Chapter 18: A Normal Day

The Inquisition.

Nope, no idea who they are. Never heard of them until Mr. Lucius mentioned them. I didn't even know they existed in the first place, much less know what they did. And judging from Mr. Lucius' reaction, they probably weren't a big deal anyway.

So when he mentioned it to me, I didn’t think much of it and ended the night. I lay down on my bed and went to sleep. The sweet sense of slumber overtook me once more.

“Run another lap and you’re done”

She ordered before she disappeared. I barely heard her words as I was gasping for breath on the ground, lying in a puddle of my sweat.

With my clothes tattered beyond measure, i wobbly stood up as i felt the burns on some areas of my body. But i was still alive, so that's good.

I gritted my teeth as i started limping, then walked, then i began running again. I lost count of how much i ran today and i couldn't be bothered on counting it.

The blistering heat boring down on me didn't make my situation any better, making me want to pass out and sleep it off. But i endured the pain and kept running.

The heat seemed to have dulled my mind, not knowing if I already ran a lap or not. So for good measure, I ran longer and only stopped when someone confirmed that i was finished.

“You’re done.”

A voice said in my head, making me halt my steps and fell flat on my back. The world was a blur when i saw it, with only the sound of my racing heart being the only sound i heard.

I gasped for more air as i tried to maintain the little amount of consciousness i had left. Any sensation left my body as the only thing my body was focusing on, was making sure i don't pass out. And i was close to just letting myself pass out on the field.

Not even the burn marks i had was enough to move me. I made an effort in moving my fingers but there was no response. So i calmed down and controlled my breathing. Any longer of recklessly gasping for breath and i might actually pass out.

All of a sudden i no longer felt the sweltering heat boring down on my skin. I felt a towering shadow covering the sun, but i didn’t bother opening my eyes. For one im too tired to even think at the moment, and two i already knew who it was.

“Can i go now, Mr. William?”

I asked, using the little amount of willpower i had left in me. The answer didn't come as fast as i wanted it to be, and yet i let it be since it did not matter if i can or not. Either way, moving from my spot will be a challenging task.

“Yes, you may.”

Unfortunately, the towering shadow protecting me from the unreasonable heat was gone, feeling the immense sun once more on my skin. Sigh.

A slight snapping sound rang out, and after that, i felt my body becoming more comfortable as the sensation of being alive was coming back to me. I opened my eyes and cupped my whole body, realizing that my wounds and burns were all gone.

I jumped up from my position and stood up, double-checking my body and making sure that I was actually healed. Except for the tattered clothing in which i am in need of a replacement, everything else was actually fine. Cool.

Glancing around, i thought that Mr. William was the one who healed me but he was already gone. So who was it? Either way, i can thank them later, but for now, there's something just as urgent as that, its lunch.

My feet crackled with lightning as i bolted out the door using {Lightning Movement}. Like hell im staying any longer, i could hear the food calling me. In an instant I was at the door and opened it, seeing the color blue on the other side as I crossed to it without hesitation.

I'm told that the door acts as a portal to the other side, and by another side, i mean to another door. The Door to the bar. When i crossed over, i cast my eyes to the door and admired its carefully crafted picture.

I didn’t make this door of course but i bought it at a local door maker. Didn’t even know that was a thing until yesterday when i was shopping around. Anyway, i found and bought one using my own money since Mr. Frank didn’t care if we had a door or not, so it was up to me to figure it out.

It was only a normal door in its appearance but hey, it’s still our door. And it’s a door leading to a place i call home.

Smiling, i held the doorknob and turned it. The smell of alcohol seeped through a small opening, assaulting my nostrils as i sensed the overwhelming content of it. Wonderful.

I entered and glanced around the place and saw that there a few customers already drinking. Despite it only being in the middle of the day, there were already people drinking. I ignored it since it was the same as usual.

I started making my way to the counter, greeting Amy who was cleaning the tables with a smile, but she only waved her hand once at me without looking and continued on with her work. Same old same old.

Planning to man the bar, i was about to serve a couple of drinks when Mr Frank stopped me from doing so.

“Change first.”

Puzzled i didn’t know what he meant when he pointed at my clothes. Then it struck me, I forgot that it was still tattered in pieces. Okay then. I replied with an okay and thanked Mr. Frank before I made my way to my room.

I changed in a flash and was back. I started helping Amy out as we polished the already polished chairs and tables, washed the glasses, and served the customers.

Some weren’t actually drinking and were here for the food. I didn’t know what was wrong in their head on why they did that but hey, to each his own i guess.

After serving the customers, Amy and Mr. Frank decided that it was time for lunch, so we went out back and started eating together. I already adjusted to the food here and oww it was good. Amy cooked the food for the three of us while i helped her out.

I once cooked before but I was banned by both Amy and Mr. Frank from continuing, saying things like ‘Assassination huh’ and ‘Samuel taught you well’. I didn’t know what they meant and so i tasted the thing I cooked. At least to say im not going to try again any time soon.

We finished and made some conversation. Well more so of me talking about the things i learned and the cool leaf i found, with Amy giving the occasional nod and ‘uhuh’ and Mr. Frank with the occasional grunts. Good times in my opinion.

We soon separated as I still had to train with Mr. Lucius, while Amy was off to train somewhere else, and Mr. Frank took charge while we were gone.

I arrived at the front of the building where Mr. Samuels’ Guild was operating at. Opening the door, I went in and saw that the place was busy as usual. Some were dark hooded customers ordering for an assassination while some were clerks, going to and fro from the place as they handled the paperwork. It was still a business at the end of the day.

Passing through the head clerk, i smiled and greeted her as she replied with a nod. She was a cool person. I went up the stairs and soon found myself in front of a door. A door to a place that i feared, mostly because i dont feel like getting stabbed from all directions. And love because i liked hanging out with the people trying to kill me.

They were nice people when I spent more time with them. They taught me all sorts of tricks, like moving in random positions when running away and how to properly block out your presence. I was getting good at running away, but not so much with blocking out the presence thing.

The moment I entered, daggers from all directions shot at me. I signed in return and used {Lightning Movement} to better position myself.

Alright. Let’s start.
