Chapter 29: Convictions

Chapter 29: Convictions

The man did not reply. He continued observing me from a distance. She made Amy suffer, and I will make him regret this even if it's the last thing I do.

My legs crackled with thunder, and in a second I was already in front of the man with my Scythe to his face. His expression did not change as he moved aside, letting me brush past him. At that moment we locked eyes with no emotion between the two of us.

There was only the fight ahead but I didn't care. I didn't care about the fight, I didn't care about anything else at that moment except ending him.

I landed on the ground, with only a short distance between us. Tension rising with every second as the overwhelming rage I felt was replaced with numbness and indifference.

The air seemed to have stilled, like time came to a stop and in the next second. I turned to him and lunged once more with my Scythe in hand, wanting to reap his life.

I sent a barrage of slashes to him that was faster to track for the naked eye. Every step I took, I took it efficiently, like a dancer performing for the stars above. Efficient yet also deadly, maximizing every slash to its fullest capacity.

Instinctively besides electrifying my feet, thunder started to crackle within my Scythe, my movement becoming faster and faster for anyone to see as my Scythe was swung with immense speed and ferocity.

But not once, not once did I manage to hit him. I gazed at his face and saw that there was no change in his expression, his eyes filled with utter indifference.

I felt myself becoming more indifferent and numb, only thinking of logical conclusions and solutions to my every movement. With the man being the same as ever, only dodging and observing as if I was a mere performer.

Jumping up, I stared at him from above the sky and noted the still lying Amy in the corner, and with that vanished any sense of emotions. I felt myself becoming totally void of all emotions. So be it.

Amplifying the thunder coursing through my veins, I feel like a meteor about to crash down on earth. I gripped the handle of both of my Scythe and the moment i was near him, i slashed down with everything i had as i collided with him. Dust billowed not letting me see the results but i already knew the results.

The dust settled and I saw that the man was holding the ends of my scythe with one hand, not even looking at it and instead was staring at me with no emotion. I thought that would happen.

I wanted to pull away with my Scythe but he didnt let me, he started approaching me while he gripped my weapon, not letting go for even a second. My veins bulged as I tried pulling it out of his clutches but there was no reaction, so with no other options left.

I let go of my scythe and used {Lightning Movement} to widen the distance, yet the moment I did he was still in front of me, his eyes swirling with unfathomable darkness. He sent a fist towards me, yet it wasn't fast and was even slow.

It was moving at a snail's pace in my eyes, intending to punch a hole through my abdomen. I tried dodging as I used {Lightning Movement} consecutively yet it was still approaching, like an arrow shot with a hundred percent accuracy.

Finally it collided but strangely i felt nothing, there was no pain involved but there was no need for it. His fist sent me flying through the trees, crashing into it as I broke every single tree that I passed through.

I finally stopped as I crashed into a massive boulder, cracking its center as it spread like a spider's web of a spider. Crumbling it to pieces as it buried me with it.

My bodily sensations returned, reminding of the pain my injuries caused. Losing all emotion yet still feeling pain, and even then I didn't pay it any heed. Treating it like a fly buzzing my way.

But it reminded me of how weak I am, my body mangled and broken as even lifting a finger felt impossible in this situation.

I was weak.

Rays of sunlight started seeping through the artificial coffin, with an arm pushing through as it grabbed me by the collar and lifted me out of the rubble.

I looked into his eyes and there was still coldness present.

“Obey.”

His eyes swirled with darkness as I suddenly sensed my very surroundings turning pitch black, wrapping around every part of my body. All I could see, hear, feel and touch was only the feeling of nothingness.

But it was not able to penetrate my own mind, I was still able to think clearly and I thought of one solution that can allow me to end him. It was that spell which I really don't think I can recover from in the real world.

The only reason I managed to survive, in my opinion, was that I was in my {Lexicon}, theorizing that it was protecting me as long as I was in there.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

But the alternative is much worse. I get captured and Amy is left for dead, and judging by her injuries she won't last long. There was no other choice.

Summoning my Scythe to my hand, I gathered the last remaining will i had left and muttered the chant under my breathe

“{Unity in Death}”

All of a sudden the invading darkness in front of me was no longer terrifying, and instead I saw it as an amalgamation of mana and magic. I saw through the man in front of me, the core of his being almost being devoid of anything that is human.

It was only a split second I think of that, and I had a hunch I had two to beat the man in front of me. Without wasting any more time, I grabbed his arm and crushed it. His expression finally changed as he winced in pain.

WIth the last remaining second, i slammed my electrified fist towards his abdomen as he was unable to react. In slow motion, I could see immense shock in his eyes, but I didn't care and already made contact, sending him flying through the trees.

Time was up as i felt all power leaving my body, crashing down on my back as i lied down and faced the sky. Amy, i must rescue her. I can't let Mr Frank be sad about this, I can't let her die.

I tried moving my body, but there was no response. The world started to become blurry as I felt my consciousness drifting away, like a connection within my body and soul was cut.

I endured and kept my eyes open, though my eyelids felt heavy as a mountain. I'm sorry Amy, I can't save you. I cant save anyone. Im sorry. Slowly my eyelids started closing and despite my will to not do so, it continued.

Absolute despair was on my mind, Amy was still dying. I have to save Amy. But suddenly, before I went into deep hibernation, I saw a figure towering above me. A pair of emerald eyes gazed into me, his golden armor glinting below the dark sky.

I smiled as I was sure that we were saved. I was assured that I could leave this world knowing that Amy was saved. But I do have one regret, and it's that I wasn't able to send him.

William kneeled down and picked up Cosmo, passed out and when he did a scan of his body, he realized that he was dying. His cells were crumbling on itself, his heart barely pumping the oxygen necessary for him to live. He already removed Amy from the situation and was safe, her condition, though terrible, was still salvageable.

But for Cosmo, deep down he didn't want to admit it, but he knew that the hopes of him ever waking up again was slim to none. He gazed at Cosmos' pale and whitening face, his limbs feeling as if it was as fragile as glass.William felt something else simmer deep within him.

He did not know why, but it did not matter. He felt anger, rage and hate towards the one who did this. He figured the why can be answered later on. He held Cosmo on one arm, while the other he held his Halberd, shimmering with might and power.

Then he slapped the but of his weapon on the ground twice, and a portal emerged just behind him. He was about to leave when he felt an overwhelming presence appeared.

He indifferently glanced at the person and saw who it was, he was even familiar with the man. Seeing him from the intelligence files gathered by the {[Veritas Conquistador]}, the eyes and ears of the Emperor.

The man's previous long cascading hair was frazzled, all over the place as some of his hair covered his face. His eyes bore rage and bloodlust as the darkness around him was becoming even more so. Encroaching everything around him as if it was a monster that existed to devour.

“He cannot leave.” he demanded. But William didnt care and instead gazed at him coldly. Before the man in black could react, Cosmo was thrown into the portal and disappeared from the scene.

“No!”

The man tried to stop William, submerging himself in darkness as he appeared at an area close to him. He ignored William and tried lunging at the portal but he was stopped.

Just as he was about to reach it, he felt a sharp object make contact with his sides, barely able to defend as darkness wrapped around where he was hit, but still thrown back as he flew through the air and crashed into a tree.

He picked himself up and brushed off his attack. He seemed to have focused as his body was slowly becoming wrapped with darkness, his hands becoming sharper and robust, with half of his face turning pitch black.

“You…”

William turned colder and colder, his aura becoming the opposite as it started boiling with immense energy. The area around him turned catastrophic as the grass itself disintegrated under the pressure.

“By the oath I swore to The Great Emperor, I shall protect his Empire from the hands of the wicked.” William said, his voice booming with power and conviction.

“You have interfered with the Official Business of the Church, repent by giving him to us or you shall be the bearer of war for your country.”

The atmosphere froze over, the tension rising as their opposing auras clashed, one with that of pure righteousness as its immense glow of gold was blinding. The other pitch black, but not of evil and instead contains holy attributes. Both having a conviction and an oath to uphold.

“So be it.” William said, his aura concentrating on his weapon as he planted both his feet, gripped the shaft of his Halberd and lunged towards the man in black with the force of a moving mountain.

“Arrogant.” The man in black said nothing more as the depth of his darkness deepened, becoming that of the abyss as the concept of light in the surroundings seemed to have disappeared. The space they occupied suddenly became absent of light, with the only one bearing it was William.

His eyes turned blood red like those of a demon, hungering for destruction in all its ruinous powers. He lunged forward with both of his hands squirming with destructive energy.

“That's enough.”

The moment they were about to collide and start wiping each other out, someone stood between them and stopped both of their assaults from connecting.

The man clashed with both of them, a Chokuto crackling with black thunder stopping Williams Halberd from going any further, with the other hand holding a pristine silver dagger streaming with black lightning as it was held against the Man in black's neck.

Both stopped from their assaults as they saw who it was.

“That's better. So let's have a good talk shall we?”
