that?!" Chronos shouted in surprise.
Nell was shocked by what she heard.
"Did you think I couldn't?!"
"No..."
"Chronos!"
"Okay Maybe! Don't hit me!"
"WHY DID YOU CHARGE SUCH A BIG SPELL WITHOUT KNOWING I COULD DO SUCH A THING?!"
"A little property damage never hurt anyone! Aside from the people who owned that property! Nobody cares about them though!"
"CHRONOS!"
"OKAY, I'M SORRY IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN!?"
That... Quarrel aside, Chronos narrowed her eyes when she didn't see her quest change at all. They both survived that.
'I messed it up somewhere? Where?' She mused.
Her understanding of Lightning magic was. It wasn't terrible, she understood the fundamentals but that didn't mean much when you were handling the most unstable element aside from time which she both had for far longer and could still not control in the slightest.
Because of this less-than-ideal understanding, the spell was far weaker than it should have been. If her mother put in the same amount of Mana... the entire state of Nevada might have not survived.

From the smoke of the explosion, the large wolf leaped at Chronos with great agility, clearly very pissed and very hurt. Most of the wounds seemed superficial with the exception of one of the wolf's eyes being closed tight with black blood gushing out of it.
Chronos wanted to comment on her restoration of Mana but didn't have time as she did a double back handspring into a backflip off the roof in a hurry... Totally not her tumbling over herself and making it look intentional... Chronos is a dignified martial artist! She would never do such a thing!
"Bad dog! Lightning Whip!"
Quickly recalling her broom, Chronos conjured another magic circle, creating a whip made of lighting with her Tonfa as the base. As she tossed it to catch the wolf, he let out a powerful howl before biting into the lightning.
The lightning harmed him as Chronos saw the inside of his mouth getting singed before he tore the whip into pieces like it was candy.
With that, a thought came to Chronos's mind.
'The snake could regenerate. Does this stupid animal have a gimmick as well?'
Thinking about it for a short while, Chronos let out an annoyed sigh as her mind considered the most annoying possibility.
"Invaders all have different unique abilities, don’t they… And yours seems to be pain nullification."
While pain nullification wasn’t the worst ability, it opened possibilities to what other abilities Invaders could have and just considering that gave her a headache…
