"Well, that was anticlimactic. I really thought it'd be a harder fight. If I really tried, I probably could have won without a transformation." Lucy sighed, holding the shattered crystal in her hand.
Nell nodded in agreement.
Roughly an hour had passed since their battle with the Suitman as it was called. After taking the man to the nearest hospital and escorting that mother-daughter pair out of the Shadow World, Lucy and Nell returned home. Invader-related injuries were quite common in the world right now so the moment they saw someone dressed like a Disney witch with a black cat that had 2 tails the hospital staff understood what happened.
"While it might be in part of that weird technique you used, I agree. What was that spell anyway?"
"The spell... Or the skill I used to cast it?"
Mildly confused, Nell hopped off Lucy's shoulder and narrowed her eyes at the young girl.
Thinking about it, she remembered Lucy saying something about not getting mad at her.
"Lucille, what did you do?"
"You can see my status panel right?"
"Mhm?"
"Just read the skills I got. I plead the 5th."
Opening up Lucy's panel, Nell scoffed at what she saw when looking at the skill description.

This was fine. While Nell wasn't sure if these stages were a known thing in this world as nobody really talked about them, they were the common ranking of magic where she was from. It's nice that it's displayed in a simple manner.

"You... WHAT!?"
"In my defense, what else am I supposed to do when it survives getting its head smashed in? Just because I'm a witch and am used to death doesn't mean I'm used to things not dying when they should be dead!" Lucy shuttered, remembering how she put a hole in the head of that snake Invader and it still not dying.
"Also... If that fight continued, something far worse than a damaged soul would happen." Lucy muttered under her breath.
Nell was going to tear into Lucille for how stupid using something like this was when it was completely unnecessary but stopped herself. Lucy was a witch, they thought differently and used different means than a normal magical sentinel as the latter were normal people at one point. She should
But at the same time, letting Lucy die and choosing a new host to become an Operator might be the best option to keep the other Agents who rested in the pocket dimension safe.

'No, Stop thinking like this. Sora knows what she's doing. Just believe in her.' Nell thought to herself, quickly disregarding her negative thoughts.
This didn't mean Lucy was going to get out of this unscolded though.
"Where did you even get a technique... Skill? That manipulates the soul?! You'd have to be a magus of the highest level to even figure out a way to do that. I don't even know how to manipulate a soul! And that spell, was it dangerous too?"
Lucy shook her head vigorously, waving her hands to the side.
"No, no! That was just a weakened version of my Cousin's signature spell! It's meant for large area destruction but even with me gathering mana from the surroundings I'd never be able to use even a fraction of its true power!"
"And the answer to my first question?" Nell pushed.
"I discovered it by accident?" Lucy said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"My cousin is an amazing Witch and I was constantly compared to her despite not being able to use magic properly. Let's just say, I understand how Mana works on a much more fundamental level than most because of this."
Technically this wasn't a lie. She did indeed discover this technique by accident. Just that accident happened to be seeing her mother who was a magus of the highest level doing it. When it came to reverse engineering spells, Lucy was probably second to none and this talent of hers would only become more effective now that she gained the skill Third Eye as instead of just feeling the magic around her she could actually see it.
Glowing particles danced around the world, lighting up even the darkest of places. It was very pretty but looking at it gave her a massive headache so she would avoid doing it whenever she could for the time being.
That aside, it was a pretty Niche skill though considering all 3 of her Affinities are extremely rare. She was pretty confident that no other person had Chronomancy, Electromancy was the rarest of the basic elements, and Manamancy was something only other Sentinels had of which, she had only met one.
BZZZT!
Looking at her phone, Lucy hummed as she got a text from an unknown number.
Utopia here. Sora has regained consciousness and the hospital is accepting visitors. I also might have changed some family records to make you appear as her cousin. Turns out forging family records isn't an easy thing to do. Anyways, the Address is …
‘What?! Already?’
Seeing that Sora was awake Lucy smiled and showed Nell while cheering.
It could not be said with words how happy she was that Sora woke up. For a few minutes, she thought the girl who saved her would be stuck in a coma.
In her excitement, Lucy quickly texted Utopia back without really thinking about it.
I'll come by after school.
The thought of this being a trap briefly flashed through her head afterwards but she easily thought of a way around that. She could rest easy.
And rest she would. Normally Lucy would work out after her runs but she had more than enough physical activity to hold her over for the next while. For the time being, she wanted to look into the kingdom that she, for some reason, just had now.
"I'm heading into the base. I kind of passed out before I had the chance to look at everything..." Lucy chuckled awkwardly.
Nell let out a small sigh at the mention of passing out. Normal people are usually a bit more worried about their health whenever they black out. Considering that having access to Mana made you a lot healthier as well, it'd be even more concerning when something like that happens.
Then she remembered that Lucy was a 14-year-old girl who decided to fight an alien snake to let someone who she considered her mortal enemy run away. Normal was the word that is furthest from properly describing Lucy Lotus Elliot.
|Would you like to enter Nameless Sentinel Base? Y/N|
"Yes."
Once again, Lucy and Nell were transported into a large bedroom. This time, Lucy was prepared for the shift in Mana density and steadied her body.
|
She could feel it. Her body was still adapting to this area so it was a little hard for her to breathe.
Glancing over at the sleeping Agents, Lucy let out a small sigh.
"When will they wake up?"
"Who knows? The lifeforce of an Agent is directly tied to the Sentinel they choose but also to each other. As long as one of us lives, the rest cannot die per se. To put it in a way that makes sense, their life force was sent into a negative value but as long as I live that value will continue to increase slowly." Nell explained.

| "Aside from the Treasury, how do either of those other things fit into a castle?" Lucy questioned. "Haven't we gotten past the stage of questioning this System?" "Fair enough... Oh right, you placed the resource collectors right?" Nell nodded. After dragging Lucy out of the base, she went back to place them down. "Thanks for that. It'd be a shame if they weren't generating anything all this time." "Hah? What are you thanking me for? We're partners now. The success of one is the success of both." Nell said with a smug smile. A black twin-tailed cat with a smug smile. Lucy couldn't hold back her urge to... Fluff... Running at Nell, Lucy picked her up and started cuddling her. "N-nya?!"
