Epilogue - The death of Pæral Naitolos

While the life of Mr. Naitolos is full of intrigue, the circumstances around his death are also quite unique. As a 79-year-old, Mr. Naitolos was marching for peace alone in the street when suddenly, a truck headed his way rammed into him. That truck was driven by “an insane old man” (according to witnesses), and that man is Hyro, who ran away from the Naitolos household as a young boy. There are no records of where Hyro had been all these years, but when Naitolos evaded out of the way, Hyro backed up the truck and crushed Mr. Naitolos under the truck wheel. Mr. Naitolos was not dead, so Hyro kept putting the truck in reverse and then in forward to drive over Mr. Naitolos’s body repetitively. When Hyro saw Mr. Naitolos was still breathing, he got off the truck, held up a pistol, and pulled the trigger — “only to be met with the disappointment that the pistol was, in fact, a fake piece of iron.” Hyro then used that pistol and beat Mr. Naitolos’s face repeatedly until it was "devoid of all human features" and the blood on the concrete signal that he was no longer alive. After that, he took a barrel of gasoline off the truck and set Mr. Naitolos’s body on fire.

According to police interrogation reports, Hyro heard the “voice of God'' and had "the guidance of an angel." Hyro claimed that an angel told him that “Pæral was not a human, but an elf”, whose “parents wished to God that he will have ‘otherworldly wisdom’ so that he will be a good ‘king.” When the police asked him why he killed Pæral, instead of saying how “inhuman” Pæral is, Hyro told the police that killing him was his mission. He apparently “stabbed him Pæral with an invisible knife in the shape of a modern firearm” that inscribe a “marker on his soul that can reincarnate him three times'', and Hyro - in the verbatim of the report - then claimed that “Pæral will meet then God, and will be transferred to his own body in a whole different world with two more reincarnation charges on his soul. [a burst of small laughter] This could only happen if his soul is detached from his body.” Hyro, while detained, showed other signs of delusions and insanity, and was sent into an insane asylum. He experienced hallucinations, claimed that he heard the “voice of an angel”, being irrational, and having extreme mood swings. He reported that he ran away from home “on a whim,” and he “ended up in another world” with “magic” and supernatural phenomenon. He claimed that he “had magic,” but “they” (he refused to clarify who “they'' are) took away his ability to use magic. After three months of Hyro being admitted into an insane asylum, that insane asylum caught on fire, and Hyro escaped and was found even to this day. A witness reported a “ragged man in a straight jacket ran on the street while screaming on the top of his lung ‘I will go back’ at the sky.”

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

We suspect his delusions created a butterfly effect that spread the fantasy concept of elves and magic. Instead of elves being Christmas workers for Santa (a popular idea at the time), they are blond people with sharp ears entrenched in nature and age significantly slower than mankind. We hypothesize that Hyro’s “other world” is likely another country (probably a small nation), and his gibberish (as with the police report) is another language. That country must trade with metals only since Hyro paid “a lot of gold pieces” to make that invisible one-time-use dagger. Perhaps this is the origin of why the concept of the fictional race of elves is so deeply ingrained in modern culture these days.

In any case, Pæral Naitolos’s life provided us a good glimpse into the life of people back in the late 19th century and the early twentieth century. Yet there is one thing missing in the 79 years of his life that most people would have had. In his entire life, he remained maidenless in this world. Perhaps he would only get married in the next world.
